    HISTORY OF HALLOWEEN
Halloween comes from the a shortening of "All Hallowed Eve", which is a holiday the Catholic church placed on October 31 to replace the pagan holiday of Samhain. Samhain was originally celebrated by the Gaelic people in the British Isles.
Samhain did not begin as a celebration of death, but as a way to commemorate the end of summer and the beginning of winter. The common belief was that the veil between the supernatural world and the physical world was weakened on this night. They believed spirits were free to roam the earth on this night. As a result many rituals developed as a way of warding off evil spirits.
The festival evolved over time and began to include a time of remembering dead family members. Wiccans still celebrate Samhain to this day, although it does not involve dressing in costumes or trick or treating.
In Christian tradition, All Hallowed Eve became a time to honor dead saints and martyrs. Many of the pagan rituals and traditions continued, but lost their meaning.
    THREE COMMON RESPONSES
    1) Some people say that Christians should not celebrate halloween.
    2) The majority of Christians celebrate halloween, but within boundaries.
    3) Other Christians see halloween as an opportunity to engage their communities and evangelize.
At the end of the video, we share what we chose to do about halloween.
