Be warned. This thing is EXPENSIVE. OK, it's not the most expensive overdrive pedal I've seen, but still. So, Mateus Asato has a signature overdrive. What kind of sounds do you get from it? Is it good? With that price tag, it better be.
Enjoy!

The gear I most often use (the links are affiliate links).
A Stratocaster of some kind, either an Yngwie Malmsteen Strat, such as this: www.thomann.de...
or a custom Strat with a scalloped fretboard.
For 7 string stuff I mostly use an Ibanez Universe.
A Marshall 1987x: www.thomann.de...
Marshall Cab with 30 Watt Celestions: www.thomann.de...
I used to use a Fender Yngwie Malmsteen Overdrive, but these days I use a Strymon Riverside: www.thomann.de...
Boss NS-2 noise gate: www.thomann.de...
Strymon Sunset: www.thomann.de...
A Morley Bad Horsie 2 wah: www.thomann.de...
Strymon Timeline delay: www.thomann.de...
Or a TC Electronic Flashback Mini: www.thomann.de...
An AKG C-414 mic: www.thomann.de...
The patch cables on my pedalboard are these: www.thomann.de...
Pedaltrain Novo 24: www.thomann.de...
For acoustic stuff I use a Taylor 710 short scale thingy.
You did get some smooth sounding sounds out of that pedal. Being just a beginner guitarist and not fully in tune with the thinking of musicians, it amazes me sometimes that people can spend a lot of money on a guitar pedal to make their guitar not sound like a guitar. Thanks for the video.
And thank you :)
Great review. I picked up a "scratch and dent" model for 220 USD and I love it. For that price, I definitely think it's worth it. Similar to you, I think some of the best tones come from the overdrive section of the pedal.
Seems very versatile. Different types of distortion modes gives you a better chance to find the tone you want. I generally don't use much distortion these days. I prefer the amp distortion. When using a looper I sometimes use distortion because the amp has to be clean.
It is fairly versatile.
Interesting pedal, thank you for the review.
I do like that it has a combined OD and Distortion if for no other reason its convenient.
These days I find myself gravitating towards a more simpler setup/rig as well as keeping all my pedals pure analog design.
Yeah, simple is often better.
My pedal is microphonic exactly the same as yours. You can hear when tapping it at high gain.
A bit weird for a pedal this price.
There's so many pedals now that do the same thing. So how to differentiate? Hmmmm well I guess make it ridiculously expensive.
Ah well fools and their money.
Haha :D
Are there though? I’ve not seen one that does what this does, and for $250 it’s pretty stellar. 2 pedals in one plus gain cycling and midi control? And the ability to swap distortion circuits? Show me another pedal that does that lol
Good catch on the actual enclosure being microphonic. That's a huge no-no from a design perspective. Thanks for sharing this video with us, as always, great work.
Glad it was helpful!
Overdrive sounds good. Distortion on 25% sounded the best imo. For the price you get two pedals in one plus quite possibilities to mess with. The overdrive with more gain sounds great. At the end I think I would pick strymon instead.
Yeah, me too.
I just spent about 2 days testing this pedal. This is not only the worst pedal I played but it is BY FAR the worst pedal I came across. The overdrive is OK, but any pedal can do what this overdrive does. The distortion is the worst thing I ever played...i could feel my frustration in this review, which by is pretty good review btw and translates well. I think the respect for the guitarist who designed this pedal speaks more than the actual truth about the pedal itself
Yep Elmo, you're right bud, no way could I get that one, the hollow box sound would destroy a track for the studio/live show applications:( Which sucks because you had that thing screaming. Has nice tones though besides that major mishap.
🤘🎸❤...great review and demo
Thanks!
I got this pedal used for $250 last month and that’s definitely the most id want to pay for it definitely not $400-450
Yeah, it is a bit much.
It's a sick pedal. Wow. Would not give up my Bogner Ecstasy Red or Blue or my Biyang X-Drive (TS808 ish) but if I came into money I would be all over it. Hate Jackson Audio customer service or lack of. But I might give this a try
Hadn't heard about their customer service.

I do love the gain cycling and I do hear a difference in the clipping modes personally. Would you hear that in a band? Depends on many factors obviously. I do think they put a lot of thought into their products especially with how the volume remains consistent through the different clipping options and gain cycles. That is something other builders haven’t been the best at. In the end, nice demo and perspectives. Beautiful playing. I think the pedal is absolutely worth it used price of around 200 American dollars or less if you need an overdrive and distortion in one box. Also the other boxes I’ve tried are not as microphonic as yours so I’m thinking you ask Jackson Audio what’s up and see what they say.
400 Euros, blimey that is a lot of money on 1 pedal. Yes the Riverside would be my choice. But hell yeah I could get away with a Boss Blues Driver and a SD1 and still get the gig done for 1/4 of the price and be happy on the way home. I would rather throw my money at the amp. As always thank you for an honest review.
And thank you :)
I haven’t been intrigued by any of these Jackson audio pedals. They all seem to do a lot but the sounds I hear don’t impress me esp for the price.
Can't say about the others, but this one did fall a bit flat.
@@MrPolevaulter I’ve never played with one myself. I watched all the Sweetwater videos when they came out and I was just confused. Why the hype? They sound ok. Nothing mind blowing though. They probably have a great profit margin so they get the big push.
Thank you for your work. 👍 This pedal is not for me. I have the Tumnus delux and a Logan. Realy love the Logan.
Fair enough!
Mine is on its way 😁😁. Btw, can you share your setting on your Boss NS2 and where do you put it in the signal chain? Thank you man 🙌🙌. Stay safe!
Not worth the price imo. You could get 3 different gain pedal types from great companies and run them in series for less. I use a DOD250 and a Wampler Pantheon together for my dirt sound and switch off the Pantheon for a cleanish sound. Pretty darn happy with the results. Sounds better than €400. Of course, your experience may vary. Too many builders out there trying to put too much in one box and not getting a great sound.
The pedal sounds good but not good enough to pay that price.
Always enjoy your vids, Elmo.
The major "I'll See the Light Tonight" was brilliant!!!!!!!
Cheers :)
Hey Elmo, just wondering if you could take a look at the valeton dapper mdr (80€) or at the Jimi Hendrix 69 fuzz face (JHW1 150€). I hope you’re having a great day.
Cheers from France !
Merci beaucoup! Not sure. I have so much planned. I might at some point.
Good review, video. It's a solution to a non existent problem. I would just buy the type of clipping over drive I want in the first place. 🤣 Plus, it's just too much money. Your fender over drive sounded just as good to me.
Have you done a review of that wonderful mess boogie amp get?
What noise suppressor do you use may I ask?
Be well my friend. Hope all is well sir.
Boss NS-2. All is well, hope you're too :)
Definitely not a $400 pedal in my book and actually I believe it's more than that so no thanks. I can buy a line 6 pod go for right around that price and it does a whole lot more. Just checked the price out and it's $349 brand new here in the U.S. so that's not too bad but still not my cup of tea.
I’ve not seen them for $400. They’re going for $350 new and about $250 used
In Europe they're 400 euros, which is actually just under 480 US dollars at current conversion rates.
Thank you so much for this. I was tempted to replace (and re-sell to limit the bleeding...) three or four pedals with the ASABI, given that my actual distortion comes from the interaction of OCD+'78 badass or Russian Big muff+'78 badass and then mainly the spark for gain and a noise gate, of course... Did you get a chance to try the ASABI with humbuckers? And if so, any difference for you?
Didn't, no.
Hi Elmo, You should really try the Origin Revival drive compact. This is a great pedal!!
Maybe one day. I have tons already filmed and planned though.
Nice and descent review. It's not even the price why this "toy" is not for me. There's just too much to choose from. Distortion, overdrive, overdrive, distortion...which one? I just want to set my pedals and amp and leave it. I'm a guitarist, not a tapdancer.
By the way, hope you had a good Eastern.....
Fair enough! Yeah, Easter was good. Hope you had a good one too :)
@@MrPolevaulter Easter has been good, thank you. Even with snow! (And in the Netherlands that's a rarity nowadays)
Hi from Mexico, can you recommend me a good OD/DIST pedal alternative please.
Depends on your taste.
Elmo, I have EMG single coils, and on their own, they are pretty much silent. However, I have the DG20 controls (EXG expander, and SPC mid boost) which introduce some hiss when idle (i.e., not playing). Would you suggest a Boss NS-2 or MXR Smart Gate?
Haven't tried the MXR, so can't really say. I like the Boss though.
The pedal dont sound bad
True.
Yeah, it is really a bad pedal, I regred to buy it... I prefer the Golden Boy

Definitely not my cup of tea at all. And at that price it should also take my kids to daycare and empty the dishwasher.
Haha :D Taking the kids to daycare should be introduced into pedals :D
Shredding does absolutely nothing for a demo
too complex to use out of a studio , imho.
and...
yeah...
way too expensive!!!
Yeah, the price is a bit much.
👍🏻👍🏻😎🎸🎶🤟🏻☮️❤️
