Brilliant! So easy when you know how! This VW Polo is 11 years old now and I took it over from my mother-in-law a couple of years back, and this is the first battery change. I'm very impressed!! Thanks for this info, well done.
Excellent instructions! This is one of those things that is dead easy when you know how... When you don't, it's nice with help like this! Thanks for sharing!
You ROCK! I put this off for years, I was so afraid I'd mess up and have to bring it to the dealer. It took 5 minutes, including watching the video through one time.
Thank you so much!! I do have the new key and would never have guessed on my own how to open it....!!! Everything as explained and showed perfectly, thanks again.
For the old style fob. If you don't want to damage the side of the fob by using a metal screwdriver then instead run an old credit/ phone card along the groove on the back of the fob to pry the two sides apart.
Thanks, glad others goof as to getting things upside down., made me check it carefully. Couldnt find the detail in the original instruction booklet, only how to see it isnt working, and dispose the battery in a friendly manner.!!
Thank you so much this video is so helpful and easy. I didn't know there was two kind of remote "New and OLD" and when I watched the others video I ended up damaging the shell but you method was easy and efficient. Thank you again
ive brought new casing for my mk4 golf - took it apart to try change it over but the battery size was diferent so tried to change back to old one but now cant get it to work at all - what do you suggest????
Hi thanks for this informative video, I have two keys for my skoda on of which opens, closes and arms/disarms the alarm the correctly. However recently the other key will only lock the car and arm the alarm. it does not disarm the alarm or open the car anymore. Is this a battery issue ?
Thanks for the informative video, this is just what I needed. BTW, did you notice that at 2:11 you mentioned to ensure that you put the battery +ve side down, but then in the video, proceeded to put it in -ve side down? I mention this just in-case it confuses someone.
You don't need a screwdriver to remove the battery. Simply push firmly down at the very edge of the battery closest to the "VW" icon on the Key Fob, and it will "Pop" right out!!. This is a NITPICK, but if you don't have a screwdriver, NO WORRIES!
My fob has stopped working on my central locking / isn't opening the doors anymore unless I use the key manually. But when I press the buttons the red light still flashes, so presumably the battery isn't dead. Does that mean my fob isn't synched up to the car or something like that now? Just stopped working out of nowhere.
what vw cars come with a fob key? I want a polo but it seems it does not come with it.. or does it? or can I get it fitted or programmed? Im a bit lost, help please.
Hi, thanks for your question. Most Volkswagens in the last 5-7 years would have remotes apart from S trim level models. Going back further than that, you would need to check on the vehicle you're looking to buy. Hope that helps. Kindest regards, Team VWGenuineParts.co.uk
I've been "reliably" informed that there is a time limit on how long the battery may be removed from the fob before being replaced. Is this nonsense or is there any truth in it?
Hi John, we've only ever taken a battery out and fitted a new one straight away but I can't imagine it's an issue. Customers bring remotes to us that have been flat for ages and they're fine and don't need recoding. A dead battery is the same as no battery as far as I can see. If you're still concerned just have your fresh battery ready and swap them straight over. Hope that helps Sir! Kindest regards, Team VWGP

Thank you so much!! I do have the new key and would never have guessed on my own how to open it....!!! Everything as explained and showed perfectly, thanks again.
Second video worked a treat for my 2011 Yeti Key - can't believe how simple it was (when you know how...) Thanks
Thanks, you saved me a trip to the dealer. Would've felt silly going there to replace a battery.
Great, concise, and easy to follow instructions. Thank you guys, took me 3 minutes (VW=blue) to install in both remotes!
Great guide, does changing the battery reset your key tho? That's the concern I have from doing it.

Great stuff. Always good to see how its supposed to come apart before you start prying and breaking bits. My Remotes back working again

Very simple but somebody has to show you how. Thank you guys.

This worked perfectly although the first 20 seconds or so of trying it the car didn't respond but now it does lol cheers :)
Thanks for clear and accurate instructions
Thank you! Incredibly easy with your help.
Thanks, very helpful, I was about to use force....
Great video! I do have one more question though, how do i replace the whole case for the new style key fob?
thx
By changing the battery would I also need to reprogram the key? Or could I just put in the new battery and use it straight away?
Very good video instructions
Excellent thank you - would never have found it
FYI it can say DL 2032 it doesn't have to be CR 2032, As long as the number is correct and it also says 3V it will work just fine

Sounds like there's an issue with your remote :(
The red light indicates that the battery is okay. A trip to your dealer will sort it...
Very useful. Many thanks

thank you for getting back to me so quickly, great... so for example a polo made in 2008 should have one build in right?
Yes, it should have as long as it's not an S trim model.
