Mega Man 3 - Doc Robot (Shadow Man Revisited) Perfect Run

- This stage... This rematch... This fat freaking hitbox o.o;; Shadow Man Revisited brings in two more Doc Robot fights, and this time, they mimic Wood Man and Heat Man. Sure, Wood Man was a bit tricky, but hey, we can slide now, so it'll be easy, right? Ohh, what a fool... And even after that, Heat Man still has that first attack you have to dodge, so... yeah, hope you're good at that!

A solid 4 minutes of Wood Man outtakes! This makes it look like Burner Man hardly had any outtakes at all.
J Lever Heat*
No, Burner. He's talking about Burner Man from Mega Man and Bass, another of Roahm's nightmare bosses
@@ZeldaTheSwordsman That's me!
Oh my god, you did it. I grew up with this game and NEVER found a way to avoid Doc Woodman's triple threat of falling leaves/leaf shield/body slam. I always ended up saving an E tank especially for this fight.
You.
Are.
Awesome.
"Bonus star for landing on the most happening spaces."
Commonly known as how Mario Party games break friendships. :D
Holy jeez, I can't beat either of those Doc Robot's without taking damage, even with the 3DS restore points. Major congratulations to you. Good luck in Gemini Man's stage.
I was kind of down at the time this video came out .,... But then I saw it in the subscription feed and it made me feel good ! Thank you roahm! Amazing job as always ! Them dodge maneuvers were tricky but no match for the dragon !!!
Wow, after the outtakes, I just had to watch the Wood Man portion again to really understand how amazing your dodging has to be! It seemed nigh impossible, so good job for making it through!
So glad to see you doing these stages. I wish you luck on the no doubt to be insanity inducing journey to the Sparkman revisit stage. Every time I try a buster only run it takes about 7 E tanks to take down Quickman. God Speed.
Dude, Roahm, that was amazing! I was a bit skeptical about this stage, 'cause I wasn't sure dodging Doc Wood was even POSSIBLE!
When I did this, I paid attention to where the falling leaves were for the right time to jump.
Would you mind to share some more tips? Because I was thinking the same, but there's another problem - he's not always at the same distance from you when he fires the shot, so doing exactly the same thing every time won't work...
@@BegUltra When the falling leaves touch the XX in the background, you need to jump to avoid getting hit by the Leaf Shield. Considering it’s so huge, moving forward is generally preferable as well. The epic dodge maneuver is much more difficult as well.
@@hunam_1 I've mastered Doc Wood, as well as the entire MM3. I've achieved over 50% win in battles with him (buster only and no E-tanks). You can check my channel, many fights with him, including one video where I killed him 5 times in a row. And here's my entire MM3 run with buster only - deathless, E-tankless, glitchless, no turbo:
ruclips.net/video/2Wtq7nM5qHo/видео.html
And now, I'm practicing for the same thing, but this time a speedrun. I should be completely ready to start attempting within the next 2 weeks.
@@hunam_1 then planning to do the same with all other MM claasic games (but I'll be going with 8 bit demakes for 7, 8, 11 and Bass)
@@hunam_1 by the way, just recognised you, great videos out there, no miss no damage. Watched your stuff. And even the guy who put the initial comment we are replying to, has done some awesome stuff, has MM2 and MM3 buster runs (deathless and no E-tanks), he's the only guy apart from me on the entire RUclips who passed MM3 buster/deathless/E-tankless
This seemed like Wood Man got his revenge there xD
This might be the silliest thing I've ever commented on, but the fact that you correctly used the term "portmanteau" -instantly- brought a grin to my face.
a solid 8 years later i finally realized that you were making a Ninjas vs Pirate reference at the beginning - "it's not too difficult to get past them, just keep your eye open" - stereotypic one-eyed being a pirate... shadow man being a ninja - Ninja vs . Pirates
I have a feeling that if Roahm showed us a clip of everytime he messed up on doc wood, this video would be 3x longer; this challenge is that tough. Awesome job.
At least Gemini's stage will be a bit easier. The beginning of the Doc Flash fight can be quite tricky, but the rest isn't so bad. Doc Bubble is also slightly annoying. Still, nothing even comes close to Doc Wood or Quick. From my experience, Quick is quite a bit harder to perfect than Wood. It takes a while to get the hang of Quick, and he can still trip you up with his pure randomness. Besides taking more hits this time around, he's still harder in more ways than his previous incarnation.
You are by far the best Mega Man player ever. To do these runs with just the mega buster takes skill. Well done
Thanks for the Doc Robot trivia!!!! Doc Robot was always the scariest character in the game for me, this would explain why!!!
I'm sorry the two doc robots gave you so much trouble. with each outtake with doc wood and doc heat I could hear your pain and anger over it. Poor, poor dragon. you do so much for us viewers and with that we thank you. Take your time, as always, with your videos.
It is often the bosses who decide the difficulty rating due since they are meant to be the main challenges of the stage.
Anyways congrats on beating Doc Wood, he is easily one of the toughest doc robots and different from most nightmare bosses for not being a spaz so he has to be insanely difficult to get the notorious 10 rating. And good luck with Doc Flash, like Doc Wood his bigger size makes the fight with him a lot more difficult than the one in MM2.
That freakin' hitbox, man.. I knew Doc Wood was going to be a pain. And it only gets worse from here. I'm still dreading when you get to Doc Quick. Quick Man's speed plus Doc's large hitbox make the fight 10 times worse than he was in MM2.
Good luck Roahm, you're going to need it.
Roahm, your level of patience at times is astounding.
(Granted, you may very well rage offscreen)
Well well well...thanks for inadvertently introducing me to another game I'll have to check out!!
Gamespot has a little video of de Lancie covering his role in the game. Worth a listen.
Another nightmare stage it seems... congrats on beating it.
I heard one of the later Doc Robots is basically Quickman with a bigger hitbox. That sounds... "fun".
I always joked that the red lava in Shadow Man and his revisited stage was 'the blood of his victims.' And I learn something new every day!
Happy one thousand videos! Here's to a thousand more (majority of those probably being Battle Network when you get back to it)!
I wonder how things would have played out if the stage had the QuickMan rematch instead of HeatMan.
Doc Robot WoodMan + Doc Robot QuickMan
Hmmmm... : D
You would have had to add a bonus stage with three Yoku Men in the same room just to compete :)
In all seriousness, I think, Capcom avoided stages like that on purpose; but yeah, It would be worse than hell :-D
Have you made Yoku Man only appear in the rematch if the player fought him in his own stage, and made an extra stage break?
Actually, having to Beat Nail Man Ω on insta-death mode is just as difficult.
Nail Man is basically Wood Man 2.0
Some of MM3's inherent unfinished slowdown looks like it hit you in these fights, hard :(
That said you were awesome! Thanks for giving us an awesome show!
Oh wow. I didn't even know you could jump over this new Leaf Shield in the first place. Congrats on beating such a ridiculously difficult poss though, Roahm!
Thanks for the shout out, btw. :D
HOLY SHIT. You did it, man. Now that I've seen this, I believe anything is possible.
Ganbare, mate!
Something tells me the lag you encountered during Leaf Shield jumps was the big bang of forest pain this round.
Lagentum is a killer!
Oof, I've never managed these without taking damage. It took me years to get to where I could beat them in general, actually. Love watching you play either way. I'm aware this is an old video but I do love my retro games.
The timing against Doc Wood, it's insane
Amazing run once more, your videos continue to be a highlight of my subscription box :)
You have a point there, yes. Every Mario Party game is basically a dice-throw as to who wins. Only frustration can come from attempting to influence the outcome. :D
Skull Robot fits with Wily's normal urge to reveal himself as the mastermind behind the plots. Though MarikoOkuri's suggestion of them being "Doc's Robots" makes sense in that context, too.
@DriveInTake : Yeah, saving Quick for last was intentional, seemed like a good finale for these stages.
13:04 - "Dodge maNEUver mul ti ple times". :D I lol'd
Congrats on (finally) clearing what is probably the second-hardest of these stages! Doc Wood demands a lot of precision, but at least there's no randomness to his pattern (unlike Doc Quick).
Next up: Doc Flash and That One Jump...
MegaMan 3 was the first of the series I ever played as a kid. Back then I wasn't even aware of the name Doc Robot, the original name, or the translation. I used to refer to the MM2 rematches as Air Skull, Crash Skull, Quick Skull, etc...
You are really skilled gamer, Roahm! :) Your work is awesome :)
I take my hat off to you, sir. I'm really looking forward to your rematch with Quick Man (now supersized and twice as durable). Best of luck!
On the plus side, you should get a breather from the fortress. Except for the rematches, that is. Needle and Shadow in the same stage, with a side order of Junk Golems? Yikes.
that doc wood fight was amazing
That darn temporary platform part...that and Doc Wood were definitely the main problems with this stage when I played it for the first time on a real NES. That guy is a pain even when not doing a Perfect Run. Even with weakness weapons.
'gratz on Woodman (Knew he was a pain in the rump) I can't wait to see what you're going to do about Doc Flash. Doc Quick, I almost think will be easier than the original with sliding, and if I recall, that's paired with a flat playing surface to do said sliding on.
@edfreak9001 : Haha, I did love the game, and do hope it gets a true sequel. The DLC packs... eh, they're okay, but they just don't feel as lively without John deLancie's lines.
All I gotta say is good luck with the rest of the Doc Robots, especially the two in Spark Man's stage.
@AustinOnSugar : If that's possible, I've never managed it. I don't think you get quite enough horizontal clearance to get over Doc Robot's wide hitbox when he's just standing still. You basically need him to be moving to clear him that way, but since the only time Doc Wood moves is by jumping, then you can't get the VERTICAL clearance you'd need.
Very nicely done!
Once again, I have one issue though... that being no mention of the Doc Robot weakness weapons (and I know each of them have at least one, just don't have them memorized).
I asked in the last video if you were gonna add the weakness showcase as an extra in the last Doc Robot stage, but because of the trouble these two variants caused you (as well as the other four may cause)... I'm thinking a "REVENGE!!!" video would be more appropriate.
Dat Mario Party reference though.
I don't think Doc Robot is *that* odd a name. The true explanation helps me get past my childhood belief that they were retooled versions of Guts Man. (I shared your belief that Dr. Wily has a Guts Man obsession!)
To this day, I can't believe he pulled this off.
About the Rush Jet thing in the beginning: First things first, thanks for showing it off :P
Second: No, you can't grab onto ladders by "looping" across the screen; I've just tried that in Magnetman's stage - the first stage that came to my mind that has a downwards ladder without a ceiling above it - and it doesn't work. Ah well.
Also, Woodman is a jerkface.
I understand that using weaknesses isn't the point to these perfect runs, but you have briefly mentioned a weakness or two in the past.
As far as the Doc Robot fights are concerned; that is why I suggested the weakness showcase should be extra material, either as part of the outtakes of spark man revisited or as "REVENGE!!!"
If it's something you don't want to do, that's fine by me. However, in my honest opinion, the Doc Robot fights are unique and/or difficult enough to show their weaknesses.
And you have to use the epic dodge maNUVer mul-ti-ple times. BLAST!
@John Andrew Thomas : I can only guess Doc Wood is in Shadow Man's stage to reference the whole "kawarimi" thing, that is, ninjas escaping by displacing their bodies with decoys, often depicted as logs. Shadow Man does this in one of the fighting games, for example. Heat Man... I guess it's just that "mystery liquid" looks enough like the lava from Heat Man's original stage?
Tell you what - you don't want to do a special 1000 video - but hear me out, your fans do, because they (we) see it as a milestone and feel it's a celebration. Might I suggest a slight parody interlude;
MegaMan Soccer (aybe it's called MegaMan Footall there?)
Here's an idea for a new drinking game... Take a shot every time Roahm says "a thing", "problematic", or "bugger". We'll all be drunk by Needle Man!
Yeah, I was talking about Quick Man specifically, which Roahm calls a "nightmare robot master", due to the way he's such a spaz.
In the Quick Man perfect run, he practically drove Roahm to insanity, and now he has to do it again - with a bigger hitbox AND twice the health!
Poor guy.
The Epic Dodge Manouvre! Now epicer, manouvrier and certainly dodgier!
Wily Capsule 7 has finally been mastered. The strategy really isn't that crazy (although I haven't perfected it yet myself). My least favorite thing to perfect-run in 7 is the last Bass fight.
Interesting that when you said "Dokurobotto", I thought that it was going to be "doku" and "robotto", with doku being poison, as in the skull and cross bones. I'm liking these bits of trivia I'm getting.
An 8 or a 9 might be appropriate for Doc Robot (Shadow), but a rating of 10 seems unprecedented.
(Please don't take this in the wrong way Roahm you are awesome and your videos are awesome and I understand that this was painful and PLEASE DON'T HATE ME FOR MY OPINION)
@yorwie7 : Essentially, while practicing, I get an idea of what things I want to talk about and cover as I play through the stage. Sometimes things will be dropped here or there, like if sudden events jar me out of my train of thought or what have you, but it gives me a sort of mental tasklist of "okay, I need to discuss this, and this, and this," etc.
Interesting; I never knew that about Doc Robot. In fact, I heard he was called Docman in Japan. I can see how that translation goof was made though; I did hear that MM3 was rushed in development somewhat.
Wow; AMAZING JOB against Doc Woodman. I always considered him one of the hardest of the eight, thanks to the larger hitbox, not just on Doc Robot himself, but on the Leaf Shield as well. Not only that, the Shield itself deals a ton of damage; I think enough to kill you in 3-4 hits.
@Jordan Peloquin : Once you get used to it, I really don't find Quick Man's stage that hard. It has its few little gotcha moments that can catch you, just like Shadow Revisited does, like with those platforms and their odd behavior sometimes. The ten is almost entirely earned by Quick Man himself. I stand by my ten for this one as well, considering how pixel perfect you have to be with most of the dodging vs Doc Wood, and even the start of Doc Heat.
@Allan Grey : Wait, there's something in Mario Party that DOESN'T do that? XD
I always thought that "Doc Robot" was the odd translation for what would have been "Daaku Robotto" and it would have been "Dark Robot", but then again, when "Dark Man" is introduced, this went out the window LOL.
Oh my god the performance on the mini boss. I wept. I came. I wept again.
Your voice... I can tell you were really tired there. good job, really. You deserve this victory
@SuperFangStrizer : Eventually, yes. For now, I want to do a few shorter projects, get a bit more variety on my channel, and have a more productive year or two than the rather slow one when I did MMBN3.
@Wyvernmatt : I'll eventually be attempting the MM&B fortress, yes. Not looking forward to that one, it is so horribly biased towards playing as Bass...
@
RoahmMythril Woow you killed perfect the hardest boss ever in mega man classic serie (original). Doc Wood man is much harder than both Dr. Willy from mega man 7 and mega man 9. If you play with buster and no E tanks, then it is the most difficult boss ever DOC wood man, because it is easier to dodge dr. willy capsule's attack from mega man 7 and mega man 9, than leaf shield and DOC wood man.
For me is DOC Wood man hardest boss ever.
very impressive!
Thank you for sharing
Phenomenal job! Doc Wood is very hard to pull off!
@WolfLink370 : I haven't really discussed weaknesses in any of my Perfect Run vids, I don't think? After all, using weaknesses isn't the point of these vids ;)
You might have known this, but in MM3 Rush Jet ONLY uses energy if your feet are on it. You can keep jumping and moving forward to save energy.
Not the most helpful tip around, but maybe it'll make things easier for you if you decide to casually play it on your own later.
Awesome videos again Roahm! I just wanted to let you know you can just jump through those platforms over bottomless pits atleast on the NES version. No need to do double jumps to readjust on them.
This is why I'll never try to do longer challenges that require perfection... Either I do something brief enough perfectly, or I do something longer close enough to it. I could definitely never be a speedrunner or anything like that, but I do love what I can learn from it all, + it's just impressive.
SSX 3 is one of my favorite games with this mindset, it's got short courses I can do resets on, longer ones where I just go for a good overal performance, and REALLY long ones where I just go with whatever happens. Even if I mess up a run early, I usually just ride it out for fun and to keep learning, the failure itself likely being the biggest learning experience, especially if it was really bad.
If I just can't get something right or I don't know why it sometimes goes wrong, it's frustrating, but if it just messes up every once in a while regardless... That's just how it goes. Also, when I say perfect... It's not like I'd ever aspire to do what the best players can anyway, but even by my own standards, I'll mess up and keep going if it's a game where I can easily repeat it for fun, eventually getting a run I'm really happy with.
I honestly believed that Shadow Man Revisted was going to be not that bad...until you showed me how precise the Jumping of the Leaves were. Compounded with the fact that you can't cheap the fight by shooting through his shield for massive damage, and trust me when I say that it's for the better, I'm starting to see some of the flaws with one of my favorite Mega Man games ever and not the good kind of flaws either. If Shadow revisited was tame, I'm afraid to see the damage output for the last two
Actually, in the original Mega Man 2 weakness chain, it was Quick -> Metal. Thus, it's only the Flash+Bubble pair that breaks the pattern.
I've actually found Doc Heat very obnoxious due to one of the same reasons as Doc Wood: the larger hitbox. I'd accidentally clip him as he came out of the charge, then he was literally all over me.
@EvilMariobot : Haha, kind of wondered if anyone would notice that touch with the Pokemon stuff ;) As for the Wily Wars thing, eh, we'll see. It doesn't really feel like as big of something to point out as how drastically different CWU-01P is.
Completely expecting you to save Spark Revisited last. That stage is a nightmare.
those strange platforms actually show up in the gameboy version of megaman 3. They're in the drillman stage, theres only 2 and they're guarding 2 E tanks over some spikes. That being said those were the best E tanks to grind
Happy 996 upload. Roahm just keeps going.
Roahm: I need a Pokemon break.
Me: Lol. That sounds like something I would say.
@Dixon Cox : I've always thought it was lava ::shrug:: I was told it wasn't by some viewers back on the actual Shadow Man vid, but I'm not sure a clear consensus was ever reached as to what it IS.
I knew something like this stage was going to be a BIG problem due to reflexes needed. I sometimes wonder if they really intended on that hit box on the leaf shield being big enough that precise platform jumping is always needed... Either way I sure if you can do this, you can definitely finish the rest of them.
Lord help you Roahm when you get to that stage. I wish you luck and I wish I could send you a Met with a rice cooker function.
the absolute craziest thing about this is that you do live commentary so you've probably had to narrate the same bloody sections hundreds of times.
itook adri nk every timeyou said "epic dodge maneu8ver' during the outtakes and now iam drunkk
Huh... that info on the Doc Robot is interesting. They are somewhat revived versions of 2's Robot Masters.
Haha, I`m not surprised Spark Man revisited is taking the longest, since you-know-who is in that stage: the nightmare robot master!
Nice using one Pokemon from each generation in the example; plus I noticed the background colors.
Also, I've noticed that the Wily Wars version of those "trapdoor" platforms have a delay to them and an almost sluggish movement to them. Perhaps you could show that off next time they appear?
I can't WAIT for doc quick.... Oh i will enjoy watching it... Oh so much... >:3
@PiEiNtHeFaCe22 : Oof, felt like that, but more painful... I lost track of how many times it took, those definitely weren't ALL the failed takes.
Wood Man finally got his revenge over Quickman...
@NotEntirelySure : Yeaaaaaah, so not looking forward to Doc Quick, that's going to be quite troublesome. At least I have the basic idea of how to get around Doc Flash, so now it's just a matter of putting it into practice.
I can't believe it's already been a year! So much has happened since then.
Next week it's going to be 4 years...
@@Skallva now it's 6 years, I think? I'm bad with numbers.
Ah I see. Well with all the outtakes you show us, it's no wonder you would have all you want to say stuck in your head.
