    I don’t think it was as scary as it’s made out to be. However it is very creepy/unsettling. The film is a little too short. I wish they would added 20 to 30 extra minutes to the third act (it was very captivating). I’m definitely going to see it a second time because the family next to me kept talking and meowing whenever they saw a cat 😢

      I think the possession stuff was a little weak. Felt like a cop out. And mom I felt like could've been scarier/creepier. Because of that the 3rd act was a little disappointing. Wasn't the worst. But the movie overall was great. I wish more horror movies chose creepy over jump scares. This went above and beyond in that regard.

      @@thevastidity888 I myself understand why the explanation at the end was already warranted but we got more gruesome scenes via! My reading of why it’s not a 10 don’t include the ending. I actually thought Cage just went a bit comical for me at times. His capture was so silly and laughable I was just like wait what? Maybe the cliche chase down or swat invasion would been more interesting. This runtime actually was short and the pacing was quicker then I’d liked for how much story they tried to fit. So much detail which is great but man they squeezed a ton in this. I have way more positives than negatives on this vintage dark serial killer movie.

    Overhype is something I try not to get sucked into. Key word: Try. I believe the hype definitely hurt it. The press campaign has been selling it as the next elevated horror masterpiece on par with It Follows or Hereditary, which it isn't. I think I would have appreciated it more on its own terms : a decent effort to be added to Nick Cage's recent indie winning streak. Creepy atmosphere, good acting, intriguing story, but somewhat ruined by an abrupt, over-explained ending and the fact that the villain and the mystery around him was revealed too early, as well as a clumsy protagonist. Cage's performance was a mixed-bag also. The first shot of him, when you didn't see his eyes was intensely creepy, but as soon as you start seeing and hearing him as Nick Cage hamming it up, it becomes more funny than scary.

    • @juju-vl7oj
      @juju-vl7oj Месяц назад +1

      Better in what ways though? I would say Silence of the Lambs and Prisoners have more meat on the bone to dig into with the plot and characters but I feel like Longlegs is going for something a little different and it’s execution of that was equally if not more entertaining and immersive for me.
      But of course it’s subjective, so the level of immersion might be higher if you’re watching from the perspective of really analyzing the characters and trying to get into the mind of the serial killer .
      Not that I’m not into that aspect at all .Silence of the Lambs or Prisoners are great interesting movies but personally I’m more of a feeling or emotion based movie watcher if that makes sense?.. things like score/music , set design, mood , camera work will captivate me more and I’m not thinking so much about who each character is on deep level or what it all means.

    • @xtadamsx
      @xtadamsx Месяц назад +1

      @@juju-vl7oj I appreciate your perspective. I went to see it again last night for a second opinion. I will agree that although Longlegs shares similar DNA and imagery as SotL and Prisoners, you're right that it tries to be something different from those films.
      Longlegs feels more like a super-latenight grindhouse shock horror film, which after watching a few interviews of Oz, it seems like that was his goal. He wanted to start the story within familiar trappings, but then go off the rails into its own direction.
      That being said, I feel like the marketing went a little overboard for me. Although I respect Oz's intentions, the very nature of the setup begs comparison to what it's paying homage to.
      I love me some insane Nic Cage as well, but for me I kinda wish it was a lesser known actor under the prosthetics. When he started doing his typical Nic Cage yelling in the car, it lost me. I wasn't watching Longlegs, I was watching Nic Cage. But I also acknowledge that the movie wouldn't have been what it was without Nic Cage, so I'm kind of in a catch 22.
      At the end of the day, I just wish the marketing didn't prop the movie up as being one of the scariest films in the last decade, let alone in 2024. However, the film may have simply flown past my radar if it had not been marketed that way.

    I couldn’t finish the movie. It was super boring. It’s just me, but anything regarding demons or evil spirites are incredibly cheesy to me. The main character is interesting on how she’s tied up with the murderer, but it just wasn’t scaring me. Also I found the main villain to be really boring and lame. Like he looks like a crack addict and his whole thing being connected to the main character and black magic or whateves just wasn’t intimating. I think it’s just because I find it really difficult to be unsettled by anything that’s like evil sprites, making it less intimidating for me.
    I won’t sit here and say it’s not scary just because I wasn’t scared. It can be for others, I just want to know what made it unsettling for others because frankly, I don’t understand the hype or scare.

    This movie was overhyped and underperformed. Its not as smart as Silence of The Lambs, not as scary as Hereditary, not as gross or tense as Seven. If they never tried comparing it to those famous movies it may have come off better. the dolls were creepy, yes but Nick Cage? He was a just a weirdo creep. "Dad, that gross guy is in here again." I found not one likable character in the small cast. It reminds me of "The Little Things" but that was actually better. Both lacked a decent satisfying payoff. Too many plot armor points to some up the story.

    👎 Nicholas Cage delivers a delightfully maniacal performance as a serial killer, but unfortunately, he is not the main star of the movie. The rest of it is dogshit, reminiscent of a poor imitation of Se7en and Silence of the Lambs, with a story that unfolds so incoherently that it's forced to include a scene solely dedicated to explaining the plot of the movie.

The trailer was promising, hell the first 40min of the film was promising, but come on Nic cage isn’t even a serial killer he’s making possessed dolls that allows the devil to come into a home and cause the father to do a murder suicide? Absolutely ridiculous. Not scary at all and a waste of a potentially sickening murderer. They could have made him the blood thirsty heartless, demented psychopath (as portrayed in the trailer) and they went the paranormal route. Complete waste of time. And a complete waste of what could have been an iconic serial killer in long legs.

    Quit struggling to try and point out the remote positives of this movie and face it = garbage pile of a movie.
    I was excited to see it as well, so hyped up, and saw it last night on debut. @15 people for the night showing, and almost all were commenting to each other about how bad it was as they were leaving the theater. Complete strangers venting their disappointment to each other.
    I felt bamboozled for paying good money and taking the time and effort to see this movie in the theater. This was a big steamy turd. Good cinematography and era depiction, the only positive thing I have to say for Perkins on this. Not scary, Poor construct and pacing, this movie dragged so hard, BAD dialogue, scenes/actions that made absolutely no practical sense. Nic Cage doing typical Nic Cage cringy acting but in "serial killer" form. It was bad, and then he (she?) started talking, even worse. When the ACTUAL and HONEST reviews of people that truly saw this movie start flooding in you will see these reviews take a dive. Avoid at all costs. Hail Satan. Bang a Gong.
