Debbie Gibson is truly the last of the Mohigans child stars who did not get messed up thanks to her awesome Mom. I’m a Mom here and God bless Debbie and her Mom in Heaven ♥️♥️♥️ much love and big fan of Debbie’s still even though I’m 53
The respect shown for Led Zepplin and The Who just reminded me of one of the things I really like about her. She was already a respected artist, and had songs on the charts. That's rare... but yet still, she was totally humbled by those groups and wanted to show that while there. Having respect for other artists, and just people in general, is just one of the things I have always like about Debbie
One of the more underrated vocalist, especially in the 80's. I remember watching her live performance of Lost In Your Eyes, when she was only 16 ( I think) and was floored by her vocal and musical talent (playing the piano).
AngeLa Marie Yes. She was a huge star but I said vocalist. When people think of singers they think of people like Whitney Houston, Chaka Kahn and others.
Ok late 1990s i lived in Tampa, FL. On my way into work(i worked in St Petersburg, FL)i heard Debbie was gonna throw an impromptu concert on the St Pete pier! Free! So right after work i went to the pier. Songs we hadn't heard in awhile came on. I got to make eye contact with her...then the thunderstorm happened lol. This was Summer so everyday was a storm. Lightening and thunder...Debbie agreed to shut down the microphone and electric music. And i saw her mom in the background gesturing ok shut it down we are heading into a storm! Debbie turned and looked at all of us & i grinned...she went ahead and sang 2 songs 1 Only in my Dreams and i can't remember the other. She sang acapella and used us as the back up singers LOL it was a good time. But i did see her mom trying to tell an adult to shut down concert lol Debbie ignored her and sang for us. I was and still am a fan!
That's ironic. That Atlantic 40th Anniversary Special aired in 1988. At that time, I had a rough knowledge of Debbie's work, but didn't know her catalog all that well just yet. I watched the special that year, saw Led Zeppelin and all of the others. And although I wasn't expecting it, when Debbie came on, she absolutely blew everyone else off of the stage. It was that performance that permanently put me in her corner. Although her behind the scenes accounts tell a different story, there was no obvious evidence of the "performance anxiety" she referred to here. All I saw was over the top great.
Actually, she did mention this specific event in 1989. She said she didn't get nervous when she was on the stage, but the waiting around was nerve-wracking. She put all her energy in her performance, and after the performance, she was extremely exhausted and had to leave.
Yes, I too was going to mention Tiffany. As much as I loved Tiffany Debbie had more hits than Tiffany did, but both were catchy and fun personalities. When I think we're alone now came out by Tiffany I was only 10 years old. What did I really know about loving a cute boy and running off with him into the bliss, but that song made me want to find a cute boy and run into the bliss in love sweet love. Hahaha. 😂
My favorite Debbie Gibson song to this day is, Foolish beat. At 10 my parents split and divorced. When that song came out my Dad would play it in the car on cassette tape and I wondered if he missed my Mom. He didn't miss my Mom as the whole reason they divorced was because he was a cheater, Ugh, but at 10 years old I guess I was putting feelings he didn't actually really have or feel and I was choosing in my youthful mind to connect "how I thought" he felt and in essence was attaching how I was actually "wanting him to feel" to the song. I mean I even know who he was having an affair with as they didn't keep it a secret from us kids. I still have no idea why my brother and I never said anything to my Mom. She found out another way. I asked her one time, "We never said anything?," she replied just one time your brother told me, "Daddy loves blonde girls." All I know is when you're a kid you just want your parents together, as an adult you can many times put the actual whole picture together and the reasons that never made sense to you as a kid begin to make a heck of a lot more sense as to why things happened or happen sometimes in life. It's amazing at times how missing pieces of your childhood puzzle begin to come together as an adult and then you can slowly make sense of a lot of those missing pieces. Songs have always had a powerful way of connecting me with my emotions, but we must realize just because we can feel them doesn't mean who we're thinking of while listening to them feel the same way which often causes an illusion. ❤
I was and still am so very protective of my baby girl. She , thank god , has never been violated. And she's very protective of her body. Because I instilled in her the importance of her body being sacred. Something I never had a chance to know.
Ahmet Ertegun was NEVER a threat to Debbie, nor did he ever cause her any issues. He was a very respectful man in the business. If it was any one who was good in the biz it was Ertegan. She had no readon to be aftaid or feel uncomfortable around him. Others i understand but not Ertegan
The “me too” movement was when all of the female musicians and actresses started telling all of the stories of the times that they were sexually harassed or raped within the industry and then that spit balled into every day women telling their stories of sexual harassment and rape at the hands of powerful men in the industries that they were working in
Now why do people want to become famous? Thank goodness for Debbie Gibson's mom to help her through all of that. The business of celebrity really messes people up, especially at a young age. Look at Ariana Grande who once licked all the donuts at a donut shop when she was younger. Like I said, the business really messes people up.
She still looks fantastic. No crazy cosmetic butchery. Just a healthy youthful woman.
Agree
Just hormones and breast implants so he can live out his life as a woman
Still love this lady. She is a wonderful singer and writer. I never knew she had panic,/ anxiety. Still a lovely lady.
I love Debbie !!!! Nothing fake about this woman !!! She’s amazing !!!!
Debbie has an Italian mom.. fiercely protected.
Italian?? Cool :) your right, very protective mother and talented well adjusted pop singer woman
well a roman gypsy mom is just as fierce and will throw anyone off the beam lol

Debbie is charming but also seems down-to-earth

Was not underrated at the time.
🎉🎉🎉🎉
She was NOT under rated! She was a HUGE star!

I have anxiety daily especially before big or important events. Doesn't stop me from performing my job.
If anyone is curious, you can see Debbie’s mom sitting on the bus in the “We Could Be Together” video.
Excellent mother!
I love her mom for that!!!!
Debbie looks healthy for her age here.
Especially considering that she has been sick for the last 12 years
She is my generations Taylor Swift. Hard to imagine TS in her 40’s.
Her and Tiffany.
TS is in the 40s @ the end of this decade anyways
Debbie Gibson is 51

Wow she is still absolutely gorgeous
🎙So awesome to see and hear Debbie say shake your love and text me in the morning🎶🙏☯️🤩
1:02 She is talking about this one, "Debbie Gibson Atlantic 40th Anniversary Concert 1988".
It's good to see her on headphone like she did back when she was young.
I was and still am so very protective of my baby girl. She , thank god , has never been violated. And she's very protective of her body. Because I instilled in her the importance of her body being sacred. Something I never had a chance to know.
If I was there, I would've given her a big hug & calmed her down. :)
Your mom rocks Debbie
Why in this time that if your protective of your kids it's considered almost abusive
I’m glad she never her a me too😊😊😊😊😊

What is a 'Me Too' story?
The “me too” movement was when all of the female musicians and actresses started telling all of the stories of the times that they were sexually harassed or raped within the industry and then that spit balled into every day women telling their stories of sexual harassment and rape at the hands of powerful men in the industries that they were working in
Being a young woman and sexually assaulted by a male with power over you. Like a movie producer, or director, or record executive.
MOST PEOPLE DIE ON TOUR I GET HEALTHIER.........PHIL COLLINS
She had street smarts and common sense instilled at a young age.
OMG she has a lisp.... In the past 35 years I have never noticed that lol it sounds cute on her.
Now why do people want to become famous? Thank goodness for Debbie Gibson's mom to help her through all of that. The business of celebrity really messes people up, especially at a young age. Anxiety and prozac
And your reason for writing that was?
Basically the complete opposite of Natalie Woods mother. Horrendous how many bad show parents there are and were.
