Thanks so much for the video! As someone just barely starting to truly dive into art history, your content is much appreciated. This series from Cole, in particular, fascinates me so much.
This was absolutely amazing. I cannot believe that a video with so much impact, depth, self reflection has only been seen by a few thousand people in the past few months. There is something impeccable in the delivery. I feel that many people including our own governments around the world would truly and genuinely benefit from watching this. Everyone’s in a rush these days, but the course of empire series and the innate foresight & hindsight it delivers could prove important for our future as a globalised civilisation. Thank you for making this. I wish we as a society could focus on things like this that benefit us more, than things meant to divide us.
This is truly a magnificent work. It's concise and accessible to non-artists. It's also unpretentious and doesn't court controversy like later artists. I'll take this over a urinal 10 times out of 10.
The ugly visage of modern day Carthage and Babylon perfectly illustrates by juxtaposition the entire thesis of Thomas Cole’s immortal Course of Empire as well as punctuates just what point of that course we are currently in.
These are beautiful paintings, an absolutely stunning series. Thanks for pointing out things in this video I hadn't noticed before.
This is one of the best kept secrets in NYC
