Exactly. I think the film was pretty great. I have no idea what peoples problems are? My guess is they either went in wanting to hate it or perhaps they didn't watch it at all.
@danggoodfood3202 Your taste is mid. Go back to watching MCU Captain Marvel lol All jokes aside, I think the film is awesome. But I think its one of those movies you either love or hate. I think if more people watched it more people would feel like us. Especially people who arew into story based superhero movies rather than just action joy rides. This movie reminded me of 80s movies like monster squad or goonies. Also reading the comics, may have helped me appreciate the film more.
um in shazam billy mom abandon him cause she couldn't take care of him and still didn't want him back when he got older so he found new parents with the foster mom and dad. with incredibles the heroes retired raised a family then the dad left to do superhero on the side and ended up being a super hero family so I would say way different family dynamic.
The first Shazam is better for sure, but I actually think Shazam 2 made the two actors for Billy Batson closer in their characteristics. In the first movie they felt like two completely different people. At least in the sequel you can see the teen actor a little more happier in his mood whereas in the first one he was completely depressed 90% of the time unlike Zachary.
Actually, Shazam and Billy’s personality are completely opposite. Billy is more mature in his normal form but somehow he acted even more childish in his Shazam mode
9:44, Dr. Strange's director Scott Derrickson told that he wanted to make the second movie more horror by showing the multiverse as a scary concept that shouldn't be tampered with but Marvel and Disney only wanted it to include non-scary jumpscares since it was a PG-13 film so the director walked out and they brought Sam Raimi in.
I really enjoyed both Shazam Movies despite that Fury of the Gods bombed at the Box Office. I really like that The Batman took the Spider-Man: Homecoming formula as a fresh start for rebooting Batman and I really want Battinson to get 2 trilogies like MCU Spider-Man. I’m mostly excited for Blue Beetle this year because it has Cobra Kai Actor Xolo Mariduena and I hope it exceeds its expectations and it doesn’t flop at the box office. Even if Blue Beetle does flop at the Box Office, I would still like it when the movie comes out.
Maybe DC just thrives with horror directors. James Wan made Aquaman, David Sandburg made the Shazam movies and Andy Muschietti directed The Flash (which apparently has been called one of the best comic book movies after early screenings despite Ezra Miller’s actions). Hell, James Gunn even used to be a horror director and now he’s in charge of DC with a genuine plan.
Nolan didnt direct horror films and the dark knight trilogy was great. Zack snyder did a horror film but man of steel and bvs were crap. Patty jenkins didnt do a horror film and wonder woman was great.
In the second movie, I didn't get the Atlas Sisters' motive. They literally have powers already and are powerful, it feels dumb to think the kids "stole" the powers was dumb considering the sisters' powers.
It wasn't about getting the powers back, it was about making a point, setting an example that they shouldn't be messed with. This is why Hespera and Anthea decided to drop the whole thing when it comes to attacking the Shazam family. Yes they had their powers, but the wizard giving their powers away, to mortal children no less was a slap to the face that didn't honor their father's legacy.
@@bggsz4 I suppose that makes sense but Hespera used that thief analogy and it sorta made me think that they were unjustifiably mad at these kids. But good point.
Honesty it’s kinda sad how people just write off Shazam 2 as just another generic super hero movie when really. It has a lot going for it that I don’t think people give respect towards or gives credit to.

shazam 2 was so garbage. they joked around way to much it was way to hoakey pokey. it was so hard to take shazam serious I only kinda took him serious at the very end. it was way less serious. the guy that gave shazam his powers treated shazam like a complete joke. the foster kids felt more like a after thought. the villians were the only ones taking anything serious. if shazam 2 was way more serious and took shazam serious then I feel like this movie would be good. the first shazam is way better. Eric, I’d love to hear your in-depth thoughts on Man of Steel. Have u ever thought about making a Superman the movie (1978) vs Man of Steel versus video?
What's bothering me about Shazam's hero group is that one of the female members isn't wearing a skirt, while the other one does. Shouldn't both female members not wear skirts in their superhero form, or wear skirts to diverse them from the male members?
Nah, Fury of the Gods was atrocious, weak action, MCU comedy copy and it overdid the same joke twice, Levi's miscast, movie didn't the charm the 1st one had. Glad that it bombed at BO like Black Adam.
Very good assessment. 1st Shazam was great because it kept it simple. 2nd Shazam got a bit lost in the complexity. I never understand why studios rush the escalation. Second Shazam should have introduced Black Adam, not as an antihero, but arch nemisis. Then have the third film as an all out showdown
I think we all can agree that shazam 2 was a dc version of the mcu movies because the humour in this movie takes all the emotional scenes feel corny . The villains in this movie cannot be taken serious at all and I think their motive has a plot holes cuz in the opening scene they just kill all the innocent people in the museum but later in the movie they tell us that they just wanted to restore their realm without any violence and turns out that they just need the apple and not the wand . The movie does not tell us that how the daughters of atlas came to earth and how the bridge in the opening scene broke . The editor just left us to imagine those things , what a piece of shit . when shazam died and was burried wonder women came out of nowhere to give life to shazam so why didn't she come to help shazam from the threats of the daughters? There's so many stupid plot holes in this movie which I'm tired of writing.
Fantastic video Eric, I have a suggestion for a versus video. It's a versus video between rise of the planet of the apes, dawn of the planet of the apes, and war for the planet of the apes, it would be good because a new film is coming out next year titled kingdom of the planet of the apes. Big fan and have a great day Eric
I didn't think the horror element of the first film worked and the villain sank the film for me. The horror elements just felt out of place and jarring for what's supposed to be a more upbeat film. As a result, I feel so torn on that film. The horror elements work better in the sequel because they blended with the tone much better, which makes me like the sequel better. Thanks for not bashing on the sequel like you did for the remake of The Little Mermaid (even though I think the remake is better).
I thought of dr. Savana’s secondary motivation was more “prove that no one is worthy” of the wizard’s character trial, and in a sense, destroying the hope of the wizard-again tied to his inferiority complex. The twist is, Billy would have agreed. That’s what made their dynamic so interesting, especially once dr. Savana learned he was a kid. He hit all his insecurities and almost won. I think Mr. Mind would have made a better villain than BA at this point. 2nd movie made it a point to stress how Billy wasn’t that smart (though movie wasn’t showing it well) making cracks on how wisdom of Solomon tended to elude him or be Mary’s domain. So while I don’t see it, I’ll go along with it. Mr. Mind would have challenged Billy at his weakest area-intellect. Being a caterpillar, it’s not far reaching to make a story about evolution, just like how Billy has to evolve from being a kid to being 18, aging out of the foster care system-the best part of his arc this movie. This would also give BA a chance to actually do a correct origin movie-one hinted at during the 1st Shazaam (Srsly, why didnt they?). Then bring in BA and billy teams up with Superman like in the animated movie. There billy learns what being a hero stands for. So his arc is: Movie 1) billy learns about family Movie 2) billy matures to the unfamiliar, overcoming weaknesses Movie 3) billy learns to expand his view to significance-mimicking what we experience growing up.
Off topic, but I have some suggestions for versus videos -Evil Dead(2013) Vs Evil Dead Rise -Hereditary Vs Midsommar Vs Beau is Afraid The second suggestion might be different than what u typically compare. Because those are arthouse A24 movies, and all three of those movies are directed by the same director. I would be interesting to see u cover some A24 films
Story - Shazam Action - Shazam 2 Horror - Shazam Villains - Shazam 2 The Acyor playing Dr Sivana did a GREAT job, however he reminded me of a knock off of Lex Luthor in that hes bald and is Jealous/Envious of Supermans power. Design wise hes very cliche, in that hes just another basically a copy/rip off of James Bond's Blofeld/Austin Powers Dr Evil. Call it a homage of you like but to me its just a repeat of what we had before minus the cat. As for the character himself, on his own hes just basically a man, whos bitter and angry that Billy was chosen instead of him. As such he didnt seem like that much of a threat to me. The Sins on the other hand were cool but sadly they were reduced to being servants/henchmen and so we didn't get to see the true threat they could've been. Personally I woulda LOVED to have seen the 7 deadly sins betray Dr Sivana and have the sins run amock and see how their presence affects the world with the sins bringing out the worst in people and making them do bad. Now as for the Daughters of Atlas. I liked that we were getting more of the lore and origin of Shazams Powers and I liked that the sisters weren't basic run of the mill cliched badguys but rather have more depth to them, and while I don't normally like it when writers try and have the villains as misunderstood so that you can see it from their POV, I think it worked in this sense and made sense. Afterall wouldnt you too be angry if a bunch of wizards stole your power and locked you away for centuries only to find out the power has been given away to a bunch of prebubesant teens? I would be pissed. Overall the Atlas Daughters with their army of mythical monsters seemed like a bigger threat which is why I gave the point to shazam 2 So while it comes to a draw, I have to give an extra point for the 1st movie as that overall just seemed funnier to me, and while the sequel did have some good jokes that worked, I didn't think they were as funny as the 1st. As for issues 1. For the most part I didnt like the Shazamily(Shazam Family) other than Mary who seemed to be the only one other than Billy to take the hero business seriously. In the original we have Freddy who is selfish and wants to use Shazam for himself but atleast he helped shazam so it balanced out his personality. In this though we see how powers going to such a selfish and egotistical person can lead to in that hes become a showoff and wants to steal the limelight for himself and cares more about getting girls than he does about saving the day and using his powers for good. Darla just seemed annoying and iverly cutesy and was basically a walking, talking promotional advert for skittles. Choi didn't really do much. They had these doors but didnt really do or show anything with them. Same with the Fat kid who was just there to be gay for the sake of LGBQT propaganda and representation, which wasn't so bad in the 1st as it was done subtly but here I felt it was overdone, and too heavy handed which made the jokes feel not as funny as they couldve. All in all I agree that this film needed so be longer in order to properly flesh out and develop the characters and allow the story to flow better than all over the place. As for Billies and Shazams difference in personalities, I didnt mind this as much as I don't know if Shazam ages like humans do and as so he may be forever the lil boy trapped in an grown mans body.
This video actually convinced me to go and watch Shazam 2, I skip that one after been so terribly dissapointing with recent Super Hero films (cof, cof Marvel Films Cof, Cof) and watching so many reviews bashing the film, but like you absolutely loved Shazam 1, seen that you also liked the sequel, make me realize I probably need to go watch that film..........sadly will be in home, the movie is long go from my locals theaters.

Guys love of dc makes him ignore any valid criticisms.
Since Shazam 2 bombed at the box office, I doubt the character will be included in the DC reboot.
What did you think of Shazam in Justice League Unlimited ?
2nd one wasn't bad but the 1st was way better overall
Nah, Fury of the Gods was atrocious, weak action, MCU comedy copy and it overdid the same joke twice, Levi's miscast, movie didn't the charm the 1st one had. Glad that it bombed at BO like Black Adam.
No
Can’t believe he like it
Very good assessment.
Shazam 2 suffered from backlash of DC fans after the ousting of Henry Cavil and the announcement of a reboot.
Also because of The Rock ego
@@alexbellon1892 That played a part, certainly but not as much as the above-mentioned factors.
My guy really used the Harry Potter 3 game music that’s used in the menu goated af
Kind of a whimper to end Shazam on.
Can you do transformers 1 vs 2
Please do Kung Fu Panda vs How To Train Your Dragon?
I loved the first film, but I HATED the second one, but I respect your opinion.
Good vs video as usual! I think you should do shrek vs shrek 2 someday.
dude chill with the mcu hate you literally said joshstice league is better then avengers 1 😂 i hate to tell you but that’s factually wrong😂
He admitted he was wrong.
15:04 Do you still enjoy Black Adam?
Will you be doing a QMR on Guardians Vol 3 (or maybe even a versus video of the three movies)?
You wanting more of Fury of the gods is more then you can say for Eternals
So his arc is:
Movie 1) billy learns about family
Movie 2) billy matures to the unfamiliar, overcoming weaknesses
Movie 3) billy learns to expand his view to significance-mimicking what we experience growing up.
love this. shazam 2 gettimg the respect it deserves. disagree on the score tho
Nice video as always
I highly recommend watching Blue Beetle. I loved Shazam 1 and liked 2 for the family dynamic, but I think BB might've just defeated both with theirs!
Off topic, but I have some suggestions for versus videos
-Evil Dead(2013) Vs Evil Dead Rise
-Hereditary Vs Midsommar Vs Beau is Afraid
The second suggestion might be different than what u typically compare. Because those are arthouse A24 movies, and all three of those movies are directed by the same director. I would be interesting to see u cover some A24 films
We Need SHAZAM vs Black Adam movie
Story - Shazam
Action - Shazam 2
Horror - Shazam
Villains - Shazam 2
The Acyor playing Dr Sivana did a GREAT job, however he reminded me of a knock off of Lex Luthor in that hes bald and is Jealous/Envious of Supermans power.
Overall the Atlas Daughters with their army of mythical monsters seemed like a bigger threat which is why I gave the point to shazam 2
So while it comes to a draw, I have to give an extra point for the 1st movie as that overall just seemed funnier to me, and while the sequel did have some good jokes that worked, I didn't think they were as funny as the 1st.
As for issues
Tbh it's usually the older movies that are better instead of the new ones being better
Hey Eric! Can you make the last of us part 1 Vs the last of us part 2?
I would give shazam 1 a 9.9
I would give Shazam 2 a 9.5
shazam 8.5/10
shazam fury of the gods 4.5/10
This video actually convinced me to go and watch Shazam 2, I skip that one after been so terribly dissapointing with recent Super Hero films (cof, cof Marvel Films Cof, Cof) and watching so many reviews bashing the film, but like you absolutely loved Shazam 1, seen that you also liked the sequel, make me realize I probably need to go watch that film..........sadly will be in home, the movie is long go from my locals theaters.
I prefer campy horror and fantastical dark and gritty
Lighthearted movies are fun and dandy, moreso than action-packed and intense movies. But we sure loved Shazam (2019) when we watched it weeks ago, I love superheroes and I am inspired by watching them, despite knowing I'm not like those brave individuals.
