me! a video of Scatman popped up in my feed in FB of them live overseas and they were jammin! I was hooked immediately and went down the rabbit hole. I absolutely love watching him play. What a master indeed. I love that it is 30 damn years later and I am finding this!!
Before today I only knew him from his songs and videos for "Scatman" and "Scatman's World." After diving deeper into his history and musical work it's been a profound experience to find out how much more there was to this man beyond the pop persona I saw when I was a kid. This man is a diamond.
As Scatman used to say "Things you call dead, haven't yet had the chance to be born." There's so much that people don't know about Scatman John. And they are still discovering that them to this very day.
21:10 imagine sitting in the audience, perhaps smiling about that rap and the story behind it, not knowing that it would become such a big hit a few months later
I remember thinking for years this guy was just some novelty act from "Scatman" only to find out my grandfather had actually heard this guy perform in a jazz bar/club in LA back in the mid-70's. Amazing that it wasn't until he stepped back from the piano that he became world famous.
Amazing. Scatman. He put out one of (if not the) most uplifting albums of all time, at least since I've been a fan of pop music going back to 1963. Then he was gone!
What a finding!! I found it suddenly after searching about some other artists on Wikipedia, and i didn't know he was a pianist! My God, that's awesome! What a show!
Guerrero!!
During this time John probably liked to keep his concentration to the music so the audience was acting respectful compared to when he sung a song like scatman live
Who listening to this masterpiece in 2024? Love u scatman, I send a skip-ba-dop-du-bi-ba-dop to the heaven!

I really miss you bud, you were awesome ! (Proud to be the Producer of your album back in 1983 !)

Larkin!

I feel the same today... Amazing guy!
Ooooooh WOW! I'm the next one in the row who had no idea what a brilliant jazzman he was. What an eye-opener. Fantastic!
Damn dude. I've only just today learned he was a tremendously accomplished musician. And I have a whole ass music degree...rest in power, Scat Master.

this is the most amazing thing I've seen in more than a decade on the internet
I will never forget when John said to me: Sometimes the most precious things are those we do not see.
This was wonderful to see, this is a true rarity among his career
See you in Scatland, John! You're always in my heart!

1:05:00 "'S Wonderful"
Improvisation of Scatman (Ski-Ba-Bop-Ba-Dop-Bop) is actually a song called "The Misfit" that John performed for his EP called John Larkin.
It's The Misfits not Scatman (Ski-Ba-Bop-Ba-Dop-Bop)
Why was he improv his song? I didn’t get it
@@novustalks7525 he didn't improvise. He just performed his jazz song "The Misfit" that was used as a base for "Scatman (Ski-Ba-Bop-Ba-Dop-Bop)".
The bass has a electric bass like tone. Astonishing, perfect timbre, incredible sustain. Mildly mellowed. I love the staccatos.
Amazing. Scatman. He put out one of (if not the) most uplifting albums of all time, at least since I've been a fan of pop music going back to 1963. Then he was gone!
what are some other good uplifting albums? been riding that scatman's world high for long and looking to expand

He's playing Erroll Garner at 46:26 - he was a super talented guy.
Thank you, John!
Very good, that's amazing 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Scatman John you are the most beautiful human being to have ever walked this earth. Rest in scat
This was about a month before he released his Eurodance single "Scatman".
A legend ❤️
Sheer genius all the way through.
Here's a really good one - 44:10. He's matching Erroll Garner here at 46:26. He was a great musician and entertainer and died too young.
59:38 - Scat Solo
Golden 🙏❤️

24:00 The Best of the best! Sorry, my Englisch is very bad.
My heart
this is pure.
Blues artist first, scatman second.
I liked "Four". Well done all around. Such a stoic crowd though.
During this time John probably liked to keep his concentration to the music so the audience was acting respectful compared to when he sung a song like scatman live
15:20 sounds so sad
