Oooof that ending sounds brutal-I’m not too interested in this series, but now I know to just treat Lonesome Dove like a standalone if I ever do get the urge to pick it up

Yeah if you fall in love with the characters keep going, but just plan on the first for now.

Thanks for the stellar review! Lonesome Dove being my favorite book, that I cherish so much, has actually kept me from reading the other novels. I just didn’t want the book I love soooo much to be tarnished in any way. That being said…I have recently thought about reading the other books in the series because I do miss the characters. Thank you for your insight and time, I have now decided to just re-read the original anytime I miss the Captain or Gus. I look forward to more reviews! By the way…did you try Comanche Moon?

Comanche Moon shares the same problem in my opinion. The most interesting character has a big role in the first half and is absent in the second half.
