- Mikhail Silberman and Paulina Dov are migrants from the former Soviet Union who repatriated to Israel in the late 1980s and early 1990s. They met while already Israel, started a family, and had a daughter named Rachel. On October 7th 2023, Rachel, her boyfriend, and a friend of theirs from Chicago drove over to the Supernova music festival in Kibbutz Re’im. The same day Mikhail got a text from Rachel saying that there is shooting and explosions all around her. In an exclusive interview to TV Rain, Rachel's parents shared the whole story of how they heard of the Hamas attacka and how they tried to rescue their daughter.

I saw the picture of Rachel in the car. It was one of the many images that stayed with me. I saw my own daughter that morning, it changes your world view and what’s precious to you. Only now do I get to hear the story. Her parents are “lions”, coping with what humans can endure. This was so terribly moving. Nothing could stop her parents coming for her. It will stay with me and many others for the rest of our lifetime. A beautiful girl lost to us all. Long life. 😢

Hamas and the Israeli government are the worst terrorists, both. Feeling for these parents, it's utterly heartbreaking for me. Over a thousand human beings killed and their loved ones shattered, and now it's over ten thousand. Ordinary people suffer, while the leaders on both sides spread the worst lies and hatred, with no longterm solutions, just decades of revenge and manipulation.
One person trying to bring peace for everyone is Dr Izzeldin Abuelaish - he had 3 daughters and a niece killed by a tank shell in 2009, and now lost so many more family members...but he refuses to hate, and is passionate about doing good for Israelis and Palestinians equally, saving lives wherever he can. All fellow experiencers of this life, caught in the "crossfire".

He was blown up by a suicide bomber on a Jerusalem bus in 2002. His family donated his organs before they turned off his life support system. One of his kidneys was donated to a little Palestinian girl who was so sick she would have died without it. So a suicide bomber blew up a young Jewish boy from UK who went on to save the life of a Palestinian child. Sounds like a fairytale but it actually happened. From that day on his mother Marsha Gladstone became an active peace campaigner. She has been trying to build bridges between Jews and Arabs ever since and regularly tours the world giving talks.

The most shocking thing about this is the way Hamas predicted that they would evoke sympathy from the world, completely pivoting to ignore the facts of this massacre. Hamas predicted that they would incur tens of thousands of Palestinian casualties, and they are happy with that. They know that news media like Al Jazeera will completely ignore the ongoing hostages, never mentioning them for days on end. Hamas have also clearly stated, last week, that they intend to do this kind of massacre again and again, until Israel is wiped off the face of the earth. How do you negotiate with that? What choice does Israel have? Any country would retaliate, and any country would continue attacks until the enemy is eliminated and until all hostages are safe or confirmed dead. It's a common sentiment that Hamas is not Palestine, but street surveys in August showed broad support for Hamas, and surprisingly broad support for violence. Israel did not start this war, but they are obliged to finish it with every effort to keep Israel safe. Once Palestinian leaders acknowledge Israel's right to exist, then negotiations can begin.
Sadly, I doubt that Hamas would ever agree to "recognize" the State of Israel, and as for the "innocent civilians", they might pretend to want peace in order to let things quieten down some, but I have little doubt their true feelings aren't gonna change anytime soon. Is it just brain washing by the Hamas education system and therefore with a normal curriculum could the hatred and refusal to accept Israeli's right to be there be nullified? I dunno, I hope so, but I just don't know!!!
