The acting is phenomenal. When Todd said " no family " Susan's face b/c Marty has no family. They both were unreal in this the writing was so excellent. These 2 set the bar so high that nothing could ever be this good again. Bravo Sh rh writers! What a story a one night stand led to all of this. Pretty amazing. Marty touching his scar was like the first time she could feel Todd was a damaged human being for the first time & not a monster.

Beautifull scene. One thing to remember that Marty ISNT trying to comfort Todd when she touches his face. When she very deliberately touches his scar, its so she can finally realize that Todd is not just the evil monster that overpowered and ruined her life, but that he himself is human,is full of pain and powerless like she was. This makes her able to stop being so afraid of him and finally move on.Brilliant piece of writting, wish they could still write soaps lik this.

It was so great to watch this again. Roger & Susan were phenomenal. The raw emotion they both showed in their dialogue, facial expressions & interaction was beyond intense. So sad we haven't seen Susan in a whil, but at least Roger's still in & killing it on GH.

this is one of my favorite scenes in all of daytime time and words can't describe how emotionally satisfying it is for todd to finally fully realize what he did and for marty to find some sense of peace and justice. roger howarth and susan haskell are both phenomenal here, and to this day, roger is adamant that todd, in certain respects, was never fully "redeemed" and would always be a villain. he was on steve burton and bradford anderson's podcast recently talking about how uncomfortable he was with the idea of people romanticizing todd and what he did. todd definitely grew as a character and definitely had people around him who loved and accepted him but the metaphorical and physical scar on his face was always there. this was one of the few storylines in soaps that treated rape with the gravity and seriousness it deserves and that has a lot to do with roger and susan's performances as well as the writing.

This scene is so powerful and you don't have actors like these on tv anymore. And to think they SH and RH back together in 2011 , and blew it!!! What the hell were they thinking?! They robbed us of this brilliance.

Indeed I would have loved to see the look on Marty's face of when she sees two Todds. But most of all I would like to see the two of them bond with their granddaughter.

U know its not so crazy to see a rapist apologize to his victim. I've seen true stories where someone killed someone's child and the murderer asks for forgiveness and gets it. Those people that can forgive are a lot stronger than I am. I don't think anyone has ever forgiven their rapist or molester . I don't know think marty ever told him she forgave him. Its hard to believe this todd was the same man who led a gang rape. Its kinda heartbreaking that todd finally trusted and learned to really love a woman in blair ans she lied and used him. She got a todd that really was changing and she ripped his heart out.

@@natalieps2387 I personally know someone who HAS forgiven their rapist/molester.
Todd lied to Blair plenty of times, too, but they really loved each other.

It was a brilliant idea to have Todd open up to Marty the way he does. He allows her to see that he understands the pain that he has caused her, and that his feelings of pain run very deep as well. Finally seeing that he is truly remorseful is a major step in the healing process Marty which, in turn, is a major step for both of them. She can finally say goodbye to the demons which have plagued her without worry or regret, and both of them can turn a page in their lives.

@bjujubee - if you're crazy, I am too. That last TOUCH between them was AMAZING on both parts. Susan is also a tremendous gift to OLTL(or was) which they WRECKED during the TSJ era.

If Todd didn't want to open up to Marty like that then he would still be the monster that everyone thought he was. Because later on after this Todd would still hurt the people that he has hurted before. Because nothing changes when you hurt people all the time and knowing that you have to live with it for the rest of your life because of it. Despite not intending to do that.

I laughed out loud at your comment! Seriously, who would give this video a thumbs down? Well, I guess people who don't like to see a rape victim giving the rapist the time of day would, or maybe the scene can be upsetting for some other reason. But this scene is amazing.

Such a raw and intense scene... impeccable acting! I don't know how this man has been stuck on soaps all this time and has never made it to the big screen. And watching all these old videos makes me wish so much that they would still write like this today.... OLTL(and ALL soaps) now lacks so much depth, so much character development, so much REAL emotion. It's not raw and intense like this anymore, it's just a big joke.

    • @leslietrewhella380
      @leslietrewhella380 8 лет назад +3

natastical88 technically he's not stuck on soaps. In interviews he has said he's not doing this to become famous, he just wants to do good work. He's done other things on TV & that's enough for him.

*0:12** Rebecca's look here says she knew it was goodbye & she's moving on. You'd think Todd would have told her yes he wants to see her again and work on strengthening their relationship because he loved her but, no, he says he doesn't know but objects to her leaving town when he could've prevented it, which she alluded to at the airport.*

Going into future scenes of the characters of Todd and Marty I can literally see when and where the story started to bug the hell out of me...If Roger had left OLTL at this early date the show would have become mundane again and I would have stopped watching like I after Judith Light and Tommy Lee Jones left OLTL as much as I liked Erika Slezak and Phil Carey they needed someone new and Roger filled that spot and then some...

Haven't seen her around in a couple of years. It is rare for bo to be nice to todd, this is one of the few instances, another is when todd was on the run and the triggerhappy cop shot Todd while he was surrendering. Id recommend watching the whole story as it is awesome, but be warned Todd was a genuine monster villain up until he returned to llanview after he was presumed dead in early 94.

  • @joyjohnston236

It's been awhile since I watched these scenes and I still don't get it Todd was screwed up and angry back then as the storyline goes then and forward, but he was always "inhuman" but Powell was felt sorry for I don't give a rats ass that the writers made Powell out as being broken or something they wrote him as an abuser and rapist so as far I am concerned he IS the same as the character Todd. Roger was brilliant from the very start he brought OLTL out of the muck before he came on the show there was only Erika Slezak she was the only actress of that caliber... On GH when the writers give Roger a decent storyline he is still just as brilliant as ever! (actually, I make sure I am home or record the show if Roger is on that day! :) )

What a beautiful end and closure to at least the todd marty rape saga . Oltl was amazing during this time plus Dorian on death row and later vikis did. It sure didn't seem like a soap this was craftsmam.ship at its best. I always hated thst sh and Rh had lighting in a bottle chemistry it's a shame they ruined it with that brutal gang rape but the writers didn't know what they had in these two. Every man they paired sh with was nothing compared to Rh and sh chemistry. Of course Malone realized what he had when Rh acting and this accidental character was much more than a plot device to redeem marty. I don't think I've ever seen a dsy player actor with no name win an Emmy and rake over the show. Maurice and Tony geary on gh were short term spoilers for Laura and Karen and we're just short term but became so popular they stayed. Todd is even more miraculous bc mo amd Tony were hired to play parts with forst and last nanes. Rh was just hired as a day player but was so good at a young age they gave him more and more to do. I don't think this has ever happened in a soap. He was hired as frat boy 1 a glorified extra to be the spoiler with Jason and leeann with planting pot. Sean was the one hired as vikis cousin they hired jason and suede bur all their ex con with attitudes weren't as compelling as todds. His rise led to the termination or back burning of many males . Suede jason later zack powell and took ober leading male status was cord ans max which really angered jdp.

It's a travesty that Roger who was nominated for 94 didn't win his 2nd Emmy. Also he should not have been in supporting but in the lead actor category. For some reason at least w/ the emmys they never put a young actor Im the lead mich less they won. I'm not saying any of the usual actors didn't deserve thiir consecutive years. Susan also should also got a nomination. Roger was an excellent young & a bit " green" actor & more than deserved his Emmy but u thought his acting was.bettdr in 94.
