The 722 has been my EDC for the past 7 years and still performs like the day I took it out of the box. An awesome knife! No blade wobble, the finish is still perfect and takes an edge like you'd expect from a Buck knife.

Mine, the one in the video is still stiff. I’ve loosened the pivot screw and that is not the problem. Something in the back spring lock mechanism is rubbing. I will have to disassemble and investigate

I bought a 722 Spitfire in 2015 when they first came out and were right under $30. I returned it because I despised the spring bar design that supports the lockback lever. It's a thin and flat piece of metal and you could really feel it flexing under pressure from the contact with the lockback lever. You can grab the blade and wiggle it up and down and make the lockback lever tap on the springbar so there's a definite gap.

    • @JohnKlahr

I got a custom one last July as a birthday gift to myself. I want to upgrade my Buck 112 Slim Select. Used the spitfire less than a week. It’s a nice knife and all but it’s just not for me. It’s a “collector” and not a user. Definitely not worth the cost unless you want your own color combination. But the pocket clip is useless as is, the knife sticks out of your pocket to far. Also the 112 is more comfortable in my pocket and hand. The thumb stud works better than the hole. My hands hurt all the time and the 112 is easier to use as well. The $30ish 112 is a better value IMHO. If someone wants the 722 get the regular one first to see if you like it. If you want to pick your own colors go for the “custom.”

Just a heads up to others, Buck's 420hc heat treated blades represent great value if used for knife tasks. If used abusively to hammer through a nail like their emblem shows it'll break.
