- Picked up this kayak from walmart, along with the pump, and the skeg for a few dollars more from Amazon. Took 5 mins or so to inflate and get on the water. Not too sure about the skeg as it only had an inch in the water when my wife was by herself (~100lbs) so you probably need more balast.
Was great with me and my kid, about 270lbs total, got some nice speed out of it, and was fun.
you did great, I bet I will have to take a break to finish pumping it up, im going to buy one today, again thank you for your help.
I am definitely interested in this particular model. I have had one of their smaller 1 person kayaks for years and I have done white water with it without any issue. Never owned or needed a speg for my smaller one and I never had any issue with spinning or anything similar. I have to say one thing about it though is my friends who are used to rigid body kayaks were not really so fond of it because it handles differently and is more a matter of familiarity then fault. I also had a similar learning curve with a rigid body kayak the first time I tried one. I have to say I do have alot of respect for Sevylor products and I have yet to have one fail me. Then again they are also known for making the very tough white water rafts so they know how to make inflatables that are tough and durable.
Thank you so much for doing this demonstration video. I'm considering purchasing this due to your fine review.
Yeah, that would be cool. Thanks to this I purchased the kayak! I'm still considering on getting the skeg, since I weigh 140, it would be nice if you could get the video done before it gets too cold!
Sure there's better material inflatable kayaks out there. No doubt about it. But as far as portability, back packability and ease of use. Nothing beats the Sevilor Tahitis and Fiji models. This is a Kayak you could take anywhere
Awesome, pleased its been useful for you. There are pro's: easy to transport and store, and cons : Pain to inflate / deflate. In my case the pro's far outweigh the negative. They sit happily on the shelve and I dont have to have a trailer / mess with roof races to get out on the lake. Thanks for watching and taking time to comment.
I love it, its great, just like a fiberglass one once you're in the water.
It's pretty light in the water and there's flexibility to it, which makes it quite workable in the shallows, partucularly when navigating through stuff... I'm taking mine in some whitewater (just class 1-2) as soon as we get a bit of rain here to get the water white :)
No worries.
Look forward to it.
Cheers
Stephen
Don't know where, you're at but its already cold around these parts .. Missouri. That being said, I just went to the lake to check out the difference with the skeg / without the skeg, and got nabbed by a ranger, just as I was putting in. Turns out that I needed a permit to put it in the lake. To get the permit I needed a copy of my property tax reciept... lol so I gave up as I ran out of time. I'll see if I can get it done another day this week.
I would recommend you give it a go yourself though .. Im sure you're fine, as long as there isnt a gale blowing. My wife who weighs ~100lbs, didn't displace the kayak enough for the skeg to even touch the water, and she had full control, and it was fairly blustery on the lake.
This video confirms that the 2 boats I bought were made backwards. On mine, the drain hole is at the opposite end of the skeg support ring/bracket and has always confused me. Now what do I do?
Weighs the same as my 6 person tent (Coleman Red Canyon) @ about 25 pounds, and a similar size, so you shouldn't have too many problems backpacking it. Make sure you use one of those reverse valve pumps (like I used) so you can pump the air out of it when you're done. Thanks for the question, and watching. I've actually got a couple of video's I took with it on a pond over the summer, I'll try and upload them in the next few days.
Did the boat have a hull number, or serial number? In PA we have to have documentation for a "launch permit".
No, you just put none in the permit application.
No it doesn't sorry if I didn't make that clear in the video, i'll do a anotation. They're easy to get, just bing/google 'sevylor tahiti skeg' you should be able to pick one up for around $20+$10 shipping. Thanks for the useful comment.
awesome video dude
Thanks. Look forward to it. Cheers.
How I love RUclips! I just got a Tahiti and couldn’t figure out why my battery operated pump wasn’t working. I didn’t pull out the lanyard 🥴
Nice video! It's a lot easier to get the skeg in while the air chambers are still deflated. :-)
How well do you think this material will resist against a fishing needle? How tough is the material?
How heavy is it, would it be possible to put it in or strap it to a backpack for a hike in the woods?
Thanks, definitely a lot easier to do it before inflation. Thanks for watching and taking time to contribute a useful comment !
After using the kayak with the skeg, though, I'm really not too sure how much it helps. I've read reviews where people are spinning like crazy without it, but if you're a seasoned kayaker, as you can just compensate with paddling against any rotation. I think you can get away without it, well if like me you weigh 200lbs+ lol... I should make a video with / without a skeg. Thanks again
Howmdeep does this thing go....go on the bottom? Willmit navigate knee deep water without scraping?
GREAT VIDEO
Does the skeg come with the boat?
Looks like you were pumped out too after you've pump the first seat lol...
Thanks for watching, and taking time to comment Stephen. Sorry I didn't do any video's of it in the water. I'll get to it and make a few extra videos of how it performs in the water, particularly if we get some long needed rains here soon ...
An honest review about inflation/deflation, but we don't see the craft in the water or its characteristics. What a shame.
I was thinking of getting an inflatable kayak but after watching this i`m not too sure now...!!!
Steve Higgins I have an inflatable kayak and I love it, great for any river or lake even the sea, I have an intex explorer k2, they are much better, I love it, i originally bought it for me and my girlfriend, and it amazing, inflates in 5 mins and packs away in just over 5 mins
The box measures?
Thats what being 70lbs overweight will do to a man !! And I thought I was doing pretty good :) Thanks for watching and taking time to comment.
Where did you but it?
Is it good for fishing?
What if it punctures in the middle of the lake????
Thanks for watching, and the comment. Then you're going to be dependent upon that life vest you're wearing!@. As you can see there are 3 separate main compartments so if you get a puncture there will be buoyancy to keep you afloat. But as long as you're careful it's not going to happen. Don't take anything sharp with you, and pray you don't run into anything submerged. I haven't had any problems with them myself. Biggest problem I have with it is the $30 per year license to use it on the lakes here around me :(
About as good as a milk carton. The point is its easy to repair and patch. Mine does well scraping over rocks in our local river... and I know ppl use these for fishing trips as well.
Nice
I can see it is not easy to do!!! There you go!!!kkkkk
Fit the skeg before fully inflating.
whats the fin called and where can i get it
