I love Chamorro food so much that I drove over 100 miles today just to have a little red rice and kelaguen. I really appreciate the effort you are putting into sharing your knowledge and culture with the world. I will definitely be trying several of your recipes! Thank you truly for all your hard work.
@@GuamMamaCooks It's quite far, but worth it to me! I live in Los Angeles, CA and there is no Chammoro food until you are nearly in San Diego. My favorite restaurant is just north of the American/Mexican border, but I would love to be able to cook at home. Thank you for the tip. I will look at the website.
Buenas Lydine! You can use regular masa, but not the same volume as in my recipe. Regular masa is very fine compared to the one I made (coarse). I've never made this with regular masa so I can't give exact measurement for it. This is a large quantity recipe so I'd first suggest cutting the entire recipe in half.....THEN start with 1/3 the amount of masa in the (halved) recipe and see how it thickens then add more if needed. Let me know how it goes!
Hafa Adai! I missed all the chamorro food i shared with my gatchung for 30+years , pamilyan Perez n Cruzof Sinajana, Mike Cruz of Maina , Padre Monsignor Calvo, Carlos n Zablan of Agana Hgts. and many many more. Tadya Fruie bat? Salamat po.
The only thing I did different was add a lot of coconut milk to the white part and a little bit to red part. Normally people just use all water/chicken stock.

You might want to try to look for a scoop that is 1/3 cup in size to make it faster to make the tamales.
Looks great, wonder how it compares to the ones in houston, tx...
If I can’t make my own. Is regular masa harina ok to use with your recipe?

Man I wish I had the time and pacience of my ancestors LOL 😮💨😮💨😮💨😂
This has to be the most complicated recipe for a side dish. You’ll be eating tamales gisu for months!!!
They stay good in the freezer till ready to steam.
If you know you know. We a big family.....
That's alot of oils 😮 and coconut milk. Is this recipe a chamorro version?

Damn thats too much ingredients and work to do lol
Yup it is, but once done, lots for the freezer!
