  • Paul and Barnabas had a specific format to their missionary work: they preached first to the Jews and then to the Gentiles. In this message, we examine Paul's first recorded sermon and the response it received. We learn the importance of being anchored in Scripture and centered on God's promises when sharing the gospel with others.
This teaching is from our series 44 Acts - 2017 with Skip Heitzig from Calvary Church.

Thank you for doing this Bible study pastor Skip. i am actually using your material for our bible study. i was lead to a different brother at 1st but halfway through Acts 12, God put this heaviness in my heart that i stopped listening to him and started researching if what he is teaching is true, and i asked the Lord to lead me to a true preacher, not a false teacher. And i was brought to your channel. I have a peace and joy listening to your teaching. God bless you more with wisdom.

I find the convictions of Paul through Jesus Christ our King so inspiring. I proves that despite whatever religious affiliation one might belong too, whether it be Muslim, Judaism, Hindi or the like one can be converted by the grace of God to an everlasting hope. I thank the one bold enough to preach the truth to me (and to you), and I pray that we all witness to this generation.

I feel bad for the person who clapped. I hope Pastor Skip didn’t embarrass that person by pointing him or her out.

Thank you Skip. You are correct: It is rare to hear the pure Word of God, without having to endure the speaker’s continued rabbit chasing. We appreciate your preparation and clear delivery of the Word. This always comes through. It reaches deep and is powerful. God bless you more and more.

Thank you, Pastor Skip, looking forward to following your Bible Teaching Ministry.
The description “apostles” is given as a lower case “a”, when describing one’s on a missionary journey. But when the upper case is used “Apostle of Jesus Christ” or “Apostle Paul/ Peter/ James/ …” that is for the NT Office, strict sense. The 12 plus Paul, are set apart in the strict sense. The qualifications for an upper case “Apostle” is given, as you referenced, in the beginning of Acts. Acts 1:21-22 v21 A male V22 From the beginning of The Lords Earthly Ministry until His ascension
Matt 28:16-20 11 Apostles/Judas Iscariot had committed suicide, so there was a vacancy but Peter and the other 10 knowing the OT prophecy look for two candidates among the Church. But only GOD, appoints/calls Apostles. The “lot” fell to Matthias, like Bingo, you put the numbers in a cistern and what falls out is the “lot”. Not by man’s hands or choosing but GOD Sovereignly chooses (Like He chooses all His Gospel Ministers; By His grace He called Paul. I don’t advocate Sovereign election/choosing in Salvation. Jacob was sovereignly chosen but that did t exclude Esau from Salvation)
“Paul, an Apostle of Jesus Christ” Paul was taken straight away to the Arabian desert and conferred neither with flesh nor blood by the span of three years Gal. 1:15-18 Jesus gave Paul the same authority as the other 12. Look to 2nd Peter (Apostle) 3:15-16 Peter, writing to Christians, acknowledges Paul’s authority in The Lord.
    There were 13.
    Humbly submitted for edification.
