Change the point system to something between what we have now and the Winston Cup style system.
If you still want to do a playoff format fine. But drivers who have done well all season should carry more points into the playoff.
If they fall apart the door is open. If they keep it up they win. And I’m totally fine having a guy just have to finish 22nd in the final race to be champion regardless of what anyone else does.

    @jacekatalakis8316 Год назад +2

For the yellow line rule, as said in comments Jr wants it gone. Which says all you need to know. Also for the points format...
    Here's my take
Bring back the Latford system, and then give the three or four crown jewel races double points, and the season finale, have something like IMSA did with their triple crown or they do now with the mini championships over the whole season, have one for SS, one for short tracks, one for road courses and so on. Indycar has done this before and still does IIRC with various trophies.
Get rid of stage yellows, give the points at those intervals but don't throw a yellow, as for the DVP, it needs tweaking IMO with the new car. If you go with a full season points format, you are going to want to get out there to get every point. NASCAR wants to have every final race be the 92 Hooters 500 which is the wrong attitude to have. That happened organically over the course of a season however, not manufacutred drama. If someone is running away with the points, then well done, they earned that title.
Oh and no charters, and no guaranteed starting spots. Imagine how big of a deal it is if chase, either one, had an issue and didn't make the Daytona 500 or came up just short in the Duels though or if Willy B wrecked in qualy at the fall Talladega race or the roval and didn't post a time coming to the wire in the season's home stretch and didn't qualify. And yes. you only get two provisionals, one of them being a past champ's one so good luck figuring out when to use it...
That's my take. I'm old school. You didn't put enough effort in or had a problem on your qualy lap? Too bad

Pretty solid ideas there, but I have a couple to share.
Double Yellow Line - Add that if a driver forces a competitor below the yellow line, said driver has a pass through penalty.
Playoff Waivers - They are fine is a driver misses one or two races because of an injury. If you miss a third of the season, there should not be a waiver.
Playoff Races - Here I'm taking a page from the MLB in 2008. All playoff races must be run their full distance. If there is inclement weather, the race is suspended and resumed the next day that weather allows it. Even though I'm a Phillies fan, I understood what Bud Selig did in '08 and I thought it was a great idea, especially for that World Series. That game was a back and forth contest and there was a chance for more of that the next day.
Had to edit to add this about stage cautions - I'm fine with them. It bunches the field back up and adds more action to the race. And like the saying goes, "Cautions breed cautions."

    Rules that should go away/change
    1. Yellow line rule/course limits. This needs to be consistent. Either get rid of the yellow line rule or make the run offs at road courses out of bounds. Same with Phoenix.
    2. Stage racing. If we got to have stage racing, get rid of the caution flags. Keep the race green and hand out points.

Stage Yelllow: I hate it, give out points sure but don’t put out the yellow on ANY circuit
DVP: Yes keep it, but tweak it so time starts and ends at your pitbox NOT yellow line-yellow line
Elimination: Keep it BUT change it to be entirely points based
Win and In: Get rid of, EVERY year since 2014 someone 17th or lower has gotten a fluke win and usually get’s knocked out in the first round anyways
Double file restarts: Yes keep, no explanation needed
Track Limits: Bit of a joke but stateside the consensus seems to be “if it’s grey it’s okay” soo for me idc
Revenge attitude: I dunno what the solution is but something does need to be done
Playoff Waivers: If you miss 1-3 races that’s one thing but there should be a hard limit of races missed! Switching series is also completely unacceptable, you commit in Daytona and no changing

The yellow line rule has created a situation where there is no reason to avoid contact coming to the line because the most often situation is the 2009 Dega race between Edwards and Kesolowki. There is no punishment for running through a guy, 1st place blocking just ends with them in a fence.
Reagan smith did the only reasonable thing in the moment and was punished for it in 2008.
It's why I also like them not having track limits at the road course, you see the mess that the yellow line policing causes for everyone involved.
The repair clock and the stage flags can also go away. Nascar has lost all it's teeth as an endurance series. 500 miles is a mountain to climb and we've taken away the tenacity of people running hard, licking their wounds, and getting the most that they can out of a day. I love hearing that these drivers are tired after the road courses this season.
Being said, the lucky dog is there for a reason. It diminishes the fight to stay on the lead lap and moves it away from the race leader. That has helped keep people from parking it in front of the leader and is one of the few shining examples of better sportsmanship in the modern era.
The waiver and the playoffs come hand in hand. I think it cheapens the experience but if nascar wants more engagement and entertainment the numbers don't lie.

If viewership and ratings continue to decline in the final 10 races, mind as well change back to full season points or original chase format with some tweaks. Double yellow line is stupid. It done more harm than what it intended to do. Stage yellows is dumb. Something what we never should have if we fixed the current car.
What you didn't mentioned is the GWC. It destroyed more cars and still finish under yellow in some races recently.

    Yellow line rule: abolish
    Free pass: keep
    Stages: abolish
DVP: keep, but increase the time to like 10-15 minutes
    Elimination playoffs: abolish
    Win and you’re in: abolish
Double file restarts: keep, but if it gets too wacky, go single file
Mostly having no track limits: keep
Drivers having to stay quiet about revenge: keep. Bubble Wallace and Chase Elliott tried to lie, but failed because they got suspended which they deserved
    Playoff waiver: abolish
I’m gonna talk about the things not in this video
GWC: make it one, two, or three attempts. Unlimited attempts can get way to wacky
NASCAR should get rid of no locking bumpers for trucks in Xfinity as well

The two that I have issues with are the Lucky Dog and the Crash Repair time.
Sorry but I'm old school when it comes to getting your lap back, with the L.D., there is no incentive to use pit strategy to work at getting it back, no "freebee's".
The Damage Clock, give the teams a chance on making the necessary repairs, with these new chassis, when you bend a rod in the rear or related components, let them go to the garage and attempt to fix it, they may come back many laps down, but you're giving them a fair chance. When it comes to wrecked bodies and panels, if they won't let you replace it securely, you're done, we've all seen cars come back with 100 pounds of tape and pieces falling off, I agree we can't have that, unsafe for the drivers & fans.

Get rid of the line rule, get rid of stage yellow (stages itself and stage points can stay), get rid of win and your in/advance (playoffs itself can stay at least for now, just have it purely on points instead of wins), get rid of the DVP (too many cars end up out of the race too soon due to a broken toe link or 2 for example ruining a chance for a better finish due to attrition). In addition to that, I would say bring back the old bonus points to go alongside stage points, so a bonus point for leading a lap and another point for leading the most laps and perhaps have a point bonus for winning the pole also.

1: line rule, do away with, atleast on straights
    2: lucky dog, stay
    3: stage yellows, stay
4: DVP, needs to go or be extended and permit garage visits
5: Playoffs, I never saw anything wrong with the older chase style. I would like to see it go back to a form of the chase
6: win and in, needs to be adjusted. I like it in a way, but I think switch it to like either certain events or first x winners and let the points play the rest, no reason for a top 25 car to get lucky and take a spot away from a guy that was going to point their way in that was actually consistent
    7: double file, stay
8: no track limits, change, Not penaltywise, but maybe a natural limit, like how sand traps used to be. Maybe a thin strip of gravel or slicker track out of bounds. available for use, but high risk vs reward
    9. Revenge talk, needs to go. Let them create their own drama and rivalry. I hate hearing the b.s. excuses.
10: playoff waiver, GO! with maybe some VERY specific circumstances. Honestly, both Elliott and Bowman (fan of both) should NOT have gotten a waiver.. Both could've pointed their way in even after missing out technically

  • @GamersHolyArmy

Yellow line: Agreed with this, although I was like "you're good usually, but if there's a car on the apron then it's a problem".
Lucky Dog: I think it's fine, gives drivers lower down something to fight for.
Stage yellows: Get rid of them and keep the points, but I'd say to keep them in the back pocket as a contingency plan for a track that has issues with the racing product but you can't get rid of it.
DVP: No reason to keep it, I'll make a compromise that if you can't fix it in the time they aren't out but they have to go back to the garage to complete the repairs.
Elimination Playoffs: Honestly I'm fine with it mostly (look down), at this point I don't really care what the championship format is.
Win and You're In: Yeah, no, at this point it practically makes points worthless by the end of the regular season, if you just get rid of WAYI I'm good with the playoff system currently.
Double File (Shootout Style) Restarts: Honestly I enjoy having lap cars on the inside, gives them something to fight for like the lucky dog, and with the wave around the dumb stuff can be kept to a minimum, I'm good with either, but not a big fan of single file zero frills.
No Track Limits: I think on the inside it should be curbed, I don't think driving corners with halves of two wheels on the curbing like we see at COTA should be a thing, but track extending I think is fine.
Quiet about incidents: I do think there needs to be some more reigning in, more than has already been done, get rid of the need for explicit intent and give lesser penalties for obvious intent wrecks at slower tracks. (I still stand by that if Hamlin was penalized something for blatantly wrecking Yeley at Richmond the incident with Chase wouldn't have happened) Letting the drivers settle things themselves is good in theory but it has gone way too far.
Playoff Waivers: I agree, injuries for a week or two is reasonable, but other reasons, no, they have to get in on points if they can. This wouldn't be a problem if Win and You're In is gone and it's just top 16 (or whatever) and wins just give you bonus points to be used in the playoffs.

Yellow line rule: scrap it, it has failed in every way. It amazes me that they haven’t yet.
Lucky Dog: I like it, heck I think IndyCar should have it.
Stage yellows: absolutely not. Keep the racing going, don’t interrupt the race. I do like the idea of mid-race points though
DVP: abolish it, it makes no sense why they have it
Playoffs: get rid of it, we are the only league in the world (to my knowledge) that has this sort of system, and ratings haven’t gone up
Win and you’re in: I already said abolish the Playoffs, so…
Double-file restarts: I think it works, and I think the choose cone helped fix it, although if they were to go back to single file, I wouldn’t mind
Track limits: unless it’s blatantly obvious someone is cutting the track, I don’t want to see this
Revenge: what NASCAR is doing right now is perfect in my opinion, suspending drivers who really, really take it overboard
Playoff waivers: I already said no playoffs

The thing about track limits is that cars were never designed to go beyond them and still impact the wall at a safe speed. If you blatantly ignore track limits like IndyCar did at CoTA in 2019, you could end up with a situation with a car reaching a marshal station/ safety vehicle much faster than they would otherwise. In the above example, Marcus Ericsson lost it in T20 and from the replay you see a recovery worker go hauling ass out of a portajohn. It may sound stupid, but track limits are there for a reason. Grass is a good idea if there is a problem. Just putting it out there.

Double yellow: I would keep it, but not for the reasons one might think. You are a driver, having the skill to keep the car inside the lines and/or out of the grass is your responsability. In every track you should remain inside the lines or, at the most, with two tyres inside the line and two on the kerbs... Doing the opposite is assuming that Peter Griffin owns Nascar. Any decent racing division in the world doesn't have drivers going all the way out with intent. What Regan Smith did in 2008 is known in any other track of the world as an illegal shortcut. And I liked the punishment for wrecking the field.
Stage points: can be kept, or turned into a tie breaker. Example: two are tied in points, first tiebreaker is most wins, second tiebreaker is the positions on the stage. I would get rid of the stage yellow though.
Restarts: I would get rid of the lucky dog. This is a good rule to put big team drivers that happen to be behind during that day back into some form of contention. Restarts can be single file, but in the order of positions. 1st starts 1st, and so on. But I really like the double file starts.
Chase or Playoffs: I really don't like either format. But I think, if we return to year round counting of points, that there should be a stipulation to be a champion: WIN at least one race. I saw many fans saying that they want consistency to count and, for that, they would accept a winless champion. That is outrageous, if you can't win, you're a sorry a**, illegitimate champion. And remember: Xfinity had a winless champion 10 years ago, and trucks had a winless champion with playoffs as a rule 6 years ago. Cup came close in 2014, but Kevin Harvick won.
About the waivers, any argument by me is a bit damaged, since I don't support the Chase or the Playoffs. But if something like the 2015 of Kyle Busch happened, let him try it, system or not his run was incredible. If he can win and reach the battle for the championship, it's his merit.
Driver revenge: I don't have a problem with that. Let the drivers settle their disputes. Like Verstappen and Hamilton did it in Monza 2021, or Senna and Prost in Suzuka 1990. Minimal interference by the governing body to actually avoid disputes, because racing is made of that.
DVP: not a fan of. If you can come back to the track, alright. But if you put a car that has parts coming out all over the track or is extremely slow and this causes any crash to someone else, you're parked the next race. Or at least coming out of the pits.

  • @Qaianna

I don't like stage yellows much either. Junk those.
As far as your yellow line suggestion, it's hard to imagine the penalty there as being worth much due to the damaged vehicle protocol coming in anyway, although it would be karmic catchup on someone who does get away with it. Still, in a way that yellow line rule is NASCAR's version of the track limits debate that goes through other bodies as well, so it's tied up with that too. And yes, I get an earful from my father whenever we watch a road course race and they're using the track limit of 'any non-vertical hard surface is in'.

If nascar is going to keep doing so many road course then they need to learn to officiate a road course race, they need to make slow zones instead of full course yellows and if a driver misses a chicane or corner it is absolutely stupid to make them come to a complete stop and then go, let them give the spot back or get a penalty. But the full course caution is probably a American thing, because that’s what makes indycar “so exciting” they have about 5 full course yellows to bunch everyone up unlike Europe where it takes a huge incident to bring out a safety car in something like GT3

    Here’s what I’d do:
    - Yellow Line Rule: abolish, it causes more harm and more chaos
    - Lucky Dogs: keep, it’s actually fair and it gives friends a chance for a better finish or win
    - Stage Yellows: abolish, it ruins good racing
    - DVP: abolish, it encourages sloppy repair work and unfairness. It cars can’t run, just park em. If the cars can run with decent amount of repairs, let them run
    - Elimination Chase: abolish, Motorsports shouldn’t be ball sports and WWE on wheels. It encourages more danger. The excitement is not natural, it’s forced and predictable. Plus ratings for the chase has been down since 2007. So just axe it completely. Make the entire season matter. Best driver of a season wins regardless if there’s championship battles or dominations. Being back legitimacy and fairness!
    - Win and You’re In: abolish, what is there to say? It’s stupid. Same opinion about the chase.
    - Double File Restart: I’m not sure, to be honest. The problem is that drivers show no respect at all. At the same time it is fine. But if a race and restart is too chaotic, make ‘em go single file.
    - (Mostly) Having Track Limits, I’m not sure. Yeah it’s cool that it’s fun and makes the racing exciting and it’s hard racing, but at the same time, it looks silly and unprofessional.
    - Drivers Having To Stay Quiet About Revenge: keep it, let drivers deal with it on pit road post-race and not use their cars as weapons (like wrecking) like a bunch of cowards. Give them penalties if they say something and do something wrong on track when they actually do their revenge.
    - Chase Waivers: abolish, same opinion about why the chase is bad. Chase Waivers is just giving a child a toy even tho they didn’t earn it. It’s just stupid in general.
    Not in the video:
    - GWC: abolish, the race should finish at race distance at all-yikes.
    - Locking Bumpers (Trucks and Xfinity): abolish, pushing bumpers at Daytona and Dega is somewhat more dangerous than locking bumpers. Tandem racing is cool.
    Thanks for the video, Jaret!

@@KevinHarvickisnothappy4 I see whatcha mean. Don’t get me wrong, I know why it’s a thing, I don’t disagree. But I feel like pushes cause issues at times too.
But locking bumpers as a penalty is honestly stupid, in my opinion. No one should go to the back or serve a penalty on pit road for locking bumpers.
So what can they really do if locking bumpers and pushing cause issues? Let the air do the work?

Abolish the double yellow line on the straights
playoffs shouldn’t be win and you’re in, but instead top 12 in points no matter what.
Playoff waivers shouldn’t be a thing but if you make it in on points despite missing races that’s ok, you raced in.
One rule I don’t like is closing pit lane at the onset of a caution or with 2 to go in the stage. Pits should stay open unless there’s a legitimate safety reason to close them.

I know this isn't a rule but something that's controversial is "too many road courses". 1st, don't blame the track, blame the car for racing product. 2nd, Indy and fall Charlotte can easily flip back to the oval. 3rd, road courses don't suck and NASCAR shouldn't be limited to ONLY race on ovals.

  • @highoctanecards

Get rid of stages altogether. A 17th place driver can get the same amount of points as the race winner. That's just messed up.
I agree on the waivers only on track Nascar race sanctioned injuries, legitimate illness and family situation (FMLA type scenarios) should be the ONLY possible reason for a waiver. And maybe reduce the number of races a driver could miss as well regardless of situation.
I think a true playoff, bracket style format would be interesting. No playoff points, regular season champ bs etc. The highest 16 eligible drivers in points seeded 1 vs 16, 2 vs 15 just like the NCAA. Three races the driver with the most points in each pairing move on to the next round, till you get the championship 4.
Free pass rule should be amended to the first lapped car physically behind the leader, not the first one a lap down in the serial scoring.
The others seem good, just need some fine tuning.

Stage yellows should be scaled back as it becomes evident we don’t need them. I think now we can go without them at Pocono and Indy but Richmond I feel still needs them.

My opinion on each rule in this video
    DYL: Remove the rule.
Free Pass: I like this rule, keep it
Stage cautions: throw it in the trash, it slows the pace down too much and all for artifical entertainment
DVP: another rule that screws over teams with even the most minimal damage. Get rid of it.
Playoffs: this is the worst part of Nascar. Entirety luck based and can easily destroy someone's season with one bad race.
Win and you're in: if the playoffs stay, at least get rid of this and have it just be the top 10 in points.
    Double file: keep it.
Track limits: depends on track: for Watkins Glen for example, have track limits in turn 1.
Boys have at it: enforce it better. It just going to cause everyone to kill each other.
Playoff waiver: only give it to people with injuries if they qualify.

The only rules I don't like that much are the stage cautions and the end of the playoffs. Take away the stage breaks because it ends up everyone goes to the pits all at once because they plan for the cautions there. Imagine this weekends race at Daytona, if there were no stage breaks. There wouldve been 200 green flag laps in a row and more strategy when it came to pit stops. Much more excitement I think. Then the end of the playoffs are just alright. Im fine with elimination, but the 1 race final seems lame. 4 drivers whoever does the best wins is just anticlimactic. Maybe have 8 drivers and 4 races. The end of the regular season is much more exciting than the end of the playoffs.

The double yellow line rule needs to be abolished. Regan Smith won at Talladega in 2008 and no one can tell me otherwise. Get rid of stage yellows entirely. They break up the flow of the race and diminish the interesting strategies that teams employ. Just award the top 10 points at a certain lap and keep racing. No harm in that. The DVP is ridiculous. Get rid of it.

    Yellow line rule: ban it
Lucky dog: keep it. The battles for the lucky dog have been great part of the races
Stage Yellows: depends on the race
DVP clock: the worst rule that’s been created. Needs to be updated or abolished completely (Kenseth Kansas 2017)
Elimination Playoffs: abolish it. Make to where wins get a ton of bonus points and make bonus points for other things like laps led, qualifying on pole, fastest lap, etc
16 cars in the chase: doesn’t change much of anything tbh if it were changed
Double file restarts: keep it as it is unless a weather situation occurs
Track limits: needs to be changed and have track limits imo
Revenge: we need boys have at it again. More rivalries BUT we need to penalize the drivers who constantly put people into the wall and drive dirty aka Denny Hamlin, Chastain, etc.

Honestly. We should race back to the caution. The safety gains from it were negligible at best. And 2003 was already safe enough. So they didn't need to be rid of it anyway
