    Soooo frustrating. I had a big slug problem this spring and it's heartbreaking to see your plants just destroyed overnight when you've put so much into them. Way to keep your chin up.

    I've heard before that if you make water available for thirsty creatures during drought times you may have less pest issues. I had something taking big bites out of tomatoes during some dry weeks this summer, so I put a container of fresh water outside my garden fence and it seemed to help.

    Oh no! Having a couple of dogs and cats has helped us a lot with pest control in the garden and compost areas. We have poodles, and when we trim their fur, we discard the fur around the perimeter. It has been a noticeable improvement.

    Armadillos will follow a scrap board, such as a 2x4 or 2x6 leading to a live trap. You can funnel them toward the trap and this increases your odds of catching one ten or twenty fold.

    I’m dealing with major pest pressures this fall as well. Also Arkansas, also planted carrots FOUR times, 72 foot row, going to end up with about 20 individual carrots if I’m lucky. Planted 24 foot row of beets 3 times as well…not any got bigger than sprouts. Between rabbits squeezing thru the fence, army worms, cutworms, and birds pulling up seedlings, this fall garden is a bust. Will try again in the spring. Thanks for the video Becky, helps to know others are dealing with this also, your outlook is admirable, especially as y’all rely on your garden so much!

    Raccoons and porcupines ate my corn the night before harvest. I donot mind the mice or voles eating a few beets but when they are like Goldilocks and trying each one, anibble here a nibble there ,so no beets this year

I have rabbits and deer really bad and I know what you are going through and it is SO VERY heartbreaking when it happens. You look wonderful and so healthy, guess the trip paid off for you.

    I don't know if it would be something that you would be interested in doing in the future, but have you considered having a pond built on your property? Might help keep some animals out of your fields. Maybe even plant some throw away crops near it just to try and lead things away from the garden. Just an idea to think about.

    • @Nicole-kc1vx
      @Nicole-kc1vx 10 часов назад

      Yes, a good idea! We have 3 ponds already on the property. But none are super close to the garden.

    • @iceprincessice15
      @iceprincessice15 7 часов назад

      @TheSeasonalHomestead There's a lot of advantages to a pond. It'll help keep critters away. If you build it close to the garden but also near your animals like the pigs, then it can be an easy watering hole for them. Plus, theirs nothing that says family bonding like fishing in a pond/lake if you were to add fish to it as well. Even simple catch and release is a fun pass time.

    Fun fact, tomato hornworms are black where I live. If they are exposed to extreme heat, they change to black. Because of videos like yours, I knew what they look like(when they are green). My husband found it and couldn't figure it out and I was like, is that a black tomato hornworm?? Turns out it was 😂

    There are many different issues to consider, and failure to consider relevant issues can result in an awful situation, or situations.
    Regarding myself I been busy learning about how to grow, and other topics as well. Building a garden without properly understanding how to grow is a mistake. Because you, and other people who are like you could end becoming reliant do to failing at learning how to grow.
    I made mistakes as well to grow food when I started learning, and I eventually learned what I did wrong. I am planning to build a garden, so I been looking at the process of how this is done. If you are not interested to learn on your own then I think you might as well buy food from outside sources.
    You might have some food that successfully grown. I think what should be concerning to you is what kind of pests you have, and if they are still there. Having pests can be a serious problem, for whatever is growing, and I am not sure about if, or how it would effect humans.

      @@TheSeasonalHomestead thank you and congratulations on your baby👼🏻. If you've never grown summer savory not the Italian one you should try it is amazing in chicken soup. That's something we do up in northern Maine and in canada. It's delicious and it's beneficial when you're sick especially. And I can't tell you the smell is divine. Also have you thought about growing mint around your garden. Specially peppermint a lot of animals don't like that. Also solar lights that turn on with movement that can deter armadillos and other animals. I have this solar thing I used for voles and moles. To be honest with you I can't remember which one it was but I had a huge issue. And it made a noise and it vibrated. And the noise wasn't loud at all. But it got rid of them LOL that and this beautiful hawk. And I don't know if armadillos don't like blood meal but a lot of animals don't that's something to think about.
