There’s something about the way he moves with that lightsaber that is visually interesting and says a lot more about his character than I think was intended
His character is mentally a mess and unstable just like his kyber crystal which is unstable, when he is Ben solo again in ep9 he fights much more refined since he is fully in the light
I honestly figure it's a combination of being Han's son and his training with Luke and Snoke. The blaster/dodging/physicality of it make me imagine Han teaching a little Ben his to throw a punch or wrestle and the sword technique, obviously, comes from the Force training. The way he combines them makes his fighting style very interesting to watch. Admittedly, the Duel of the Fates from Episode I is still probably my favorite duel in the entire series, but I do like Kylo/Ben's fighting style. And for all the 'Rey kicks his ass all the time' comments, I spotted at least two points in duel in his quarters and even more on the Death Star where he could have easily killed her, but he didn't make the strike. That's not even counting the times he could have taken the hit on Starkiller. And since we can see his reflexes are not exactly 'slow' it's not that he couldn't have, he chose not to. Read into that what you will.
@@fts166 i wish i could see what a blood lusted kylo fights like. when he's not conflicted about who he's killing he probably goes batshit crazy lmaooo

I agree & I also think the style of his lightsaber also plays a huge role in his fighting style. It’s very unique and I loved seeing his fighting style change when he used the blue one.

Best character in the series? 😂 He's good for a watered down post prequel / original era but would've never been able to take own an in prime Luke pre injury Vader palpatine or Yoda
I guess a lot of people don’t give Driver credit where it’s due, his style is very intentional. He’s pretty much handling the lightsaber like it’s a 2 handed great sword. Large, sweeping cuts with lots of momentum, which is why he dominates the fights in the first movie. But although he is “open” he is very agile to compensate for that and he uses his guard on his lightsaber a lot. Just a shame that apparently all that goes out the window after the first movie and everyone can suddenly fight the sword style that focuses on being oppressive and block his blows with ease. Like bruh, he has one of the most enjoyable styles to watch if you know what you’re looking at. Sure he looks “goofy” but you would too if you swung with momentum and in the style he did. Props to Driver for nailing that style. Too bad Kylo’s writing sucks
Yeah, I don't think it's necessarily bad either, it's just that they wanted to, for whatever stupid reason, make his lightsaber seem weighty, and he also has to be more careful because of the cross guard, so he makes these heavy looking clumsy swings like he's trying to swing a zweihander one handed. You see at the end one though, when he has that regular lightsaber from Rey he's a lot more energetic with it.
Well if you look carefully, he wield it like its a crossguard longsword which is the traditional swords that knights used and kylo ren is using the same techniques.@@furyassassin

Good to see all the positive Kylo comments here. I’m old enough to have memories of seeing the original SW in the theater as a small child. SW has been part of my entire life experience and imho Kylo Ren is one of the greatest characters of any era. Much respect to Adam Driver and the writers.
People sometimes knock the cross guard lightsaber, but personally after watching SW clone wars, and just visiting the films & OG..again I think that is one of the coolest lightsaber designs ever, because of the fact that the user does risk injury! I think thats what people didn't like actually. Lightsabres are supposed to weigh nothing, and in the original and prequels they moved very fast and spun at times, and there it made sense since they weigh nothing.

Kylo with his mask is portrayed as a wild beast attacking its prey, especially with the groan or roar you hear when he freezes finn near the beginning just adds to the factor. If he never or atleast rarely took off his helmet, he would've likely been a far more fearful character. This is all without the fact his suit makes him look shady and mysterious, along with the dark attire of his suit allowing him to seeming blend in with the dark environments he usually fights in. I genuinely believe he could've rivalled or even surpassed Vader if he was done correctly, which he wasn't unfortunately 😐
this character might be very disappointing, but wow his lightsaber style matches him so much. his lightsaber style is purely based on power and control. my favorite part is 1:02 which shows that.
People were complaining about the lightsaber fighting in this but at the same time people complained with all the acrobatics from before and were intrigued with how detailed the fighting was in the obi wan series saying how realistic it was. This lightsaber fighting was basically the same as the obi wan series. So at this point people are just nit picking. Kylo to me was the highlight of this series. I just wish they had of leaned more to him being just plain evil vs him being what he was.
Kylo Ren does look very cool, but he will never be as intimidating as Vader. In every scene, just picture Vader, and look how much cooler the scene becomes.
Did you watch the same character? His style is literally reckless. He sacrifices defense for a powerful offense. It was an intentional choice to have him fight that way. He makes big broad powerful swings that leave himself open, but his enemies would have to sacrifice themselves to take the opportunity. Raw aggression.
@@SircoleYT That's literally what Form V (Djem So) is in canon though lol. Anakin was literally a master in its practice and Luke used the same Form against Vader in episode 6. It's entire premise is to overwhelm the opponent with a large volume of powerful attacks.
Adam did all he could to save the character. An absolute shame they wasted such talent. Could have been the greatest villain on screen in the SW universe.
I think I understand why the fights are so much more slower than the originals, it’s because they both use the same fighting style in which they use strong slow strikes.
I think it’s also due to adjusting to the saber weight. Ie rey looking like she can barely swing it. When kylo uses his tri saber it looks heavy when he swings it even though it’s mixed with his style, vs when he uses the blue saber his finesse is off the charts.
Virgin Rey: Grunts with every swing, has no fighting form, actually lost both times. Gigachad Kylo Ren: Doesn't grunt at all, uses form V, would've convincingly won both times if he wasn't conflicted.
7-8 should’ve been the transition of Kylo Ren & Rey getting closer and to gain more feelings towards one another. Then 9 would’ve been the movie of Kylo going back to Ben to help Rey destroy the First Order together. Then Palpatine wouldn’t have been needed honestly and would’ve just focus more on Snoke.
He sacrificed himself to save his comrade and buy him time, sure it failed but the Praetorian guards have the utmost loyalty to each other and to the supreme leader even after his death
Honestly I love kylo ren more than any character in star wars he is a half villain hes got a cool crackling sound lightsaber and a badass cloaked and helmet and the way he moves is just fantastic even though he doesn't have a force that's as strong as Vader for me he hes my number character in star wars cuz he just f**king amazing
Before the movie ended I had a dream in my head that Kylo would go to the light and Sideous convinces Rey to the dark so in the end they would have epic battles as bitter rivals with the roles reversed, but alas.
I saw a concept of Ben Solo, in Jedi armor with a green crossguard saber. It should have ended the other way around, Ben turning to save Rey and defeat Palpatine, and then saving Rey to give her the chance to change the name. So bad how they tried to make a Palpatine a chosen one
It amazes me how people say he's a bad duelist. He straight up carried the Throne Room fight, and did pretty well, he *dominates* in the duel with Finn in TFA and his encounters with Rey in TRoS, and then in the forest he literally lost because, ignoring the mental and emotional trauma he had just self-inflicted (and don't give me that 'he's dark sider' bollocks, he's not *Sith*, and even Vader - a Sith - struggled with mental health after Mustafar), he'd been stabbed by Finn and tanked a shot with a weapon shown to cause fully armored stormtroopers to do *backflips* before he had ever engaged Rey. She got *lucky* in that fight.
I think someone intended Finn to be the protagonist in the sequel trilogy, but someone killed that idea at Disney during production. Something about the way Kylo interected with him in that first movie seems like that might've been the case
Bro Finn got balls and a half for picking up that lightsaber man had no training no skill didn’t even know how to use proper and still tried Finn was honestly one of the best characters
I’m sorry but the scene on Takodana where Rey meets Kylo for the first time should be enough for people to stop crying about the Rey trilogy. It’s amazing and everyone loves Kylo, but hate rey. I don’t get it. Daisy has done a massive job channeling that fear of being cornered in the forest by a dark force sensitive in a mask, who has just froze me. Adam drivers physicality when using the cross guard saber. Chefs kiss.
Ok ill admit ive never seen the sequels, kylos casting is damn good, that lightsaber is amazing, the rage is too intense though, its like a padawan struggling with personal sensations brought up by injustices experianced in childhood, and noone was there to teach and guide him to overcome.. but, in my mind kylo needed to be the unstoppable force that vader was. Or were they trying to create an Anakin Skywalker struggling with emotion and sensation manifesting itself?
I love Kylo/Solo! Best character in the sequel trilogy but honestly Finn is awesome & even Hux, Poe, Rose, Rey there's a lot of good stuff in there, it just needed a happier ending for some, and a bit more character growth for others and more writer attention. Like forget Dark Horse they should have introduced some Vong or Evil Hutt Empire, or what about Prince Xizor, or the Dino race in Bakurra, crazy old C'baoth! I love the characters they introduced...just wish there was more time with them. They needed to keep the book 'open' so to speak with these new kids, not close it. That would have made all the difference!
Finn is great,is just a little strange that Finn can so easaly kill stormtrooper as an ex stormtrooper and they should give him a heroic death in the second movie! But i am hapoy overall with the movies
I think it would be cool if they focus on a dark side user like kylo getting slowly more into the light side since we’ve had the last few films about lightsiders getting pulled to the dark side
watching rey fight in comparison to kylo is just sad dude she looks like she's struggling and gonna lose every second while kylo looks like he's in control and the dominating force for most of his fights until plot kicks him down. no elegance, all these heavy swings like wild haymakers praying
He's not really weak, it's more so compared to Rey, he's basically outclassed. He's stomps on anything that isn't a jedi, and really the only time we seem him truly struggle is with Rey. Well, also that one red knight guard that started choking him, but prior to that he literally let go of his saber for no reason so tl:dr because a shit script. Kylo was pretty cool, and I was hoping he would've been like Anakin if he didn't lose his limbs, but alas all we got was a young luke with anger and daddy issues.
Idk if everyone else agrees with me when I say this, but personally I thought force awakens was an okay movie. Sure, it could have been (a lot) better, but I thought that it would take a completely different path with the following movies. They had potential with force awakens but then they messed everything up. Kylo ren is the best character from 7-9
If you think the issue with these movies were the point of view, you're just misogynistic; Maybe subconsciously. There was nothing wrong with Rey as a character. There were many things wrong with the story and plot. Changing things to see this story from a male perspective would not have fixed that in the slightest. Especially considering we do see it from his perspective for a good portion of the films. Just further goes to show what your subconscious is really thinking.
@@SircoleYT Personally, I feel like Rey: 1. Was too overpowered too soon, and won too many fights with too little experience 2. Lacked any decent character traits apart from "female warrior" traits 3. Didn't need to be a Palpatine; that felt very improvized and rushed. 4. Didn't go through enough struggles, physically or emotionally. 5. Had a fighting style that didn't reflect her physique. I'm a muscular dude and I would fight like Rey. She should be a lot more careful and have more finesse to make up for Ridley's ectomorph body and lack of physical power. But she didn't. Those are just the things I can think of off the top of my head. I'm sure there are more, but that's just my 2 cents. 👍
@@Solomon_CAgreed, she had no development or real experience and already seemed to master it. No build up to her arc and she was too overpowered unnecessarily as well.
Hot take, but I think that the duels in this movie were way better than the prequels, the duels in the prequel trilogy were fast paced however, it seemed as if they were only trying to attack each others lightsabers and not their opponent. While in the sequels you can clearly see the attacker and the defender and also clearly see the flow of the fight instead of just a bunch of quick lightsaber strikes

This lightsaber fighting was basically the same as the obi wan series. So at this point people are just nit picking. Kylo to me was the highlight of this series. I just wish they had of leaned more to him being just plain evil vs him being what he was.
Probably the only badass character of the new trilogy. I like his story
0:50 “that lightsaber, it belongs to me.”
Kylo Ren does look very cool, but he will never be as intimidating as Vader. In every scene, just picture Vader, and look how much cooler the scene becomes.
i like kylo because he s so destroyed
I think he learned that the hard way.
Yeah well Vader is a seven foot metal man
honestly impressive how his fighting skill is shown, hes very calculating and careful
Did you watch the same character? His style is literally reckless. He sacrifices defense for a powerful offense. It was an intentional choice to have him fight that way. He makes big broad powerful swings that leave himself open, but his enemies would have to sacrifice themselves to take the opportunity. Raw aggression.
@@SircoleYT sounds like a planned tactic lol
@@SircoleYT That's literally what Form V (Djem So) is in canon though lol. Anakin was literally a master in its practice and Luke used the same Form against Vader in episode 6. It's entire premise is to overwhelm the opponent with a large volume of powerful attacks.
The gesture he makes at 5:59 after getting reys sword is SOOOOO Funny AHAHAHAHAH
Kinda like Obi Wan “well hello there” but more villainy
He’s definitely a Solo
Adam did all he could to save the character. An absolute shame they wasted such talent. Could have been the greatest villain on screen in the SW universe.
I think I understand why the fights are so much more slower than the originals, it’s because they both use the same fighting style in which they use strong slow strikes.
I think it’s also due to adjusting to the saber weight. Ie rey looking like she can barely swing it. When kylo uses his tri saber it looks heavy when he swings it even though it’s mixed with his style, vs when he uses the blue saber his finesse is off the charts.
"Sure, Jan"
When he was faster and more agile with the lighter lightsaber. Makes sense.
I was just saying this I think the tri saber is heavier kinda like a knights blade
Virgin Rey: Grunts with every swing, has no fighting form, actually lost both times.
Gigachad Kylo Ren: Doesn't grunt at all, uses form V, would've convincingly won both times if he wasn't conflicted.
Kylo is the only good thing to come out of the sequels
7-8 should’ve been the transition of Kylo Ren & Rey getting closer and to gain more feelings towards one another. Then 9 would’ve been the movie of Kylo going back to Ben to help Rey destroy the First Order together. Then Palpatine wouldn’t have been needed honestly and would’ve just focus more on Snoke.
Love the patoreon guard who just comes up to him with his arms parallel to block like that was gonna do something
He sacrificed himself to save his comrade and buy him time, sure it failed but the Praetorian guards have the utmost loyalty to each other and to the supreme leader even after his death
Cool lightsaber but still hate how Disney made it look like a heavy baseball bat
Long live SUPREME LEADER REN ♦️‼️
Before the movie ended I had a dream in my head that Kylo would go to the light and Sideous convinces Rey to the dark so in the end they would have epic battles as bitter rivals with the roles reversed, but alas.
that's superb idea
That’s what was hoping too. I wanted Kyle Ren to continue the Skywalker lineage.
Kylo Ren is badass
Fans:”the prequels(s’ duels )suck
Me:STAR WARS IS STAR WARS/DUELS ARE DUELS
His short time in the light side as Ben was such a cool character. I wish we saw more of that
Lightsaber: cuts trees clean in half
Also lightsaber:
minor back burn/cut.
I love Kylo's battle stance
I love how Rens lightsaber swings like it weighs 100 pounds
Kylo deserved so much better! He should have lived and rebuilt the Jedi and called him Ben Skywalker (A nice nod to Ben Skywalker from Legends).
Watching these fights back I realize I was an easy child to please
I saw a concept of Ben Solo, in Jedi armor with a green crossguard saber. It should have ended the other way around, Ben turning to save Rey and defeat Palpatine, and then saving Rey to give her the chance to change the name. So bad how they tried to make a Palpatine a chosen one
Kylo Ren is the only reason why i watched the sequel trilogy
0:45 that scream🤣
The only good choreography in the sequels is the small fight between Finn and Kylo. Actually looks like real swordfighting not baseball bat swinging.
I think someone intended Finn to be the protagonist in the sequel trilogy, but someone killed that idea at Disney during production. Something about the way Kylo interected with him in that first movie seems like that might've been the case
bro Kyle Ren has to be one of the most underrated Star Wars villains
He was barely a villain
Adam Driver is to the sequels what Ewan McGregor was to the Prequels
Rey: The good spammer
Kylo ren: Nice reflexes
Chefs kiss.
Ahh, Kylo Ren, the protagonist of the sequel trilogy.
I really want to see more seems of Kylo Ren😢
Ok ill admit ive never seen the sequels, kylos casting is damn good, that lightsaber is amazing, the rage is too intense though, its like a padawan struggling with personal sensations brought up by injustices experianced in childhood, and noone was there to teach and guide him to overcome.. but, in my mind kylo needed to be the unstoppable force that vader was. Or were they trying to create an Anakin Skywalker struggling with emotion and sensation manifesting itself?
they kinda tried doing both for kylo, the conflicting nature of anakin and the dark brutality of vader in one character
Me fantasizing about having a lightsaber for lumberjacking purposes.
I wish they made Ben Solo the main Protagonist in this story, as well as improved his fighting style more
00:30 "THAT OLD MAN IS MAD!"
5:40 The fact that Rey really thought she could beat Anakin's grandson is still so crazy to me lmaoooo
I mean she did beat him once before
@@marlenewilson5939 yeah cuz disney love rey😂
How it should have went in Force Awakens with Luke showing up to save her not in the final installment.
@@johnboko7110 Remember, men can't save women anymore. That's illegal
His movements are so clunky yet aggressive.
0:50 This scene should’ve been Finn’s moment.
I think it would be cool if they focus on a dark side user like kylo getting slowly more into the light side since we’ve had the last few films about lightsiders getting pulled to the dark side
watching rey fight in comparison to kylo is just sad dude
she looks like she's struggling and gonna lose every second while kylo looks like he's in control and the dominating force for most of his fights until plot kicks him down. no elegance, all these heavy swings like wild haymakers praying
Still baffles me how rey defeated a fully trained kylo with no training at all
Why does Kylo ren feel so weak? He got trained by Luke and he was a skywalker….
because they wrote the story like some 10 years old kid.
@@Yetizada Thankyou
I think he didnt complete his training with Luke? he was still like a young padawan when Luke discovered his dark side, no?
He's not really weak, it's more so compared to Rey, he's basically outclassed. He's stomps on anything that isn't a jedi, and really the only time we seem him truly struggle is with Rey. Well, also that one red knight guard that started choking him, but prior to that he literally let go of his saber for no reason so tl:dr because a shit script. Kylo was pretty cool, and I was hoping he would've been like Anakin if he didn't lose his limbs, but alas all we got was a young luke with anger and daddy issues.
@@kapalshiuu yeah plus luke is a wack ass weak ass character anyways.
Idk if everyone else agrees with me when I say this, but personally I thought force awakens was an okay movie. Sure, it could have been (a lot) better, but I thought that it would take a completely different path with the following movies. They had potential with force awakens but then they messed everything up. Kylo ren is the best character from 7-9
Kylo is the goat
Imagine if Kylo was the main POV character of the sequel trilogy....
@@SircoleYT Personally, I feel like Rey:
1. Was too overpowered too soon, and won too many fights with too little experience
2. Lacked any decent character traits apart from "female warrior" traits
@@DeBoto84 Yep, she could have been a good character, but the writers wrote her very lazily.
If they made the storyline actually good kylo would of been an even cooler character
kylo is a amazing
Kylo ren should of taken off the mask for the first time when confronting Solo, not Rey
He did we never saw his face until he was confronted by Han
@axelnilsson5124 re watch the film, he took it off when interrogating Rey, before confronting Han Solo
@@Raad187KO I guess that just shows how forgettable that scene was
@@axelnilsson5124 i see what you're saying 😂😂
The Force Awakans is the only good sequel. It was such a decent start but then Last Jedi fucked it all up
Hot take, but I think that the duels in this movie were way better than the prequels, the duels in the prequel trilogy were fast paced however, it seemed as if they were only trying to attack each others lightsabers and not their opponent. While in the sequels you can clearly see the attacker and the defender and also clearly see the flow of the fight instead of just a bunch of quick lightsaber strikes
Kylo ❤️
This like a compilation of grunts, light sabers and “REY!!”
