Francis Poulenc (1899-1963) Sonate for violin + piano (1942-1943) Movement 1 : Allegro con fuoco Movement 2 : Intermezzo (très lent et calme) Movement 3 : Presto tragico
HenriVieuxtemps your videos are amazing and helpful, but I always miss the interpreters' names. Posting this without them is as wrong as posting it without composer's name. No musicians, no music to listen. I beg you to put them in future videos and also in this one 🙏🙏🙏
I love the climax at 3:10, this sudden dissonance gives me goosebumps. There are many elements in the style of Poulenc which make me believe he was exceptionally talented, he knows how to incorporate many styles of music in his own, romantic, modern etc in a very natural way.
Terribly sorry, but it's not the climax, it's probably more like the end of the 1st subject, but I would argue that the climax is this appassionato at 4:53
MANY thanks for posting this score! During my youth one critic disparaged the work saying, "There is a superfluity of material, and too much goes on." Well... it's not a tightly organized piece, and I would agree that the third movement is a bit scattershot. With that being said, and with my having seen the sheet music, I find that both instrumental parts are written more economical than I presumed, meaning we get impacts without a lot of unnecessary notes. I've listened to the second movement a thousand times - really, it's one of Poulenc's loveliest. As to this performance, the performers are spot-on with the interpretation, but the pianist has quite a few wrong notes (and I don't think's it a matter of using a superseded edition). This is why I LOVE exploring music on RUclips!
Si Ginette Neveu avez aidez lui ecrite cette ouvre, pour quoi sa etre pas disque? ( Especialment si elle avez en ecrite en peut du melodie (ou peut etre BEACOUP et donnez elle pas credite.)
5:30 - The violinist enters early by a full beat! Props to the pianist who "saves" the situation four measures later. That's quite the blunder. Performance in general is okay. Other than that, underrated sonata.
@@johngalik6609 Yes -- you are. I've studied this piece and performed it multiple times, and it was the subject of my doctoral dissertation and lecture-recital. Also, there's a score and I have ears. Trust me, my previous statement is correct.
@@johngalik6609 Then keep listening because it hasn't changed. God, remind me not to play this piece with you, since you can't count. Maybe the 3/4 measure just before is messing you up. Look kid, one video of a lackluster original composition when you were in high school and 8 subscribers doesn't mean you HAVE to be an idiot. Ohio has failed you, musically, if you can't hear what I've pointed out. You wanna be a violinist? Then BE a violinist, don't be a RUclips comment troll, it's not a good professional look. Talk to me once you've studied this piece for real and worked with a pianist who'll put up with your ignorance.
@@tfpp1 Firstly, you are correct, the fact that the arpeggios begin on the upbeat was my issue. Second, I don't know what anything else you said has to do with any of this, beside exhibit a short temper and insecurity. I don't know what 8 subscribers and one video have to do with things when you have 5 subscribers and no videos. I guess it shows you stalked my channel looking for material to insult me with. I am not the youtube troll, I made an honest mistake and my response was exacerbated by you feeling the need to leave hate comments on youtube performances, it is you who is the youtube troll. Lastly, the piece may be lackluster for a professional, I'm not proud of its lack of originality or undeveloped material, but for a high schooler, it got me accepted into 3 top 20 conservatories in the US. I shouldn't have written any comments, but at a certain point, it becomes so fun with people like you.
@@johngalik6609 Congratulations on school! Now that we got that out of the way we can be friends again. I don't have a channel because RUclips isn't really my place, so if you were trying to insult me it kinda just fizzled, as I really don't care at the moment. (Though I have many, many videos if you search my name, they're just posted by others.) My main gripe is with "younger generations" that lack a little intellectual humility. I've been a professional musician longer than you've been alive. Do you think I just posted my original comment because I was bored and wanted to see who'd respond? I did it because I adore this piece and know it like the back of my hand. And it seems odd that a professional recording would've allowed such a glaring mistake. And then you respond with your sassy little one-word retort. No explanation, no insight; you have no idea who I am or know anything about me, except that you're right and I'm wrong. Frankly, I have zero patience for that kind of nonsense. So I responded in kind. And now here we are. But I'm glad you can amuse yourself. LOL

beautiful playing by Chantal Juillet and Pascal Roge! Thanks for posting!
3:49 one of the most beautiful sections I've ever heard
Then you must listen to his Sinfonietta, in which this beautiful theme appears several times!
@@letodoz5 I just heard someone play the sinfonietta version of this theme on Instagram! I agree that version I'd also very beautiful ❤️
00:00 - I. Allegro con fuoco
06:33 - II. Intermezzo (Très lent et calme)
12:47 - III. Presto tragico
Thank you buddy

The appassionato at 4:53 is just divine.
That second movement is so absolutely beautiful!

I don't think I'm the ONLY violinist here who's like, "HOW HAVEN'T I PLAYED THIS YET??" :O
there's a certain flavor in the intermezzo that leaves a taste in your mouth unlike anything else I've ever heard before
yeah, who are the musicians? a great rendition of this incredible and criminally under-appreciated piece!
Absolutely underappreciated but nevertheless amazing piece!
Amazing Harmonies
Bravo! piano and violin is harmonie's beautiful!!
This is literally exciting!
Poulenc is true genius
Well I know what Im working on this summer...
among the best modern violin music includinng Prokofiev, Hindemith, Bartok, Szymanowski, Stravinsky, Walton, I don't think any other as more important
Koechlin, Dupre, Alain,Boulanger..
5:30 violinist skipped a beat of rest and the pianist adjusted like a pro
no one cares, but it makes me feel better about releasing my own music lol
Was hoping someone else spotted that amazing save by the pianist
8:21 perhaps the piano player was too entranced with the violin playing that he forgot playing his melodic part?
Great. Thank you for this post.
Such an amazing work. I never reached the level where I could play the violin part... perhaps I'll find a violinist and play the piano part.
do you think the piano part is easier?
@@null8295 it at least looks less awkward. Which makes sense, because Poulenc was a pianist and definitely not a violinist
Please, write in about names of performers!

Pascal Roge piano
Thank you! I really like Pascal Roge!
Welcome... I am not the user who posted the video however...

Poulence, Francis Sonat for Violin+ Categorie Music! Licentie Standaard! RUclips--licentie!
Perfect!
Incredible. I bet that he loved movies!
actually no Poulenc was bored by the cinema. He preferred the stage.

This is the sonata Ginette Neveu helped Poulenc write, Strange how she never recorded it.
She died aged 30.
💥👍
Who is the violinist?
👍👍👍
This is great, but the third movement is so tepid compared to Midori's interpretation of it.
anyone else think the first movement reeks of prokofiev?
I'm feeling a bit of Rachmaninoff too
For me at 2:40 Prokofiev and 2:54 Wagner😀
also Tchaikovsky at 1:18
16:01 ...??
16:10 !!!!!
Me: A flutist who wants heard his flute and violin sonatas are similar, idk XDDD
