- The styling was conservative...K T. Keller saw to that....supposedly they were going to have a lower roofline, but as boss, K.T. wanted the male driver to be able to enter the car with his hat on. He was not from the styling department, but dictated style nonetheless. So sales were not good, people were looking for something dashing and stylish, not necessarily practical.

Big horns - at that time the sound of horns sound great. Roomy interior and the rear seat passengers were treated like royalty. Red wheels with wheel covers and white walls were a sign the owner really loved his ride.I've driven lots of cars, but never one with Fluid Drive. Nicely presented. :)

Bought for 50.00 bucks in 1961 with tree growing in engine compartment …
Body shop said if I could get it started I could have it for 40 bucks !!!
I got it started … “ SLUSHY O MATIC” used all the time .. car ran great and indestructible!!!!

Thanks for showing this. Very nice car. Chrysler sold quite well in the late 40's and
through the 50's. I've examined many old photos and archival films of my city in the early to mid '50's, and most of the taxis were Plymouth or Dodge (with a few Chryslers for the VIP's). I'm guessing they would have been 1st choice because of the ample leg room/head clearance and trunk size.
So true...DeSoto had the edge quite early...but Plymouth and Dodge became popular too. DeSoto and Dodge would have been popular because of their semi-automatic transmission that didn't require constant shifting in heavy traffic....plus the commodious interior as you point out! Thanks! :) Jack
LOVE THIS! My FIRST car (dad bought it for "parts" for our '50 DeSoto (75% SAME)! He DID NOT "have heart" to "kill" a car that (sorta) "ran"! So, as my "birthday present", I OWNED it! It was BEATEN (ugly, sorta), but I LOVED this $15 GEM!

You said that these Dodge's didn't sell too well, but, if I remember correctly, I believe the '51 and '52 models sold 350,000 units.
Too bad most of the 1951 and 1952 Dodge's met the crusher. They have to be my favorite automobile design.

Hey Jack. Lovely looking car. I like the "conservative" appearance of this generation Mopar cars. I love the interior. The cupholders look like they came with the car, even though it didn't. Very nice. I don't wear that many hats, but I do like being able to get into the car without having to bend my head forward when I do. :)

Jack R I agree. That's why I like cars built pre-1954. And in particular, with Chrysler cars. They may not be flashy or stylish, but I don't mind. I'm more interested in functional purpose than just flashy style. :)

Hey, James! My guess is that a four door sedan of this year is not much in demand....Hemmings Motor News would be a good source of information. A lot depends on condition and mileage. A clean low mileage car probably shouldn't be more than $5000, my guess. Thanks! :) Jack
