When I first read the news that Queen Latifah was going to be the Wizard in this version, my reaction was "Sure, why not?" Making the Wizard a woman doesn't really change the story in any real way.
I grew up listening to The Wiz And my mom and dad they had me watch this. Well my mom did. My dad was working late and we watched this. Ever since I saw Queen Latifah And Mary J. Blige i wanted to be one of the characters. My dream came true when I got into my first few weeks of my Junior year of highschool. I performed so you wanted to see the Wizard as my song. Andrè De Shields versión and Queen Latifah’s versión helped me practice my dad helped me too.
I remember watching this on thanksgiving. Man those were good times
Thank God they brought this to TV! When I was a kid they played the Wizard of Oz on TV every year and it was practically required viewing. One of my favorite movies

I didn't actually go see the performance. I only saw the televised version, so as SOON as I saw Glinda with a beautiful golden dress instead of a yellow one and Dorothy with a black jacket instead of a magenta one I said "hold on a second!"
We need a movie remake.

Can't believe I'm saying this BUT.....
#1- I loved the movie the WIZ
the moment I first saw it many years ago & I still do, almost if not more than the original.! Now having said that.... I'd just like to say that this young lady, Stephanie , is it ? is an absolutely perfect as the character *Dorothy*. She comes across sweet, vulnerable and I really like her character's look.
#2 I have always been intrigued(almost in awe of Diana Ross). I remember the summer of 1967 while working at the Jersey shore in Wildwood...I devoured any kind of news and reading material I could get my hands on regarding the *Supremes*... especially, Diana ! I simply Loved her look and that unique Voice.... however...
#3 Shocked at myself as I was, I could not help disliking her in the role of Dorothy. She just didn't seem to fit it as she appeared awkward and gangly and that terrible hairstyle( I couldn't stand it !!) She looked like a little old lady with a young face who just walked out of the the beauty salon sporting her new tight curl perm. On Diana Ross it simply did Not look right plus, it very much played against her supposed... Sweet Young character's appearance.
#4 Ofcourse all due respect to Diana Ross .... this young lady, Stephanie, fit, looked and play the part of Dorothy to a " T " !!!

I really have no problem with blaco Dorothy or anything, but ALL the cast is black? I still believe people should get roles for their skin color, but it looks lovely.

AshTheBac The Wiz Live was extremely amateurish. Looked like a community theater play copy cat version of the Wizard of OZ. not unique at all like the movie version which is monumental and phenomenal

In my opinion the original is better but the modern take on it is refreshing I wouldn’t refer to it as crap but as a good introduction to the new generation of children experiencing this magical event and maybe encourage them to take a look at the original movie

This looks absolutely nauseating & it is such a shame that they have gone & sullied the original film. Nothing about what I saw in this video makes me wish that I had gotten a chance to see the show. The fact that this many high profile names took the original & made it into this is proof positive that they are all completely out of touch with their fan base & reality. #I'MATROLL
