You have to practice this everyday. It's originally a Greek term that was used to achieve mental stillness, ataraxia. Ataraxia was important for eudaimonia, happiness. Once you are able to stop judging every internal and external stimuli, your mind becomes still, you are mindful. In philosophical terms, you go from duality to nonduality. Once you judge, you are limiting yourself in so many ways. We even judge ourselves. There is nothing to judge, things just are. After a while you get a greater interception. You are more aware of what's happening inside of you. this leads to the awareness of 'states'. We all have different states during the day that are influencing our thoughts, emotions and actions. For example, if you are tired, you're acting sluggish and grumpy. Once we understand that it is our state that is influencing our behavior, we are going to adjust our lifestyle. Sleep better, eat better etc, hang out with chill people, take walks. Find balance and keep practicing.
We life our lives judging the hell out of ourselves and others, it never stops. These judgements, 9 of of 10 never have resulted in anything fruitful, never ever. We could easily live without them. What's more, we would be much happier. Realizing this is the key. You have to decide if you want to go through live from now on judging everything and anyone. Just say, thanks I'll pass

We are unable to perceive the current moment entirely. We are limited by space. For example, we didn't start broadcasting RF on this planet until a bit over a century ago. We therefore have done nothing that reaches beyond a sphere the size of 100 light-years, in a universe that would consider such a puny distance to be less than a dust particle. The light we are receiving from distant galaxies is often millions or billions of years old. We can perceive nothing around us in real time, beyond this tiny little bubble where we live. Individually we are limited by a far smaller sized bubble of perception.
We are limited by our ability to see. Our eyes can only detect a tiny fraction of the electromagnetic spectrum that is hitting our bodies every second. We are effectively blind to most of the energy around us that is radiating through space. Not only that but the method our eyes use to see is built primarily on feedback from the brain. Data travels to the brain, which is fairly low resolution and the brain feeds back the details. We learn to see, by building a database in our brains that we can then use for pattern recognition. Our sense of smell, our ability to hear, our sense of touch and that of taste, are all dependent to one degree or another upon our past experience. We have all had the experience of seeing someone in a room or walking towards us and then suddenly we recognize the person, and the details are filled in immediately. The way we see this person after recognition is radically different that before.
A number of years ago, my wife and I were at some friends house and there was a gathering there for Thanksgiving Day. Well, some guys came in and sat on the couch and both my wife and I failed to recognize our son in that group at first. We didn't see him. Everyone got a laugh out of that, including us, but the fact is, we knew our son was thousands of miles away in New York and not where we were. He was in the Navy and he got leave to come home for a visit and didn't warn us. But what was interesting to me was the fact that he was suddenly our son, with all his normal characteristics, only after we recognized he was there. It was a very odd feeling.
What is amazing is not that we have to use our biases and past experience to form a feeling of firmness, and sanity in the moment, or an apparent control, but that we can do it at all in this universe where we really have no perception of the totality of reality. We are a spec trying to understand a planet. If you don't rely on the analogy or metaphor of reality that your brain creates for you, you will be lost in the dark with no way to understand things at all. Reality is too big, too complex, and too unknowable to get a true and full picture of it. We have to settle for what we can do, and be glad that we can do it.

Wonderful ! I searched for lectures on Husserl and found this, I never considered his method of epoche (bracketing) as a basis for self improvement. Very neat topic ! I will say, once you learn the epoche, you will never see the same way 🕊️ Good luck !

I have not heard of the term bracketing before, so this was so interesting. I think you are saying that bracketing is putting aside initial thoughts/bias and then to go with the flow and see what really is happening? To be truly open minded?
Going off tangents, I really liked that you took the time to film outside. Psychologists who research happiness, state that enjoying the moment and taking the time to appreciate things, makes people happier. You really did find the perfect location to film. The grass, the flowers, the trees, the sky. To hear the birds sing and even seen flying (at 07:00 of this video).
I certainly enjoyed this video. It was awesome. Thanks!

Right direction but wrong practice. if this philosophical, intellectual description resonates with you because phenomenology is definitely the right direction you might want to investigate the centuries old Buddhists (anatta) teachings and Advaita Vedanta's Atma Vichara (self investigation) practices. You'll want to explore "witnessing practices" like the ones Greg Good talks about or any of the Direct Path teachings.

Ages ago now I just drew a graph - using a logarithmic scale - of the smallest to the largest. Meaning I was basically able to capture the whole scale of the visible universe on an A4 sheet of paper essentially - from the tiny atomic particles with low entropy that move very slowly but oscillate at a high frequency, up to huge galaxies (and beyond) with very high entropy that move very quickly through space but have a very long period of rotation. And in the middle of the page was us human beings - around a couple of metres in size, giving off heat and able to move around to a limited degree. Much later I got into Heidegger and basically applied his concept of temporality to the above picture I described - so we aren't subatomic particle flashing in and out of existence, or infinite universe.. we are human beings with limited scale of years we can be around for, and things we can physically do and extend ourselves into the world. Heidegger focused on langauge I think for his existentialism (no I am not an expert on Heidegger xP) - but langauge itself is kind of at the middle scale in the cosmos, and in that way I think we can connect in a genuine way with our existence by understanding the physical location of langauge (as it can't really exist at any other scale of complexity - entropy - and still be described as langauge)... And I guess in a sense, langauge falls outside of our current understanding of the laws of physics as the being of things at an atomic scale doesn't fit with Eintein's view of time at a larger scale. But what do I know? Cheers!

Perhaps control creates discomfort within itself for control is that that is predetermined programming and is unable to cope with the unexpected. It’s part of setting one’s autopilot thus one is operating as though one is asleep.
When one conforms to a system of control , whether it be with self or a group, one is filtering observations to suit a predefined outcome or to re-enforce one’s current reality. Therefore it is most often intuitive people though-out history who go against popular thinking and thus discover new wonders and creations that astonish main-steam thinking though-out our history.

Breaking out of ‘tribal’ thinking where the need to belong over-rides the freedom of open perception. Perception is filtered to the reality of the group as a survival or comfort necessity.

Push through to the next level Transcending the observer (self consciousness)to becoming the observer of the observer. The persona changes to that of wisdom and knowing.

Can one force oneself towards that kind of understanding of the world and how and why? What would push someone to do that? Or is it just a natural progression of one's development throughout one's life?

@@yeghor Thank you for your reply. You appear to identify also as an INFJ.
My thoughts in order to give reply are: The best way to put a ‘dart’ thrower off target is to get the other to think of his/her control of their body motion while throwing the dart at the target.
It is not about force or ‘control’ for control is about the conscious ‘false self’. It is more about freeing the holistic nature of the sub-conscious ‘true self’ and observing it. To free the mind is to free the effort.
You speak of ‘the ego’ and such, whether inflated or deflated, is the false self, the persona, the mask, the method actor that for most people it is operating as a primal protective function that has a need to be right and is thus reactive. However one comes to understand that there is no absolute right or absolute wrong because creation is well beyond the frequencies of colour. Truth therefore is a general term and a matter of opinion.

We change others interactions with us by how we perceive ourselves. People who project their emotions onto others or who are needy lack some kind of completeness or wholeness within themselves and thus seek these missing parts from others. To know oneself cannot be achieved by others. Understanding comes from knowledge whereas wisdom comes from experience therefore it is the hardship of the journey that is the teacher. Should a person go through life just believing in what other people say one remains as a slave to those others. Freedom of self is being able to shift perspective to seeing all sides of arguments.
Greatness is the ability to allow the other their opinions as long as they have cause for no damage.
I found understanding the wisdom of the ancient desert fathers brought great benefit to me. For example: The seven mystical mirrors of the Essenes.

@@dafyddaprhys782 Wisdom does not have to be cryptic and mistified to count as wisdom.
I get a sense that the more cryptic and mistified (obscure) a knowledge is the more some people equate it to wisdom and then they persuade themselves they alone acquired the long lost key to understanding life and themselves, and that they are now wiser (than the rest) however I think it just strokes their ego to think that way and make them feel better about themselves.
It is the same with religious texts. If one's goal (compulsşın/need) is to feel wiser, one will then convince oneself into seeing wisdom in them. However if you really want to get the wisdom/truth out of them you will notice some wisdom can be salvaged from them as they also explain the human condition, and some parts are off the mark.
It is better to remain always skeptical about all kind of information that claims to provide a universal answer to the human condition.

As far as I understand bracketing is aimed at removing subjective interpretations of an event to be able to analyze the event in its true nature as best as possible.
This is already being done in natural sciences to identify cause-effect relationships of phenomena observed to prevent biased conclusions about the phenomena.
In that respect, bracketing ability would require critical thinking skills which would require well-developed metacognitive ability (i.e. superego), to perceive internalized information independent of the ego and id (or independent of the parts of the brain where those constructs are located, which identify with the self and self-interest and are hence biased by default).
I feel like this bracketing concept is a dead end though. There's no need for multiple words to define the apple fruit. When someone invents a new word for apple, it doesn't make the apple a new thing. It still is just apple. Bracketing, critical thinking, introspection, self-awareness, self-reflection, intuition, ajna chakra, superego, metacognition etc. these are all defining the same phenomenon and ability. All that these words do is to create confusion and pollute the academic domain as if they were defining something different, causing people to lose focus.
Edit : The question then should be whether and how to strengthen this ability?
"Ajna (Sanskrit: आज्ञा, IAST: Ājñā, IPA: [aːɟɲaː]), guru chakra or third-eye chakra, is the sixth primary chakra in the body according to Hindu tradition. It is supposedly a *part of the brain which can be made more powerful through meditation, yoga and other spiritual practices just as a muscle is* ."
    www.consciouslifestylemag.com/third-eye-chakra-ajna/
"Also, the third eye chakra is often called the dwelling place of the meditative faculty. It embodies the mantra hamsa, which is Sanskrit for “swan,” a revered bird that is said to be able to *distinguish truth from untruth* as it flies to places that ordinary people cannot reach."
"For most people, development of sixth-chakra capacities typically occurs along a continuum of growth. Such development takes different forms depending on each person’s chosen path. A few people are naturally disposed to the development of third eye chakra powers, *but most of us have to practice meditative techniques* to free the mind from worldly tethers and work earnestly to awaken our dormant ajna chakra potential to experience the gift of using more than our five senses."
    "Gurumayi Chidvilasananda suggests,
As you watch another person, give your blessings… Extend your support, your help…Be the Witness… In order to do that, keep your heart in the *Witness state* as well… If you practice this discipline in seeing, it will purify the way you see the world… When you look at people in this new way, you will act and speak to them differently… From this inwardly balanced state, you will be like a divining rod that intuitively knows how to… touch both the minds and hearts, and most likely, your own heart will be happy."
That witness state is also known as "mindfullness", which I forgot to mention in the list of terminology above.

Tl:dr: Science created many different words for the same thing but it all comes down to chakra. We don't need more terminologies and I'm upsad that chakra is not backed up by science.
I think it is necessary though to have all the terminologies because we do need definitions to better understand and explore different concepts of human psychology.
