EmperorTigerstar When it comes to the fusion genre that is Pop Rock, I don’t think any decade did it better than the 90s. Gin Blossoms, Matchbox 20, Weezer, Hootie & the Blowfish, Third Eye Blind, and Oasis (just to name a few) wrote some really catchy and well-composed tunes throughout that decade and you could hear the heart & soul/effort they put into their music through every note/melody as-well as the vocals.

@@nabilyassin1742 But that's what music is. The suprise of going from the ordinary or sometimes finding sometimes extraordinary from the ordinary. There is no difference. You don't know how you are supposed to feel. Emotions can suprise us.

Because cognitive dissonance that arise from dissonance beetween this two cognition: a) music as personal taste, for whatever reason music still viewed as music; 2) music as an identity, this is when music is not simply an arrangement of notes, instruments, and mood that's moves you along with the song, music is a shared world. Typically, dissonance isn't favorable experience, hence you will try to avoid it or find a reason to reharmonized your missmatch cognition.
For example, I like Horst Wiessel Lied a lot, but I didn't consider it to be my guilty pleasure, nor do I feel something wrong about it. Since, for me it just a nice marching song, music in itself, not because it is Nazi propaganda, and because I'm not a German or Jew, I'm not attached to this song from cultural and identity point of view.
P.S. This is my oppinion not from actual research so feel free to correct if I'm wrong.

I guess my favorite "guilty pleasure" song would be You'll Always Be My Baby by Mariah Carey. Insane vocal range. Insane production value. Great changes. Great melodies. Actually a lot of that earlier Mariah Carey stuff was like that. All I Want For Christmas Is You is one of the greatest vocal performances of 20th century pop I'd say.

Hey Mike, question: I know you like games because you played Breath of the Wild, Halo, etc. How'd you feel about reviewing game music? Guilty Gear has some good stuff, the earlier music is nice and the more recent stuff actually has vocal tracks. Check it out, its a great rabbit hole lol.
Edit: Daisuke Ishiwatari is the big brain behind almost 85-99% of the game, more so in the early works. Good video called: "toco toco - Daisuke Ishiwatari, Game Creator
    " talks about him.

GG music honestly works too well on its own, especially the songs with vocals - I don't think it would really be the best example for a game music review (don't get me wrong, I'm as hyped for 2020 as anyone else!) Just the music itself is so different from most of what we know as game music, it would kind of miss the point. That being said, I do hope somebody would donate for a GG song in SSF, that would be awesome!

    • @Lazarus3737
      @Lazarus3737 4 года назад +1

@@suomar-art He can still review the music perfectly fine IDK why it being "something that works on its own" makes a difference. If its something you listen to on its own then its probably just a good soundtrack... Maybe you just listen to metal/rock music on its own too. If I put a really good non-rock/metal song in a game and it was good and I listen to that genre a lot I would listen to it out of the game as well. Hell, I listen to the NieR: Automata soundtrack on its own but it was clearly made for the game and works so well with it. Nothing wrong with it being from a game that makes it so that you can't review it on its own or that forces you to review it with the game.
It doesn't have to entirely match up with the game at all, I just want to hear his take on it. In fact, he could totally choose to go the route of how the song works in the game itself, but checking out a song and saying its good or bad is fine too. Up to how he does it. I kinda get the point your making but at the same time I don't lol.

I have a few points to make:
    - firstly, I think the term "guilty pleasure" is bad. if you really like a song/album you shouldn't be ashamed of it. and if you're ashamed of smth then you don't like it all that much.
    - also there is a difference between liking a funny song because you can show it to your friends for the memes... and going out of your way to listen to a song. babymetal is a very good example for a band that can be both. you'll show Gimme Chocolate to a friend who doesn't know it but you might like Sis.Anger for the heavy riffs.

    • @jesterinadeck_2980

frank unodostres. Guilty Pleasure is the best term. It’s not like they are ashamed to the point they will refuse to admit they like the song some people might be. It’s just a phrase people use. It’s usually songs that are out of their comfort zone. So Mike being a metal head listening to songs that aren’t metal he might feel strange liking it so much. It’s more songs you are surprised you enjoy so much yourself rather than what people might think if they heard you said you like a certain song.

I got a few guilty pleasures (no particular order):
    1) Truck Yeah by Tim McGraw
As much as I hate modern country songs and how stereotypical they are, this song just goes for me, I don’t even drive a truck and this song gets me excited
    2) Toxic by Brittney Spears
Apparently this is a lot of other people’s guilty pleasure but I’m still gonna count it
    3) Rockstar by Nickelback
I know, it’s Nickelback... but I loved the hell out of this song as a kid ad the nostalgia is still here whenever I hear this song. Other Nickelback songs turn me off now but this one still has a special yet strange place in my heart.
    4) Old Town Road
This song as a lot of elements that I would hate in any other song, but for some stupid reason this song does it for me, maybe it’s the melodies, maybe it’s Billy Ray, idk
    5) Maroon 5
Just Maroon 5 songs in general, imo their songs are catchy as a motherfucker and I dig em.

    My guilty pleasures
    1. I Believe in a Thing Called Love - The Darkness - the song, especially the lyrics are very cheesy but the main riff is infectious and the vocals are amazing.
    2. I Want It That Way - Backstreet Boys - the lyrics are painfully cliche (rhyming desire with fire - kill me pls) but the melody is extremely catchy.
    3. With You - Chris Brown - I listened to this song a lot in primary school. I liked a lot of hit songs from that era but now I hate them because my music taste really developed. But this song is an exception, it’s really well written and catchy and I still quite enjoy it today. But Chris Browns music apart from this song is trash.
    4. Toxic - Britney Spears - I hate myself for this because her music is absolute garbage but this song is so catchy to me and there something really infectious about this song.
