Kelly Slater Surfing Jeffreys Bay 16mm Film

Young Kelly Slater on his Al Merrick Channel Islands Surfboard. Kelly did his own “Girl Art” on those narrow, thin, heavy rockered boards that only he could rip on. Was it a plan? Honestly, those boards may have helped Kelly, but at the same time, they may have set back surfing a decade- average surfers were missing waves or just plain bogging out on the too-thin potato chips. But we digress…. and don't really know, just wanting to see what others think.
Nonetheless, those CI's worked for Kelly and sent him on route to 11 World Titles. He is still pushing surfboard design to the limits and pushing the boundaries of wave riding performance. Respect. Legendary life and still going strong.
