    So cool that you plugged Kirby. He is at least as responsible as Stan Lee for Marvel creations. I feel he is becoming a bit forgotten. "Why Haven't you been doing Kirby the whole time." He's also responsible for a ton of innovations in comics while Stan Lee was a coffee boy.

      Philip Sheppard I still don’t get why people love the first avengers that much. The storytelling in that movie (even when I first saw it in 2012) is incredibly problematic and kinda basic 🤷🏽‍♂️

    *explosion*
    "Nah, there goes the foundation. Gone now."
    Fucking amazing scene right there. I thought he was talking more about the metaphysical aspect of Asgard and its people, to tie into Odin's speech about how Asgard is her people, not a place. Turns out he was just being literal. Korg is awesome.

  • @tomstevens5798
    @tomstevens5798 6 лет назад +5

    Thor:Ragnorak was a good movie. However the one theme that disturbs me is "destroying the past" This is a philosophical theme that we, as a people, should destroy and disregard the past. This is a bad philosophy to forget everything that has happened in the past because we learn from history and how to avoid making the mistakes in the past and make sure they don't happen again. by not encouraging people to understand and know history invietes the masses to be manipulated individuals who have ill-intnet and want control. The thing about Ragnorak is that Asgard will be reborn to its former glory...and it has has repeatedly in the comics ... where Asgard and the Realms are restored and made the better for its rebirth. Asgard has to be reborn. And second...Thor will reforge Mjlonir...and even though he has lost his eye he is wiser because he is now the Lord of Asgard and the realms. And he is more confident to lead as the Father of his people and the Realms.

    • @Colin-kh6kp
      @Colin-kh6kp 2 года назад

      That was literally the point of the entire movie... Odin erasing history and whitewashing the past lead to all the conflict in the film...

    I wish Hela got more development, maybe could have wrote in that she took care of Thor as a baby, so she is a little reluctant when fighting adult Thor. I feel that would need some much needed emotion that this movie lacked.

    • @KabbalahSherry
      @KabbalahSherry 6 лет назад +5

      Clint McKee - Is that comic canon? 🤔 Cuz I really like that angle & it would have made for a more compelling story.

    • @clintmckee1751
      @clintmckee1751 6 лет назад +4

      Nope, it's just a change I figured would make sense. Otherwise there really isn't much reason for Hela being related to Thor in the first place if they don't take advantage of that.

    • @swimmingagainsttheti
      @swimmingagainsttheti 6 лет назад +14

      While I loved the idea of Hela being Thors sister, it honestly brought nothing to the film. Even have Thor be the reason for her banishment would have added something. Say once Thor was born, Odin began to become more good and decided to stop at 9 realms. As a result Hela, seeing her father weakened by love, attempts to kill Thor, causing him to banish her.
      Again, I love the idea that she is Thors sister. But they literally did nothing to it. Thor didn't try to redeem her, she didn't hesitate once in an attempt to kill him or persuade him to her side.

    • @Rantsnrambles808
      @Rantsnrambles808 6 лет назад +3

      They shoulda ripped offa avatar the last air bender imo. The climax had about the same scenario but in avatar it’s kind of sad because the sister has been raised to be evil.

      yeah she got totally wasted in terms of plot like she was just a threat Thor needed to get back to Asgard stop like Cate Blanchett was a delight to watch but like she's Thor's fucking SISTER man like how do you waste that so easily she could've been anyone

    Both of them + you, keeps your channel entertaining. That being said. The audience and i were laughing and having a great time with this movie but under the fun surface this was a tragic story. Looking back i feel more sadness for Thor's third story than the initial fun. I dont know anything about Marvel comics or Ragnarok but now that i have had enough time for memories to come back. They were very sad. Taika Watiti was the very best casting for this show. He does Bittersweet very well.

    I knew there was something about Space Brain I didn't like, but I couldn't put my finger on it till now. Yup, Space Brain is definitely trying to worm Robot's lady. Robot called him out on his scheming ways. Space Brain weaseled his way back into the show and back into CBG19's heart. I feel yah Robot. To quote Chris Hemsworth's man-perfume ad: 'Success without Integrity means nothing'. Everything wrong with this movie, can be best illustrated in IT's best scene which almost worked, the Norway scene where Odin shows his love for both his sons...EVEN mass murderer Loki who half destroyed New York (in 2012's The Avengers film). But hey!! Continuity's not important to telling a story!! Oh, wait, Continuity is pretty much everything a story is. Still, at least Hela got to be Loki in this film, just like her Dad Loki. Except they made her Odin's daughter here. So, uh, no real explanation as to why she so evil, in this soul-less spoof.
    For someone who knows so much about Marvel's comic book history about Thor, surprised u didnt have more an issue with this film. Particularly as u were quoting well respected Walt Simonson's take on Thor, which brough Thor more in line with the original myths. Particularly as Walt Simonson casually & rightfully dismissed Roy Thomas's braindead 'Astrological' goofy explanation of Nordic mythology.
    Changing Hela from being Loki's daughter, to Odin's, also changed Odin's history, and nature. Essentially making him evil. No better than a Mafia Don who softened a little bit in his old age.
    This film is completely beyond the nobleness of the original campfire quality of the original legends, fathers wanting to instill heroic values telling them to their sons. The old Journey into Mystery stories pretty much had same idea too.
    It thus misrepresents both the Norse Myths, and Marvel's reasonably faithfully version of it (even if their are a few differences). And departs, even from Marvel Movie continuity.
    Not least of which is the mythically mysterious worthiness required to lift the heretofore indestructible Mjolnir.
    This film works only as a spoof, of disconnected comedy sketches.....with lashings of very poor, indisticnt CGI.
    Marvel COMIC's version, particularly first 400 or so issues, and more particularly, first Stan Lee written ones did differ slightly from original myths...Loki being made Thor's step brother, rather than Odin's non-related 'blood brother'. But the difference between Tiger Wakiki's writer and Stan Lee (as well as Walt Simonson), is that both Stan & Walt LOVED the original myths.
    The tosspot screen writer of this bunch of Troll droppings clearly doesnt.
    This film wont survive many rewatchings, Comic Book Girl, so I aint buying it on DVD.

    Thor Ragnarok was a very fun movie, really hilarious and a great time. But I'm surprised this review didn't mention how weak the story was when you got right down to it. A lot of things were played for laughs that shouldn't have been. The introduction of Hela was rushed and to say she needed a bit more character development is being waaaay too kind to what they did with her.
    I get that they finally figured out how to play the Thor universe, basically as a comedy, and you can tell the actors were having a lot of fun. But the final product ended up having zero emotional depth considering they were tackling very heavy topics like (SPOILER ALERT) the death of Odin, Thor finding out he had been lied to by his father, Thor finding out he had an older sister, Thor losing Mjolnir, Valkyrie coming to terms with her loss in Asgard which drove her to become an alcoholic bounty hunter on Sakaar, Hela's feeling of betrayal by her father, Loki indirectly causing Odin's death, and the DESTRUCTION OF F***ING ASGARD ... I mean we laughed our way through all these things. Oh and the end fight scene was one of the corniest I had ever seen. The audience should have been terrified on Fenrir, but no, not even close.
    This movie may well have been the best of the Thor series, (although I will argue that the first half of the first Thor movie had a solid take on the right things to focus on)... but favorite Marvel movie? I mean, this movie is far more obviously flawed than many many others ...

    "I think, and that might shock some people, that Thor Ragnarok is my new favorite Marvel movie" => Right, right. How original. Every damn nerd and Marvel fanboy on the interweb have been saying the same thing, all falling into the studio's trap of insipid pseudo-coolness. Being twelve and all excited for such mediocre entertainment is understandable, but an adult ? Girl, I know the name of your channel is Comic Book Girl, so I don't expect you to have Dreyer and Bergman as favorite directors, but you need to be a little bit more demanding than that.

    I enjoyed the movie and Its probably the third or fourth best Marvel movie. It followed the same formula they started using since Avengers and lacked at the end so it's not the best.
    SPOILERS:
    The pacing of the movie was kind of bad at some places, we only got one gladiator fight, the giant wolf didnt get a proper fight and just fell, Hulk and the Valkyrie weren't important at the end so they didn't felt needed, the Hela fight was waaay to short and it felt like we needed more 10 minutes at the end (even if it was just her fighting power-up Thor for more 5 minutes and the fire giant for a little longer).
    The two stories at the same time took the time we could have more fun with each separated.
    Still with so many problems and exactly following the same formula, the movie was amazing for the visual style, great acting (specially for Hela), good use of soundtrack and well written comedy (dialogue, not the main story).

      Well he's only a 'God' in comparison to primitive humans. All the Asgardian advantages/Power come from being a long lived & ancient race with high technology. Their 'empire'/sphere of influence is only nine systems so pretty small in galactic scheme of things so when up against other advanced/ancient races their power is equalled or surpassed. Grand-Master is older than Odin ...more powerful ...more high tech so has the knowledge & power of how to hobble the Asgardians. Asgardians aren't the only 'Gods' getting around in Marvel Universe. They are matched by the Olympians, The Ennead etc and that's just in relation to humans never mind the other 'God' races such as New Gods, Celestials, The Watchers etc
