Love your videos thanks for all the info!
Healer main I play with a group of friends who wanted to play different roles so I went with prot warrior. Your videos have been crucial to my abilities in dungeons and for that good sir I tip my hat to you
Tyty!
thought I would learn, instead got more confused. I just watched a guy smashing combos with an alien UI. super interactive and understandable
Nice tips there. Thanks for the vid keep it up 👍
You described your issue with rage generation at the beginning of your pull and I may have a fix for you.
The Pure Rage Potion from Warlords of Draenor instantly generates 75 rage with a 5 minute cooldown. The potion has no level cap and I never hear this strategy mentioned anywhere. Furthermore, the mats to make it are dirt cheap
I love how you have put a lot of deep thought into keybinds. I wonder how many people realize that it’s not just running the meta spec but the speed at which one can execute their toon’s actions. Personally, i use a gaming mouse, which essentially means I have 24 actions I can preform Just with my right hand thumb on the mouse and the shift bar with my left pinkie. The play style and potential power between a “clicker” and someone with a gaming mouse is incalculable ❤
Got a sub from me my guy keep it up. Did M+ with prot pal. tired of the same thing and the slow movement and small rotation. I need the bigger more complex rotation thanks for the help.
Got my sub and like. Thanks for this amazing guide
Thanks for the explanation brotha
Congrats on 6k!!
good work ma dude
The biggest thing for prot warriors with so many abilities is modifier macros, and sequence macro…..for example, a really simple one is a battle stance>defensive stance sequence macro so it just toggles between them. One bind, two abilities. Then making bindings with shift/alt/Ctrl modifiers, combined with weakauras to alert you when abilities are ready…this way you can have certain abilities bound to the same key with a modifier…and since you don’t have the icon to tell you when they come off cd, the weakauras will. Example: bind shield wall and last stand both to the same key (let’s just say 4), but shield wall has 4 + shift modifier. Have the #showtooltip in the macro be last stand, and then since you’re only going to see last stand on your action bar, so you won’t know when shield wall comes off cooldown, just make a weakaura that pops an icon on your screen when shield wall comes off CD. I finally started playing this way ages ago and basically have cut down to using middle mouse wheel and tilt, 6 of the 12 mouse mmo buttons, and 1-4, and tilde…and that covers everything on any class if I use shift, ctrl, and alt modifiers.
👍
I need this two keys at once video you just changed my gameplay thinking with what you said!!
Is there any way you could share your plate profile? It looks so clean and effective. I’ve been having a lot of trouble learning tanking due to muddled up plates
Another great video! Didn’t even know about an “opener” but they sound pretty damn efficient in getting a lot going. My guy is level 38 so some of what you’re talking about is in my future, but enough to know that I’m missing opportunities left and right.
But I will say as a former FFXIV Paladin tank Protection Warrior is a lot more fun to play. Even at L38 there’s just a nice flow to how things work. Thanks for your work!
Pleeease make that keybinding video guide I’m struggling with that. These prot warrior guides have been godtier!!!
I was wondering, for the number-crunchers out there...
Would it be possible, with all the different options we have of the Dragonflight Talent tree's, to re-create something resembling the "Gladiator-Stance" build for Sword'n Board Warriors we had in WoD???
Just wondering...
Not really tbh. The tree is spread pretty evenly between utility and damage output. You can definitely gain some more offensive potential compared to the last two xpacs though.
what add-ons do you use to tank (i need the hotbar binds the most)
Do you macro shield block to another ability so you are just always hitting it on CD?
Late to the party, but is there a downside to refresh IP while first still running? will the new shield be added?
And is there a addon which shows dangerous mob abilities when they target you in advance? I got a wa next to Nameplates which shows the cooldown of npc abilities but as a tank i want to know when a dangerous cast comes towards me at best in advance like in raid with the counters is there a WA for trashmobs?
And i struggle with aggro what can i do if the inital pull is not grouped. To cast revenge is grief before defensive are up but clap got so much cd. I struggle to collect the aggro :(
ty
can u make a video with addons and weakauras for prot war?
Can you do a rotation guide for earthwarden shaman ;)
im trying to set up my bars now, I thought druid had a lot of abilities, I am absolutely stunned that warrior has more. The abilities im having problems with finding space for are slam and whirlwind. You dont mention them in your video, are they even worth a spot on the bars?
Slam and whirlwind are both replaced with revenge for the most part. More damage and synergy while still being a great filler between other attacks. That’s why those two are never used for prot warrior for the most part.
@@RogueJin perfect ty
How does thunder clap spread rend? did i miss something? Thx
It was a hotfix they implemented in beta, you don't need to actively rend a target anymore, thunderclap will apply as long as you have the blood and thunder talent selected. Very nice quality of life
I'm confused about the talent under ravanger that gives it 2 charges but cuts the damage by 40 percent I mean you still get 2 60 percent ravangers that just pour in rage but everyone says it's bad
It's how the charge system works, which is kinda wonky. I personally enjoyed running it and is a massive rage gain.. Issue with it "not being good" (quotation marks doing a lot of work there). Is the tree itself has so much crazy good stuff in it that good talents become back picks.. Unfortunately with WoW there's a mentality of if it's not the best it's dogcrap
@@mazthemetaltailor fair enough idk i run keys at a decently high level actually pushed my warrior past all my other tanks last season (from like 22-23 to like 25s) i like the talent but like i almost feel bad taking it lmfao but yeah your vids were super helpful to get me started was just curious how you felt bout it ty
I'm a new player and i'm not sure if i understand tanks completely. Is the gameplay really just about keeping agro and raising your defenses? I thought you would be blocking and parrying and all that fun stuff. Am i missing something?
COOOL VIDEO
Highly appreciated the work you did on this. A tip i would give you, as a viewer, would be to keep things a little bit organised. I found many of the things you said were very important but your explanation was all over the place and I found it very hard to follow. Give us 3-4 minutes where you only talk about talents, then opener, aggro, defensives, etc
ppl need KEY BINDS! 😁
I am SO CONFUSED about shield block uptime. When I’m at my very best, missing absolutely zero sheiks blocks, my buff time overall is at around 80%. It’s usually around 70%. Still, between 70% sb uptime and ignore pain Im timing 11’s right now at about average difficulty. I’m just not sure why everyone is claiming sb should have 100% uptime - I’ve never even come close!
100% effective up time.. You obviously don't need it while running about
@@mazthemetaltailor So I did the math, and basically with Heavy Repercussions AND Enduring Def, with a haste brining SB cooldown to 13, the first 32 seconds of an encounter nets you 84% uptime if the player never misses SB, while every second after that nets you 61% uptime, which is essentially at 72.5% uptime for a 64second-long encounter. Every second after brings your uptime closer to 61%. The only caveat to this is if you are running Shield Charge and Champions Bulwark, which does grant an additional 8 seconds every 45 seconds, but that still doesn't net you 100% effective uptime. I mean, correct me if I'm wrong here, but check your details for SB in the bufftime section after a minute long encounter. Reaching beyond 84% effective doesn't seem possible.
@@wierdpocket Effective up time and total uptime via details arent the same thing.. Effective uptime is during actual combat, you obviously dont need to have it up in between pulls while moving around. most dungeons I have it up around 85% of the total run, which account for time between pulls and whatever waiting occurs makes sense.. for raid this is different.
I watched this video and they suggested to just spam this macro
#showtooltip Shield Slam
/startattack
/cast Shield Block
/cast Shield Slam
/cast Ignore Pain
Whats your opinion on a macro like that? I was also doing ignore pain and shield block on mousewheel up and down. I noticed with that macro I have less control when stuff is used.
This seems like a pretty bad idea as it will dramatically decrease dmg output as you'll be rage starved a bit due to IP. Maybe I'm wrong, but I feel like you want the ability to weave revenge in to your rotation instead of using all your rage on IP, which seems inevitable if you're using this macro.
for absolute beginners its not bad. but I wouldnt really suggest this for most cases. I prefer having more direct control over my character
I just want an opener, and what to click after wards. MINUS ALL CDs. The simple rotation. So I can click start to finish.
I open a mob pull with Shield Charge, Rend, Thunder Clap, Shield Slam, Revenge.
Im lost after that. Its so confusing and complicated. Im not a youngster anymore and its ruining my favorite pass time since I cannot stand watching tv.
1. Shield charge or charge
2. Thunderclap(auto applies Rend, no need to manually apply)
3. Ignore pain
4. Shield Slam or Revenge
Keep Ignore Pain and Shield Block up, dump rest of rage into revenge
What about Talents ? Could you link talent code ^^
talent code is linked in the description box
Whats that transmog that you're wearing?
Shadowlands season 2 pvp set
@@mazthemetaltailor Thanks for replying! Is the shield also from Shadowlands?
first time wow player, alot of terms in this video i didnt understand like GCD. This class seems complicated after watching the video
“TaNkS sHoUlDnT bE pLaYeD iN pVp” I’m so tired of this narrative
As a prot main who pops as prot and has done so for 10 years. I'm willing to argue this.
Im sorry if thats what you got from it.. Its not that I dont play tanks in pvp.. I just dont pvp at all, on any spec
@@mazthemetaltailor I’m not getting that I’m just tired of hearing it in battlegrounds…. Like imagine telling others how to play a game. If I wanna walk into a BG with no armor on…. imma fucking do it. It’s just the premise of telling other how to play that makes me angry lol. Sorry to rant on your video much love tho
@@kylercraigen7698 oh no worries mate! I cna understand how you feel!
Same here. I started playing tanks this season just to spite the whiny playerbase. Tanks absolutely belong in pvp and exist in every other class-based pvp environment such as mobas and even in games like Multiversus ffs. WoW players need to get a grip (preferably a death drip chain).
I can do a whole 10 without even clicking SB once. Lol 384 ilvl too OP just not enough DPS imo
so is the dps of prot war in myt to low? i was thinking on making one or bdk but not sure which one to pick..
@@froxz5992 I can do about 28-35k overall depending on dungeon in 10s @ 389 ilvl
@@thedetailerr thats actually pretty good for a tank i thought you where going to say like 20k
