Not just that Miley is Dolly's godchild, she is also a daughter of a country singer Billy Ray Cyrus. No wonder she has the ability to sing country music in such distinctive manner. :o) She is a splendid, incredibly versatile singer though. 💙

I am pretty sure Dolly is Miley's godmother, which is iconic. I have always adored this cover. the whole backyard sessions is gorgeous. she is a bit younger here, though. her voice got husker over the yeas I think. she was always singing with a bit of country twang, that's her background and heritage. she always had a beautiful low voice as well... but a bit brighter back when then I feel like.
Jolene is not an aggresive song. It actually has a begging tone if you listen to Dolly or even the excellent cover by Sisters of Mercy. Mileys voice is incredible, but she misinterpreted the song.
Maybe you are the one missing the point with covers. Its about making your own rendition of a song. The interpretation is free...that is kind of the point. I don't find Mileys version aggressive at all (???)...but even if it was it sure would be kind of refreshing with a woman showing anger. That is kind of a natural feeling if someone tries to get with your partner isn't it?

You can beg and be angry at the same time you know. When she describes Jolene in the lyrics like that beautiful woman that can get any man, I feel like she is almost annoyed and irritated. She even calls her hussy😆😆😆 But not in the lyrics though. Maybe it wasnt as ok back then to show anger in country music. But music is often to read between the lines. The lyrics shouldnt always be taken literally. In my imagination Dolly is fed up by this home wrecker.
