1:12 Notice how the bald general walks like Putin. One hand sticks to pocket while other swings. This walk is also known as Gun Slinger's gait (Ex KGB Spy Trait)
Movie detail! at 1:08 as they're exiting the building notice that they only move his left arm while walking. It's a gait term called “gunslinger’s gait,” may result from a behavioral adaptation, possibly triggered by KGB or other forms of weapons training where trainees are taught to keep their right hand close to the chest while walking, allowing them to quickly draw a gun when faced with a foe. This should be included in the differential diagnosis of a unilaterally reduced arm swing.
Hmm, never heard of that gait deviation before, I guess it hasn't been elucidated before coming from Brunnstrom's CK. Though, if it were included in the differential it has to be confirmed to be pathological rather than habitual, it can be written as a suspected monoplegia or even PD depending on the laterality of the affected extremity.
This scene was an absolutely AMAZING opening. The music, visuals, everything. I gets you hooked right off the bat. The only critiques I could have are how they kill a valuable scientist, and how I suppose the grittiness might be over the top? But it's a show and 80's homage, so it's understandable.

I'm the only one in the world who got to hear this opening at least 10x the night before the premier for the tech screenings And able to watch both intros for the main house and overflow theater outside...lets just say that Song sounds awesome when being blasted out of 30 mega speakers! Pretty sure all of Santa Monica was rumbling that night.
Except in this time period it wasn't a Red Army anymore. It was renamed simply to Soviet Army. There's even "СА" written on the shoulders of the soldiers' uniforms, which stands for "Советская Армия" (Soviet Army). BTW, "Soviet Russia" is a bullshit. USSR and Russia are two completely different things.
I was privileged enough to work the test screening for the premier and of course the primer itself. They played this intro some 20x that night, let me just say the speakers they had in the theater and the overflow outdoor amphitheater were awesome! Only one in the world who can claim this :D
For anyone wondering, the song played in the scene is a russian take on a polish song called warzsawianka (Varchavianka or Варшавянка in russian). It's performed by the red army choir. Man, they really know what good music is..
I'm from Russia, and I was damn surprised when I went to the comments on this video. "Mysterious Events" is my favorite series and it was nice to see "Russians" in it. Alexey is just a gun!❤

Wow that's Ilya Slovesnik! He was a composer in USSR in 80s. He also had a hit single Boroda (The Beard) which also has the best music video of all time. And when he migrated to US he changed his name to John Vodka.
I love how purposefully ambiguous they make the Russians until the end of the scene. You don’t see any flags/symbols, no writing on the documents, even the military uniform looks somewhat generic, and then they finally speak and the music kicks in. I was popping off once it hit a Cold War subplot - such an interesting time period. Also this general straight up pulled the “You have failed me for the last time. You are in command now, Admiral Piett.”
The one thing I don't like about Stranger Things are the weapons used. Appearance of most of them makes no sense. For example the Soviets (that's right - Soviets, not Russians) using yugoslav Zastavas in 7.62x39 when in 1980's their primary weapon that would make most sense in this scenario should be full length soviet made AKS-74 in 5.45x39 (AKS variant has folding stock, which would be great in narrow corridors and 5.45 is much better suited for usage against unarmored living targets).
1:13 one small detail i noticed the Soviet general was only moving his right hand it's common by the kgb to only move one hand and the other hand is ready to pull a gun just in case of sudden danger
