The Indiana Fever waived defensive specialist Celeste Taylor on Tuesday after sitting her the entire season. When we said "#FreeCelesteTaylor," this is not what we meant.

Just want to point out what Celeste did in the Connecticut game that they played on 6/10. Not only was she able to get around a screen (which I haven't seen any of the other Fever players do), but when she did, she caused the Connecticut player to miss a shot. Also, how she sprinted toward the opposite court. She also wound up getting a block, going to the free throw line and she also made a bucket. This is what Celeste was able to do in her measly 7 minutes that Sides gave her to play in the Connecticut game. I think Celeste would have been a great compliment to CC because they are both fast players from the Big 10 and one is great on offense and the other is great on defense. They really would have complimented one another but now she's gone. Coach Sides and whoever else was involved in letter her go are absolute jokes.
Worst part is that was Deanna Bonner who she blocked an all star Olympian who is 6’4”. Sides is a Moron. And that’s being kind.

A defensive teammate who runs the floor would take pressure off CC. They kept ball hogs who are defensive liabilities. I’m disappointed and confused.

I don’t think Taylor could play up to these bigger women! I didn’t see it! When she played it was scrappy college play and throwing ball away. She wasn’t a standout in the other teams 2nd and 3rd string playing at end of games I saw. Hardly noticeable.

Coach, Celeste (5'11") guarded Bonner (6'4") and was awesome. She had a block, too, if I remember correctly. Bonner had a very difficult time shooting over and around her in that game. Such a waste. 😔

I’ve never seen a fever guard get a block on an on ball defense against elite guards. They just take a shit on little fever guards like Mitchel or Wheeler who are 5’7” tall. 🙄🙄

I am starting to thini Caitlin is a bit of a coward. She could have said, "Respectfully Coach Sides that is not a good idea...this is what our team needs to do ......" She has the power and the money to shrug her shoulders if there is any push back from management.
Maybe we should say “free Sides” perhaps Dunn would get that message and finally fire her. Sides was never fan of Taylor same as she’s not fan of Clark but she can’t let Clark go so instead she sabotage her with dumb plays so she can blame her during interviews. So frustrating

I think one reason is because she was one of the best friends of Caitlin if not she was her best friend! Do I think Sides is that vindictive? YES I DO
This made my jaw drop and I just started shaking my head. Been following her for a while as we're Hawkeyes and she's legit.. She would be a top 5 defender in the *League within a few years easy, with proper coaching and just play time. Even when she did get in this season, she held her own and did great guarding players like D Bonner!.. and they never even gave her a chance to build on her experience that would've helped her take off quickly. This draft class is no joke.. In fact, biggest shock to me was that they chose to waive her over 3 I can think of right now (2 of those getting play time right now) that she already is above in skill defensively and offensively. She also showed glimpses in pre season games, she played VERY well with Clark.. and that up tempo style of team ball. Sides is in over her head and has no idea how to utilize real talent or build a TEAM in general. She's showing she has no intention of doing the actual WORK to do so. We're so over her & Lin Dunn and this org. Hoping major changes come during Olympic Break cuz... just Wow.

I hope you are able to see the Lynx vs Liberty tonight. Alana Smith is a total defensive standout for the Lynx. She can score also. She was waived by the intelligent people of the Fever in 2022. These types of moves is what keep organizations in the gutter. I hope Clark finds a way out before she's ruined. Taylor will be a star defender in the W.

Just yesterday when asked what do the Fever need to work on Christe Sides said Defense. What happens today the defensive player of the year in the ACC for Duke who then goes to Ohio state and wins big 10 defensive player of the year she's great off the ball and all around defender and she can run the floor Celeste Taylor gets released.
The claim is they wanted more height AB is 6'5 TB is 6'4 they have height what they don't have is defense and now they really don't have any.

Hello Adrienne, Thank you for the topic and commentary. This is just devastating and I’m sick to my stomach, hearing about Celeste. I watched her play and everything you said about her is true and More. She is a real gem, a real steel in the draft and why she did not get playing time like you said this entire season we’ve all been saying it. Now the Fever management and GM have done something here just absolutely mindless and unnecessary and it’s going to cost them. Nothing against the other player Damiris, But I am just really devastated over the loss of Celeste. I know that Caitlin may not say it publicly but I’m sure she’s probably feeling the same way many of us are. Caitlin really liked Celeste and has been talking to Christie to get Celeste in the games which didn’t work convincing the coach all this time anyway but now they went and did this. The Fever GM and Management, Threw away a Perfectly good draft pick just wasted not to mention the person that Celeste Taylor is that didn’t deserve this. But wasting a draft pick like this is just insane! If they didn’t want her, they could’ve easily traded in the draft and made better decisions. This is unheard of in sports, I’m just like wow.

There’s a reason the wnba struggled to gain any positive and good attention over the years and it’s pretty clear most of that fault falls on bad management. But then senior players an management complain that they’re not getting the success they deserve. They also don’t value their rookies the last few years the way they should and this is just another example of that.

Like other comments I have seen, the WNBA is a league that loses money, but is subsidized with tens of millions of dollars by the NBA. As a result, each team has to operate under strict rules and guidelines. It seems to affect the overall competitiveness of the league and the overall quality of team personnel hired, i.e. GM, coaches, marketing, etc. At times, the players act like it operates in a bubble, like a club. And the club, which is dominated by veterans, does not like new players to show up veterans on the court or in media. Some players and coaches seem to want to fly under the radar so as to not upset the apple cart or to cause a change in the status quo. In other words, the older players know the game, sit down, shut up, play the game, collect a paycheck. A subsidized league affects the motivation to win, it affects the expediency of firing GM's and coaches.
They got rid of Celeste, a straight girl, for a gay one.
If no one picks Celeste and make her a starter, the WNBA will NEED to be investigated...again. And again.

Adrienne your analysis of this sad situation is correct. I can’t wait for the day that Christie Sides and Lin Dunn are shown the door. A coach with WNBA or NBA experience needs to straighten the Fever out. Massive personnel changes need to be made starting with getting rid of Kelsey Mitchell, Nalyssa Smith, Érica Wheeler and Kristy Sides. They are hindering the long term development of Caitlin and Boston. At least Celeste has been freed riding the bench for the Fever.

I think that's why she did not play her at all because she is a good player and would have done really well. Then when she knew she was going to have to cut her for this other player it would have looked really bad on her part and there would have been an uproar of why are we getting rid of her. Celeste was the 2024 Big 10 Defense Leader of the Year... played for Ohio and watched many of her 2024 games... this is crazy to not use her at all then waive her so late in the season.
Now, free Caitlin Clark, before Sides ruins her, completely. Shame about Taylor; we all wanted to see her play. She deserved better. Good for her, though, for escaping this trainwreck before it was too late.
I remember watching Taytlor play in her brief minutes against Bonner and blocked or deflected her shot . Bonner who is 6' 4" while Taylor is 5' 11". Just like everyone else who was calling Taylor to get playing minutes but was never given a chance , she could have given good minutes to the team if she had a chance but now thats over.,, what a shame.
She blocked Bonner and also a run and gun layup for two with the fever. We begged for her to play after that. They cut the wrong player…Wallace, Wheeler or Saxton should have been cut before Celeste.
Hopefully the Mystics or another team will grab her to finish out the season. She can go overseas for the off season and hopefully make an expansion team next season if not picked up now.
And she can make a lay up!

I used to think when the Philadelphia 76ers kept tanking intentionally while openly admitting it publicly to the media under former GM, Sam Hinkie, they were the most incompetent team ever in basketball. Heck, I literally used to criticize the leadership of Jim Buss, the former president of basketball operations for the Los Angeles Lakers, for wasting Kobe Bryant's final years in the NBA. But the Indiana Fever's front office in the WNBA? They're making previous NBA members of management look like freaking genuises by comparison, and that's not a good thing.
At least with Sam Hinkie, he had a clear vision on what he wanted to do. Yeah, he got called out for it a lot, and you had coaches, on the 76ers, beg ESPN talk good about them while scapegoating the losses on Hinkie. But in a screwed up way, there was some sense to his madness.
With Jim Buss? Yeah, you can cite he made a mistake giving Kobe Bryant that albatross of a contract during his twilight years. But, you could at least argue he was trying to take care of a player who's one of the all time greats.
Yeah, you can can blame him for his gross incompetence not to be able to draw one other star player via free agency to play with Kobe during his twilight years in spite having more than enough cap room. But then again, its not like he can force players to want to play on a rebuilding Lakers team at the time that was trying to build around a past his prime Kobe.
And given how much cache Kobe had with the media, it's not like Jim Buss could've just told Kobe to take a backseat to build through the draft like the Celtics did in recent years. Plus, Jim Buss couldn't just outright trade Kobe considering the Lakers are a family owned team, and they needed him to sell games.
Again, at least with their levels of incompetence, you could make sense of it as to why they were bad. With the Fever? They're either ran by the most incompetent people ever in the history of sports, or they're purposesly sabotaging arguably the most influential female athlete in recent years.
I said this a few weeks ago, and I'll say it again. If they didnt want to build around Caitlin Clark, then they should have either just drafted whoever they really wanted, or trade the pick for a kings ransom and still get who they actually wanted. Considering the hype surrounding Caitlin Clark coming out of college, you're not going to tell me that some other wnba team wouldn't have given the fever a king's ransom for that number one pick. There's just no way that wouldn't have happened.

The problem with the Indiana Fever imo is they want to have their cake and eat it too. They want to have the draw power that Caitlin Clark brings to sell out games. But, they don't want to build around her. They want to change her game entirely to be a pass first point guard, and rarely if ever take clutch shots. They want to minimize her accomplishments, yet highlight all her mistakes. They want her to take less shots in clutch time yet they want to act totally surprised when she doesn't make shot attempts in clutch time like they wanted. They want her to score, but they dont want her scoring too much. Honestly, Sides and the GM of the Fever need to go. I'm sorry. I've been a huge basketball fan since the Michael Jordan era, and this is arguably the most incompetent basketball organization I've ever seen and that says a lot imo.

Bravo! Great insight. Also today WNBA media available rules changed to except/protect 2 players per team interviews and Sky chose Cardoso and Reese to protect. I wish some teams would protect the coaches who don’t take accountability and blame players.
I mentioned this in an earlier video of yours. Dantas is on contract and was suspended due to injury. Once back, one of the fever had to go and it couldn't be someone on contract due to salary cap. With all but two players getting play time, it was a 50% chance that it was going to be Taylor that was waived. And there is no way they were going to waive a big since that is the primary weakness of the fever alongside the obvious defense issues. It is a sad day indeed.
If they would have allowed her to play, everyone would have seen how better she is over Wallace

Unfortunately Adrienne, Dantas was already a part of this team. She was on the Inactive List. She had Visa issues and could not get into the country. If no issues Celeste would have been cut in preseason. Of course there are two players who do not play that could have been gone. Now we know why Celeste was not playing. Not for sure of the injured players CBA. Chances are if Celeste got hurt they would have to put her on the Inactive List forcing the Fever to pay the salary plus health insurance.

Celeste Taylor obviously did something to p!ss off Sides and Dunn. Why else put a person with her talents on the bench, not playing her at all. Heck, I didn't even know she was on the team or who she was (my bad). But I have heard she was defensive player of the year in NCAA so she has to be really good to get that award. Maybe Sides never intended on keeping Taylor because she was always thinking to have Dantas to join the team eventually.

@@theadriennerossshow3143 maybe she didn’t want the team to get use to having her and disrupting any chemistry that Sides is trying to figure out. What would the team do if they liked Taylor and her game but then Sides waved her. At least now Sides doesn’t have to have the team revolt over her decisions.
@@theadriennerossshow3143 could it be that there is another reason that Taylor was waived? Could it be that Sides is considering bringing in Kate Martin for Damiris Dantas? No it couldn’t be because that would be something that Caitlin would love to see and we know Sides is doing nothing to please Caitlin. If Martin joined this team then every thing would turn around because Caitlin would have an ally and the rest of the players not liking Caitlin would have to get on board.

Celeste Taylor would have shown up both Wheeler and Mitchell and she’s brown… so there’s that. Sides has her favorites and they are going to be protected and paid as long as she is there. Sides is the problem.

Here is why she never got playtime because Sides just wants to keep going with the 3 rings circus she has with Erica Wheeler, Kelsey Mitchell and NaLyssa Smith.
I was hoping you might show some highlights of Dantes. I looked her up and she is a good outside shooter for a 6'4" big, and very aggressive on the boards if needed. I'm sure Sides saw something in her. But I do agree if we needed more Defense, we may have been able to release another roster spot rather than Taylor. We can't read coaches' mind, but maybe there was a conflict or attitude thing-we don't know. I think we have to have faith that coach knows something. This may work out very good so we have Boston, Temi, Dantes to spell each other down low now. There won't be a time a big isn't in the game now, so I can see the strategy. Boards are important going up against the top teams. I mean you would know better than the average person right? This may be great once Temi can play again.
She was awesome at OSU. I've been anxious to see her & CC play together. Sides is messed up.
The Fever letting her go is nothing to be outraged about since she wasn't playing at all anyway. Her not playing when they had her is what people should be pissed about.

no doubt...as I am a buckeye and watched Celeste play with Jaycee Sheldon Dallas rookie...Dallas please pick up Celeste for the future ...her and Billings defense and quickness will get you wins ..perfect fit
I truly hope she gets picked up somewhere she will be treated well, Dallas might be a good fit, I hear good things about their coach. She won championships in Oklahoma, a winning tradition, I think Dallas has had injury issues so might work.
This also makes me wonder about Temi..idk just a feeling?
