This modest video was a battle to produce, as I have moved into my new house, which is still being renovated around me, so broadband connections and dust-free rooms to put computers in have been lacking over the last three months. My intro and outro were edited on a small laptop and uploaded in a friend's house, using her broadband, for which many thanks - especially as she had to put up with my curses as I battled with Final Cut Pro on a small screen. This, my loyal and patient viewers, is why you have not seen any videos from me recently. But footage has actually been filmed, even if you have not seen it yet, so when everything settles down, you will be able to see what I have been doing recently.
Same here. I was cursing Roger as now I'm longing for great fish and chips. Which is something hard to find here in Vancouver Canada. Despite being an ocean Port, most places are now owned by East Indians and they really don't seem to have a passion for it.
That's a fabulous tour. French towns always remind me that local economies and community can thrive so long as you keep big business away. And everything that matters revolves around food😋
Ah poisson-frites en Bretagne quelle merveille! Un jour si le bon Dieu m’épargne j’irai à Douarnenez. Merci pour le vidéo Monsieur Barnes. C’était, comme toujours, excellent!
Thank you for sharing another great video. And you needn’t worry about us. When everything settles down for you we’ll still be here. Wouldn’t miss it for anything.
Thank you, Roger. The Secrets Of Douarnenez is surely a classic, narrated by the great Roger Barnes. He knows the intimate, precise parts of his town, and shares them with love. Thanks again…from an old vet, retired in the US, hills of east Tennessee.
Took me a good twenty years before I stopped missing English pubs here in Australia. No doubt it's been good for my health, but the fish and chip shop and the pub at the end of the street are truly unique features of England.
Roger i have followed you for a long time don't often comment just enjoy.i can't help but see how life there in France is most agreeable for you it seems to have even made you look younger and obviously happier. Throughly enjoyed this trip around your adopted home. Lookung forward to seeing more of the same over the winter months and then returning to sailing in mire agreeable weather.
Great. Both of the wee restaurants in my village down here in the Pyrenees have had a bottle of Sarsons Malt vinegar available on request for getting on for twenty years since my father kicked up a fuss. For me Marmite is one of the last quintessential British tastes I cling to. Branston along with BBC radio have long since been ditched.
...and oh wow - imagine my surprise when one of the secrets of Douarnenez is: It harbours the 'Hydrograaf'! (1:18) With which I had many encounters when I lived and floated in and near Muiden - Holland. This vessel has quite a history and still plays a controversial role in contemporary Dutch culture. Cheers and thanks for taking part in this fine production. And of course sharing it.
What a wonderful place to live. Watching this at 8.00am and could eat the fish chips now! Definitely need the salt & vinegar but the beer is a great Fench addition. The pudding/cake looks lively too A great video for French tourism. Thank you.
Thank you Roger, what a great short introduction and tour of the town. I think we're all getting the message that you are very much falling in love with your new home. That is simply wonderful. And the pastry? OMG!! Looking forward to whatever you produce next. Take care and Happy Days.🌞
Nice video Roger. One could argue that the perfect "Fish & Chips" is indeed served with a beer!! No chance of that in the UK!! You talk about missing food in the UK, however after 2 summer trips to Bretange the past 2 years I really miss those buttery pastries!!! Especially the Koign Amman!!!
14:46 Great video Roger! as always, but I think maybe one bottle of malt vinegar may not be enough if our French friends learn to enjoy it as much as we do! One bottle would probably last me 5 or 6 meals. I love it ! I'm watching from Thailand where both fish and chips and malt vinegar are very hard to find! Missing France too... Thank you
What a brilliant little film. Thanks Roger. Life looks idyllic and very authenticly french. A slower pace of life compared to here in the UK. Congratulations on introducing the french fish and chip shop to malt vinegar! I feel we should now introduce the selling of beer in uk fish and chip shops! You can get one in Rockfish, a posh fish restaurant, there's one in poole, Salcombe, Dartmouth and the like, I've not been in one yet!
It’s nice to see that you, unlike so many of the (un)famous British Expats, learned the language of the country you moved to. It seems to be improved a lot too.
Thanks - I love watching your videos. Your life is so much different than anything we have here in British Columbia - well except we do have water and boats. Looking forward to your next instalment.
I came across the town this autumn on a tour of Brittany. I will definitely be returning for a longer stay based in that area next year. Thanks for sharing your knowledge of the town.
This is great. Know very little about this par of France, so these videos, are very informative. Fish and Chips locally and all the other attractions. Perfect.
As an OCH subscriber, I watched this a couple of Sundays ago. Now I’ve watched again and I must say, your theme music turned your 10 score up to 11. Simply charming! Not only will I repeat the performance, I’ll also visit your village in the future and feast on fish and chips and that buttery marvel you so generously shared with Steve.
A wonderful slice of your adopted town. I'm thinking to travel there (from Vancouver). The small towns, strong connection to older days is enticing. Thank you.
Wonderful tour of the town. We were there in late May/early June and also enjoyed a fish and chip lunch by the port from the same small shop and it was delightful!
Another fine video Rodger.Interestingly the Portuguese also have those communual washing places and I have seen them still being used here in central Portugal. In fact there is one about 150 meters from my own house.
Scrumptious videography and lovely detailed and informative content! I could watch programming like this, with some sailing and sailboat builders/owners laced within, all day!
Thank you for the time and effort it must have taken to make this video. It’s a beautiful little town and now my wife and i will try and visit the town.
Roger, you are a natural narrator. I think your next career is being a travel show host. Maybe for the next episode come over to Port Townsend during their wooden boat festival and do a tour of the town and the wooden boat festival.

Superb as always Roger, thank you
Big thanks to You! I waited impatiently for the next movie and it is so interesting and full of special charm ❤
Can't wait to see the footage you mentioned. This was sublime as usual. Thank you!
No rush, Roger, no rush.
lovely content, wonderful human....good luck finishing your place.
The fish and chips part made me instantly hungry.
Same here. I was cursing Roger as now I'm longing for great fish and chips. Which is something hard to find here in Vancouver Canada. Despite being an ocean Port, most places are now owned by East Indians and they really don't seem to have a passion for it.
Was it proper chip's or French fries.
That's a fabulous tour. French towns always remind me that local economies and community can thrive so long as you keep big business away. And everything that matters revolves around food😋
That was simply delightful to watch.
Fabulously narrated Roger, and delivered in a very relaxed style.
Thank you.
So glad to see you again, Roger!
Thank you for uploading again!

Very enjoyable Roger I love your videos John Brackenbury
It's good to hear from you again. I find that a wide metal paint scraper works best when cutting deserts.
HAHA!!! Cutting the Kougin Amann with a carpentry square. I love it. *Thank you* Roger and OCH. Well done.

Great to see you again Roger what a beautiful video. Dournanez is on my wishlist for my next trip to France. Hope your renovations are going well.
Thank you from a guy living in this beautiful city since 2 years now !
I could live in the Bistro with family above. What a good idea.
Entertaining and new type of video.
Thank you Roger, what a great short introduction and tour of the town. I think we're all getting the message that you are very much falling in love with your new home. That is simply wonderful. And the pastry? OMG!!

Is there anything better on the internet than a Roger Barnes video? In my opinion not!
Nice to see a glimpse of your hometown.
Keep filming Roger - your videos are wonderful

Great video. Would love to visit someday. Also love your closing song.
What a great video. I've watched quite a back catalogue of your videos.
Wonderful tour of the town. We were there in late May/early June and also enjoyed a fish and chip lunch by the port from the same small shop and it was delightful!
A new Roger Barnes production is a cue to sit down and relax for its duration ^_^
That was charming Roger. A beautiful town with so much character and history. Many thanks.
I don't sail, but I really enjoy watching your channel Roger.
The town you live in looks like somewhere I could easily live as well.
As always Mr Barnes, this little video was excellent!
Another fine video Rodger.Interestingly the Portuguese also have those communual washing places and I have seen them still being used here in central Portugal. In fact there is one about 150 meters from my own house.

God you live in a beautiful place Roger!, lovely to hear from you again. Best wishes. Gérard.
Really lovely Rodger! - i enjoyed racing Spi Ouest and rambling around there a few years ago
As a kid I liked watching Julia Child. Butter was her main cooking ingredient. Lovely tour, cheers from Chicago.
Roger, you are a natural narrator. I think your next career is being a travel show host. Maybe for the next episode come over to Port Townsend during their wooden boat festival and do a tour of the town and the wooden boat festival.
Love all your videos they are so entertaining and refreshing.
This was really great, Roger!
