This video gives me chills and reminds me of the days I used to ride big (double overhead to me) waves. Much respect for these guys. They are riding way bigger waves then I have ever and it just takes a certain kind of person to do that. To me this is the most extreme sport ever. Hats off!
That moment when they are like "time to ditch the board" is so intense. BIG props to all the riders in this video -- risking your lives to get inside the biggest waves. Well done with this GoPro. Palms are sweating.
Jjhoop C I really hurt my arm after paddling to get over a wave when I new I was not going to make it then I got dunked and the strap that you put on your arm took me with it and really hurt my arm
WOW! as a surfer and knowing the feeling of getting caught inside with small to medium waves (4 to 10 foot), that first segment was freakin terrifying!! Could'nt begin to think about being in that position of having a high heart rate and paddling as hard as you can and watching the ocean stand up in a wall of 25 foot or bigger.....
I'm not a surfboader, but I do a bit of surfing in my white water kayaks. I had the privilege to see this action first hand in 2004,5? Can't remember exactly the date. But, to stand on the beach and feel the sand rumble under my feet. As those big 40+ footers exploded. And see those guys dropping in on those big faces. Crazy respect dudes. Amazing athletes.
Sheesh! Some rough comments. I thought your clip is awesome. That intro really captures that mixed feeling of panic and split second preparation when you get caught on the inside. Yeah I get that the fisheye makes the waves look small but we know they're not. The board cam shots of going over the falls and getting caught in the barrel are wicked - surely that gives the viewer an idea of the extremity involved. Danilo's bail at 5:09 - Shane's takeoff at 8:17 - awesome stuff. And the behind the scenes gear getting the footage broadcasted asap - loved it. Maybe this is one more for surfers and photogs. Well done guys!
HI_5 Riding the friction less water feels great; i've jet skied before and it is very much different from riding anything on the ground. Cant imagine for surfing.
To all you guys saying the camera makes the waves look tiny, get lost. If you had any idea how big these actually were you would not be complaining. This guys are risking their lives and you are just sitting there criticising.
they aren't only big they also make u go hella fast when u drop in I surf lil waves and even tho they are like 5 ft they still give me a huge push. Compare that to a 20ft waves those guys are going like over 15 mph also its cold AF there that's why they are wearing wetsuits (to keep them warm)
If you’ve never done this sport, please don’t dismiss this as a lot of “crazy bastard’s out there...”. It’s something that you’ve got to experience. It was once called “the sport of royalty” for a damn good reason. It’s certainly something that you can not convey to someone else. You’ve got to experience it to really appreciate it for what it is.
People who say these waves don't look that big must not surf. These are massive and scare the crap out of me. I have so much respect to all of these surfers.
Matheus...Make that dream become a reality...Thas what u did...I took me were I wanted to go...I still have a long way to go...Make it come true 💞 good luck
Matheus Andrade I don't know how old you are but the sport has become completely commercialized and packed with crowds of goons. You may think I'm just some you tube troll but get into the sport and maybe you will remember me years from now although if you haven't even got into it yet you have nothing to compare it to, I do.
The first thing I’m gonna drill when I get my first board (been riding rental foamies for ages now but considering getting a real board) is how to duck dive properly and effectively because I don’t want to get flattened by a wave even a third of that height when I’m paddling out. That looks wild
Thanks Gopro, I have always wanted to see what its like from the top of Mavericks and that scary feeling of being screwed with the wave heading straight for you XD
as a surfer, the intro speaks to me on a spiritual level
@hahagotcha!!!! yeah it does, got an issue with it? punk? thats what i thought noob.
@hahagotcha!!!! booooo we hate this guy!!!! like if u agre!!!
The water hitting my face is 😅😇
Mason Theurer k bud if u need some atention just say it

I remember hearing a story my dad told me about one of the first guys to surf mavericks and that he had to paddle out for 2 hours to reach the break
Peter Mel.
Yeah Jeff Clark pretty much surf it by himself for nearly 2 decades before the world clicked
I believe it Greg Noll said the same thing about the first paddle in to a big Waimea break in the 60s
@@JamesGarbutt33 yep

I agree 100%
Hold downs and destruction vary depending on location. A double overhead at your spot may very well be worse than Mavericks hold down wise
Unbelievable. The stamina these guys must have to fight waves like these...
The waves will always win in the end
The intro to the video is just EPIC.
It brings out my worst memories when I was out there.
Hey
Jimmy Naraine i
But why doesn’t he just duckdive or turtle roll?
Jimmy Naraine Como vai ! Da uma olhada nos meus vídeos tb, vc vai curtir! abraço!

Tru LEGEND
Paikea Kehlani he was only 15 years old when he surfed it
I hate that feeling when your paddling towards a big wave and you know your not gonna make it
Same bro I thought that was only me
Jjhoop C I really hurt my arm after paddling to get over a wave when I new I was not going to make it then I got dunked and the strap that you put on your arm took me with it and really hurt my arm
(@Montagie ‘ ) I’m pretty sure when surfing the strap goes around your ankle.
@@asmodeus304 I do get my leg rope wrapped around body limbs at times and pulled.
U are so close but yet so far

Jeff Hartwig I know exactly what you mean. N some of them waves r u like 40 plus foot
I mean it does depend on spot. Not all big waves are the exact scale up youd think it would be.
Amazing opening. Looks so tiring and dangerous getting past those gigantic waves. Great vid. Really shows the awesome power of the ocean.
And the agility of those surfers too! Amazing.
This is totally amazing! So awesome to see big wave riders and Mavericks up close and how hardcore the drops and tumbles are!
so sick ! amazing teamwork gopro and nice drop from shane at the end

Nice review. Your words are perfect reflection to what i watched this morning. You cool!
This is the best surf video i have seen in a while...
Titans of Mavericks is the most fitting name ever for an event. Anyone that even surfs Mavericks is a titan in my book
Surfing is the BEST sport in the world !

Dorians drop at 8:17 was the best clip no doubt. Like dropping in on a 30 foot vert ramp....straight down for days
The balls and skill it takes to do this is off the charts!
0:34 thats the scariest sh*t i’ve ever seen on a pov surfboard
Yup
This video is just magic!

Omg I didn't notice that!!
Amazing footage.
I'm excited by how cameras like the GoPro are making onboard camera possible especially for a televised event.
...show me the money!
Actual legends
the wave at 2:00, how long do you think you would have to hold you're breath for? if u crashed? look's crazy
This is great, I am going to get a Gopro soon!
Why would a nerd get one... To show off Pokémon cards?
Um, I am not a nerd and I don't even have Pokémon cards, I don't even understand your comment...
just cuz you buy a gopro, your not gonna be a pro surfer you have to learn, go pros arent magic, theyre cameras
I hope you get some good footage
the intro is so cool!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
These guys are so brave
Woah, that was a quick hustle to the tent!
the intro really captures the power of the white water
wow.. amazing.. as well.. visit Uluwatu Bali Indonesia... great stuff as well
At 1:28, what is going on there? Is that oxygen for when they are dragged at the bottom of a set of waves?
Omg this is amazing 😍😍😍😍
Amazing footage! If they could somehow transmit the gopro footage live to the broadcast it would be unreal
Love that shot at 4:01
Some of the footage they get when they jump off their boards to go under is lit
I don't surf, but these vids are sick!
People who say these waves don't look that big must not surf. These are massive and scare the crap out of me. I have so much respect to all of these surfers.
7:46 YO THAT TRANSITION WAS SMOOTH AF
mavericks are the BIG BOYS
The transitions to surfer to surfer though

awsome video bro's
The board getting sucked over the falls at 4:00 was cooler footage than any of the waves being surfed
Chasing Mavericks was a sweet movie.

About one minute worth watching.
4:00 so sick!!!
The amount of force on your body if you got pushed down... wow....just wow
Thanks Gopro, I have always wanted to see what its like from the top of Mavericks and that scary feeling of being screwed with the wave heading straight for you XD
surely I'm not the only one that thought the waves were small from their P.O.V
TOTALLY CORRECT..BOGUS CAMERA ANGLE...POOR VIDEO..WEAK
Gopros and most POV views always make waves look smaller
Yeah it’s because of the type of lens that gopros use
Crazy folks
amazing
love it live it.
, lived and worked there for 12 years very cool place
Amazing
Next Video will be "GoPro: Yosemite 2015".
SadGriefer anybody know how to make the sound at 35 seconds
SadGriefer I dont get it
+reecemladjov Just automated white noise with some kind of uplifter or reversed 808 or something.
+SadGriefer Make sense that Mountain Lion never made it to RUclips - probably got eaten haha
but wtf as a yosemite to do with mavericks...
Nice Video.
They're having the time of their lives 😎😎😎
