Congratulations to Jamie O'Brien for his $20,000 GoPro of the Winter winning clip.
The GoPro of the Winter video competition asked surfers to submit their best GoPro surf footage from the North Shore. Judges Taylor Steele, Mike Prickett and Pete Hodgson selected this winning GoPro video based on cinematography, degree of difficulty of shooting, perspective, overall beauty and lighting.

It is a really fun sport and I think everyone should try it. I recently got into it and love it so much. You have to understand that takes a solid 10 years to do though.

I never used to like watching surfing, the stuff they showed on tv in the early 2000's was filmed from the beach and to me looked quite dull. This on the other hand is unreal! Thanks GoPro, I'm having my first surfing lessons this summer and I know I will not be anywhere near this good, but this video will be my inspiration to keep at it!

Surfing since '67. These are by far THE best tube shots since life emerged from the ooze and checked the surf report.
Riding the barrel is one of the more satisfying sensations/views in my life. Never thought I'd be able to see the views on film...modern technology rocks sometimes.
How long it takes for a newbie to reach that level..
@@ravirajgardi6077 For big waves a very long time. To get a nice tube ride it just depends on dedication and coordination and learning. But it really takes years. Think how log it takes to be a black belt. It takes awhile. BUT once you get one, just one, it gets easier and it never gets old.

@@ravirajgardi6077 How long you need surding? Where if you don't mind my asking? I had a sweet GF once. Finally after about two years I took her to a nice spot near Santa Cruz, only ones around and pushed and paddled her in to a few waves and finally she got on, balanced, pulled in, and ran a tube all the way through. She came out screaming, eyes as big as flying saucers and was in seventh heave for a week. For her, it was two years to get real stand up tube ride.

I live far away from costal area.. rarely gets chance to surf.. i have surfed few times with my uncle but it was casual. On paddle waves where water wasn't that deep.

Me being from the Midwest I know the chances of me doing this are slim to none but I’ve always wanted to learn how to surf. The feeling of riding a wave has always interested me. But these videos are so breathtaking and beautiful

Go for it then mate, I've been surfing for a few years but only in summer. Now that ive bought my own board I'm surfing every weekend, you just feel weightless and it's a magical feeling, I highly recommend it.
Careful though man if you’ve never surfed before. It takes experience to be able to surf waves like these, one wrong move and the wave will smash you against a reef

One thing I failed to do, is to ride big waves! I was an avid skater in the 70's and 80's, followed the likes of Tony Alva., Stacy Perelta, even went to Haleiwa Beach when I was a teen, But Never Surfed! My Big Dream, is to surf Huge Waves, with No Fear! It's ok, Because Eternity will be One Endless Wave, for me. Peace! p.s. This was the Most Awesome Video I have seen in a while! Thanks! Mahalo!
