    I actually use regex in real work a lot and so I don't need this in the slightest, but I liked your video because I always recommend your stuff to people asking where to start. Regex seems like a topic that's not covered as well as others, so hoping you did a good job in this video!

      I don't know if you're reffering to the react course. If that's the case, I don't know. But if you're reffering to his web development bootcamp on udemy you don't need any javascript knowledge and it's a goddamned good course.

    Minor quibble: this is incorrect: "This RegEx will match any digit which is immediately followed by either a 1,2,3,7, or 9. Effectively, it looks for 2 digit odd numbers." --> think that should be 1, 3, 5, 7, 9

    \d[13579] gives only one match for the string 999. Shouldn't it give 2 matches(one for the first two and the other for the last two). Anyone ?

    • @ColtSteeleCode
      @ColtSteeleCode  5 лет назад +5

      avinmacha this is a great question! Regular expressions always “consume” any existing matches which means overlapping matches will be ignored. In your case, the first 99 is a match and those two characters are consumed. Then the remaining 9 is not a match on its own. There are ways of achieving what you are describing but it requires a bit more work. Check out this stack overflow post: stackoverflow.com/questions/20833295/how-can-i-match-overlapping-strings-with-regex/47184193

    I think just adding ^ at the front and $ at the back, the problem you showed gets solved: ^([01]?\d|2[0-3]):([0-5]\d)(?::([0-5]\d))?$
