I moved from the US to Crete (Chania) a few years ago. I was born here, but lived in the US my whole life. Love the US, but Crete is truly a piece of heaven. Many come and decide to make this home. Rent is the most expensive around 400-800 euros is the average for a nice place, but if you have intentions on staying, there are great opportunities to build on a nice piece of plot land. Food runs around 50 euros for dinner for 2 with wine. or about 8euros a person for delivery. Happy exploring :)
Is it true you have to reside part of the year in US in order to get social security?
@@accobra4272 No, social security (pension) check can be mailed to you even if you reside overseas, It's your money after all! However, I don't think you would qualify for SSI or SSD benefits if you don't reside in the US. And ofcourse not food stamps or other US welfare benefits...
Hello! I love Chania!! I visit every summer. Which area would you recommend, not too far from town, for renting an apartment all year round? For now, I would only stay for 2 moths in the summer. Thanks!
@@despinakouremenos9600 hi! If you want to be near town but not in it, my first pick would be Koum Kapi and my 2nd would be Nea Hora. They are on opposites sides of the town within walking distance however. Around 2 km to where the action is. And so a car is not necessary…hope this helps. Happy exploring 🏝
@@VictoriaJ1111 Thanks Victoria! I love Nea Hora, it’s close to everything! What’s the best way to find a place there? Local newspapers online?
I'm from Crete and I just knew that my home would be number one. I love it and I truly wouldn't change it for the world. Greetings from Rethymno!
🇬🇷♥️
You are right about Crete. We long to reside there. We are going to visit in the Winter to see if it's still livable.
@@dwaynehall6356 Ι have been to Crete many times and yes I am Greek, Crete is like a country on its own. Fully independent from the main land, and even has one of the best hospitals in Greece, so yes you can live all year in this amazing island.
Crete is the most beautiful place in the world. At least for me.
Was there in June for the first time.. loved it
No matter where you choose to live in Greece, you will always be in close proximity to both mountains and sea, to tasty food and friendly people, to historical sites and rich culture. Greece is one of a kind. You could live your entire life here and not regret it.
Greece is one of the most beautiful countries in the world and very affortable place to live and retire
Not if you're Greek lol
Greece it is the most beautiful country in the world😉😎
Not if you are native.
omg greece is so beautiful.i cant get enough from this country.everything is perfect there.i love the land, sea, sky, weather, food, culture, people, night life.
maybe greece is at economic peek for many years but the quality of life is way better there than many other north european countries.trust me i am north european and my best times at my life are the 40 days of my vacations to this magical country with the best people by far.
greeks will never let you down and you always feel safe with them.never met people like them at my entire life and i been at 24 countries so far.
my best experience at greece was at peloponese.stuning place
Σας ευχαριστούμε πολύ ❤
So happy to see that the beautiful island of Lesvos made the list. Unlike many other islands, because there is a university, the island has a pulse throughout the winter. If you are looking for authentic Greece, fabulous food, affordable restaurants, history, nature, adventure....Lesvos has it all!
But , sometime ago, there were news that Lesvos is ruined by migrants., entering people's homes, cutting hundreds years old olives, smashing all empty houses, people living there all year round not being able to protect their homes.
Is there health care ?
Back around 2000 we owned a few restaurants and nightclubs there. I was one of the best times my life. It’s such an underrated island. No thieving or crime at all then. Sweet people.
Kastoria is also a wonderful place to retire! Kastoria has a big community of Greek Americans, direct contact with nature and is walkable (when it is not freezing during the winter). The only downside for someone who wants to retire there is that its hospital is not exactly what you are looking for.
Actually is heaven on earth.
I study in Kastoria with an amazing lake view from my house and the main city in the middle ,it's beautiful..
Kastoria it's great 👌
I love how you said that the weather is bad in winter but it’s actually the opposite😂
@@Lisa-zi6hb Well, 20 years living in Kastoria have given me enough experience to say so
THIS is the summary of the rent vs buy decision I’ve been trying to figure out for years. The rental income vs mortgage payment calculation never made sense to me. But this is much more logical and makes far more sense. Thank you for simplifying this!
Most people are unable to handle a fall since they are accustomed to bull markets, but if you know where to look and how to get around, you can profit handsomely. It depends on your entry and exit strategy.
Nafplio in Pelopponese is also a great choice for living, the first capital of Greece with a lot of wonderfull places to look at
Its my favorite town in Greece
The first capital of Greece was Aigina
This is where I want to come in 2026 and hopefully retire there. I would like to know if there are any communities of non Greek people in these areas
@@tonya3442You must not isolate yourself from the warm Greek people.
Agios Nikolaos in Crete & that area is a v nice. Long summers... as long as you don't mind the summer winds (at least they are cooling). Beautiful mountains beside the deep blue med 👍
I've sailed the islands for the last 5 years, still favour Crete for living.
Agios Nicolaos in the region of lasithi of crete is the ideal place for 1.those who don't like a weather with lots of moisture and 2. for an amazing sea view.
I have been there for several years and regarding the wind is nothing compared to neapolis( a province nearby)
I visited in May 2024. It's a nice place with very friendly people
Volos is also an amazing greek city with countless beaches both in Pagasitikos bay and Agean sea. It also has an international airport and a big port with ferries to Skiathos, Skopelos and Allonisos islands. And is under the shadow of Pelion the mountain of Centaurus. The food here is amazing and many Europeans have properties in the many picturesque villages of Pelion!!
Kavala is an awesome place to retire. One of the most beautiful cities in Greece, stunning beaches and excellent local seafood, the perfect town size (not too large, neither too small), good local health & services for seniors, all at affordable cost. Thassos is an amazing destination for short trips if you live there (can even be done on a rented sailboat). Great winter resorts in northern Greece or southern Bulgaria are also in close proximity. Most of it's younger residents speak english, some speak german or french. Great access on motorways and a few international flights from it's local airport too (but mostly during the touristy months atm). I believe it's not attracting larger crowds because not many people are aware of it.
I'm from Thessaloniki and I would recommend my city as its close to Chalkidiki peninsula (combines mount scenery and forests along with emerald waters at affordable prices, especially at the middle "foot" as the 1st "foot" isnt quiet at all) plus its rly close to Mt Athos, a globally unique religious experience but only for male visitors, and within close proximity to other Balkan countries for easy and CHEAP weekend trips) Ithaca (quiet with amazing scenery, you may lose yourself by the beauty of this place) Crete (have it all, big and small, ancient, traditional or modem, you name it) Thasos and Lefkada (excellent connection to mainland with low prices esp for Thasos) Ikaria (unique in every way possible + world champion of long life) with minimum touristic industry. For those looking something away from the crowds at the shores Epirus and Central Greece holds some gorgeous mountains, rivers so clean that you can drink their waters without any concerns with iconic stone build villages and bridges that would blow your mind if you re an nature lover. Ioannina with its lake island and Parga as main places to check with close 3rd and 4th places Litochoro (Mt Olympus small town) and Karpenisi with its mountains and a unique "πανταβρεχει" ie foreverrains small iconic waterfall to discover by hike through a small gorge
If I ever move to Greece , I will live in a sail boat and travel year around in the aegean sea.
I work in construction building bathrooms and tiling would you know how is it to live and work daily as a tradesman?
I'm coming to Nikiti next week 7thMay 2024 (nearest place to Thessalloniki I could afford) and looking forward to discovering the beauty of your country.
@@sandie321 explore the near-by beaches dont stay in the village all the time, just use it as a base. Many unknown treasures waiting to be discovered esp between middle foot and Agion Oros - Holy Mountain ie snorkeling paradises. I wont say more, you need to find out yourself to feel the experience, good luck hope you discover more than i ever did 🙂 do come back and share your experiences if its not a trouble as feedback from a third persons perspective is always valuable
Thx,always liked the people too
Thanks for uploading this wonderful video.

Weird reference to the 'gloomy suburbs' of Athens. Gloom is not exactly an attribute that Mediterranean cities are renowned for. And suburbs such as Glyfada, Voula, Vouliagmeni, Psyhiko, Filothei, Halandri, Maroussi and Kifissia have been appealing to expats and retirees for decades (although don't expect property bargains).
exactly
Well you havent been to The poorest suburbs obviously...
Too expensive for me
For Green hearts sake !
Kavala is where i live i am so happy that there is a list that has my city.
Εγώ είμαι από πυργοχωρι και χαίρομαι που έχει μια πόλη από τα κοντά μας!Τώρα μένω Θεσσαλονίκη

If you are over 65 and plan to retire in Greece you need to consider the distance to big airport to let your children easier visit you, distance to large private clinic / hospital to help health issues recovery, easy access to your house without million ladders and steep slopes, not to be close to forest due to fire risk. May be focus your search on north to avoid killing heat in summer. And be ready to spend 5-9 months to buy a house due to bureaucracy as we did. And be ready to very low quality of houses.
Nea Proponditha is the bomb. That's were I'll be spending my retirement, May through September. Chicago for a month or two, then Thessaloniki. I've already set myself up with properties, my next move once I'm there full time, which should be in a couple of years is to get a boat. The Chalkidiki area is awesome for that.
So you have to live in US part of the year in order to get social security from US?
@@accobra4272 - no but social security is peanuts
I always loved Greece and I would like to retire in Greece but for many Greeks life is tough. I would like to integrate and contribute something to the local community, a simple life, not just for my own convenience.
I've been to Greece several times, and the two things I love most about the country, is the friendly people and the food - oh my god the food... :)
If I was to retire to Greece, I would probably find a small village on Corfu, with a few restaurants that are open all year, and situated by the sea. That's actually something I've seriously thought about, and may end up doing, since I'm single and can do what the heck I want. Since I'm Norwegian, my pension will be more than enough to cover the costs when the time comes.
I would NEVER EVER move to Athens, though. It has a few beautiful sights, but overall it's not a beautiful city, actually quite the opposite, imo. But there are thousands of other incredible places in Greece, so finding a great place to move to, wouldn't be a problem at all. Btw, wouldn't move to Crete either - been there a few times, and it's super-expensive compared to the rest of the country, and it has a lot of half-desert-ish and stoney landscape that doesn't appeal much to me. Many beautiful towns, though, but they're too crowded by tourists in the summer.
I feel the same about Athens, Im from Canada but I have a condo in Sparta, I might fully retire there. I could live and eat like a King down there. The best food man. The people in Sparta are super chill. You can go to cafe, leave your phone on the table go to the bathroom come back, your phone is going to be on that table. Its very safe. The only thing, i have to drive 40 min to the closest beach.
Lepse vam je na Peloponezu,a i nekretnine su jeftinije.I ja sam penzionerka,i planiram da kupim neku kucu u Grckoj.Ako hocete da upoznate pravu Grcku, onda je to Peloponezu
I'm so glad I found your comment! I'm from Norway too, and have desided to move to Greece and retire there.
Would be so helpfull to have a chat with you because I dont know where to even start. 😅
I would appreciate it so much if you reached out. Since you have been to Greece before and you're from the same country as me, I would truly appreciate the help 🙏💝🌹
Try the winter in Corfu. It’s seriously damp. It’s a dilemma if you want a green island to live on.
Very true
Please make a video on the 12 best places to live or retire as a Greek comfortably as well cause with all this influx of money raising the prices, living expenses will become unbearable for locals. Probably Uganda or Namibia will be up there.
Facts.
Just stop overcharging foreigners. Problem solved.
Where best for low income pension people?
I’m from Greece and I love my life in Athens
Crete and ikaria is the answer
Karpenisi is a wonderful place to live if you like mountains, nature and rivers
What about healthcare?
Thanks for making this interesting video
WELL AS A GREEK I CAN SAY THAT OUR COUNTRY IS PERFECT AND VERY CHEAP FOR THE FOREIGNERS RETIRED TO LIVE,THE LOCALS CAN'T BECAUSE THEIR PENSIONS ARE VERY LOW BUT CAN'T LEAVE EITHER!!!
So what s the solution
Thx for sharing, been struggling where to live since I need hospital nearby
As long as you enter the country legally, respect the culture, traditions and LAWS ....well why not....
And learn the language
@@Stavraetina we try but is very difficult,we sure take a personel teacher!
Thank you for the great video! Can you continue to add the cost-of-living statistics for all the cities you mention?
we want to move and retire in rhodos.been there many times and we love it,also my wife and me have a bad back and the warm sun is so good for us that my wife, who is in a wheelchair, use last medicen..
Thank you for the fine video. I would only like to object to 2 things: 1) distance between Athens and Lefkada is not 120 km., it is actually 351 km.;
And 2) Thessaloniki is the biggest city of Macedonia, the biggest (contemporary) Greek region (other major regions being Peloponnese, Thessaly, Continental Greece, Crete, Epirus, etc.), and with a Greek history of millenia, and has probably not much to do with the country lately called North Macedonia.
Finally someone put an underrated city in the list, where I live
My island, Crete ❤️❤️❤️
You got to check out Chíos & Samos 🚀
Respect Greeks
As my maternal grandfather came to the US in 1906 from Lesvos, I am very much considering that island. I know that I have relatives there mainly in Mantamados. I would be interested in knowing them since there wasn't any communication due to my grandfather's passing in 1948. I was born in 1955. I'm frankly tired of the US and wish to live the rest of my life in peace in a place where there are enough amenities.
Thank you for this video.
Back around 2,000 we Americans along with some Greek partners owned some restaurants and nightclubs there. It’s still probably not over developed. The island is large and devise with its geography and terrain. The people were wonderful. It’s extremely laid back.
@@eddievonpapen6306Thank you my friend! I'll keep your comment in mind.
Retire in Drama if you love rivers, Mountains and forests
The Peloponnese region is home to great beaches, amazing historical landmarks, lower cost of living, a mild climate and only a few hours away from Athens by car. Kalamata is my favorite!
The distance between Athens and Lefkada is 337km not 120! And a lot of places that you mentioned do not have proper hospitals and you can’t live on the budget that you mentioned. Get your facts straight!
Thx so much, exactly what I needed to know
@@Fegga1955that5he American way of doing 😊things!
I am only thirty but I feel like I am already planning retirement in Greece. To me there is no other country where I would rather spent my free time.
Nafplio, Preveza, Volos, Parga, Nafpaktos, but yeah, Crete has to be #1 option.
Is it warm enough in April to go to the beach and maybe swim? Or is it too cold still?
Some years Yes, some years No. Pray to the nature spirits, hihi
it depends on the region. Southern Greece and the islands are warmer than Nothern Greece (Macedonia, Thrace, Epirus regions). For example, in Athens, many people start going to the beach in March, but in Thessaloniki (Nothern Greece) they start later.
@@mariosathens1 Thank you for the answer. It makes sense, I now realize my question was very general.
@@ab222 Thank you 🙂
Depends on what you think is cold.
CRETE CRETE AND ONLY CRETE !! I am italian and have my house in Akrotiri near Chania. Just love to stay there between sea and mountains in a small village. God bless Crete and all the Greeks at the same time.!
Can we stop please telling people online how gloomy some neighborhoods are in Greece or other European cities.. At least you don't get murdered there. New York City is a battlefield compared to the gloomiest of neighborhood in the most dangerous countries in Europe. Athens is safer than Stockholm, Berlin, London, Rome, Brussels, Wien , Oslo, Frankfurt and many other big European cities. We have a lot of graffiti, but that doesn't mean it's a "gangsta paradise".
Well I'm from Rhodes, and I can understand why people want to make the move to some of these places.
As for Rhodes you can expect the most expensive to the very cheap for land and homes. It's a big island and has something for everyone. It already has many people from around the world who live here. The best part is the weather and the ability to fly directly to other places in Europe. Good luck with your search.
we will try to move to rhodos..when we come back in aug.then we talk with our friends who own a resort in rhodos and see if we can rent..i can,t work anymore so the warm weather is so good for my wife and me because of bad backs..we are 64 years old..we want to retire there so much!
@@willemvdspek You have a huge selection, so take your time and get yourself the best choices. You can be sure that your problem with your back will improve with the warmer weather here. Good luck 🤞
Actually unemployment in Athens (and for Greece as a whole) has dropped to record low levels, 11% for the whole country, down from a national record peak of 28% ten years ago (and keeps falling sharply, whereas for Athens it stands at around 9%, down from nearly 30% ten years ago as the economy has picked up steam over the past 3 years and left the crisis of the previous decade behind). In the meantime businesses are searching for employees and they cant find enough despite the fact that hundreds of thousands of younger Greeks who had left in search of job elsewhere in Europe are returning, so businesses are trying to find foreign ones. Finally, allow me to add that Athens has an amazing sprawl of middle and upper middle class suburbs with great infrastructure and amenities along the coast, the east and the northeast off the main center (which is fast being gentrified). Crime rate is relatively low, as you rightly mentioned (and I hope it stays that way). I also love the international permanent population from all over the world and ethnic neighborhoods (African, Indian, Middle Eastern and Chinese). These people are pivotal in turning semi-abandoned gritty Athenian districts into lively places to explore and eat and visitors are fast taking notice. I also love Kalamata and Thessaloniki (it also starts having an increasing international permanent local population) and of course CRETE!
I'm thinking of moving with my family from the UK to Greece, as we can work remotely. Apart from Athens, do you know where there are good international English schools for children (aged 3 and 7)?
Only around Athens sorry… And Thessaloniki probably. Major cities have got international schools. But there are beautiful suburbs away from the noise of the capital and very close to these schools.
@@lialife8263 Thanks. How about the School of European Education Heraklion in Crete? It seems also to be free? Have you heard about it?
Which has the best hospital for us old folks?

It’s worth mentioning that The Greek Golden Visa program’s minimum investment has increased to 500,000 EUR, effective May 1st, 2023. Greece Golden Visa change applies geographical limits to real estate investments, affecting properties in specific municipalities in Athens, Thessaloniki, Mykonos, and Santorini.
I'm Greek Thracian living in London UK, the problem is salary, as long as you have a good income, you can live like a king in Greece.
Absolutley overseas income or digital nomad, provided you dont reside in tourist areas and own your home or even rent you live very comfortable
What are the seasons climate in Greece ??
Summer gets pretty hot overall (around 30 C) but for the rest of the year It depends on the region and there are different microclimates as well.
In general northern Greece has significant rainfall and intense winters while southern Greece experiences mild winters overall.
For example Crete averages more than 300 days of sunshine annually.
Same thing as Spain, Italy and all the countries of the south Europe
See also Volos and pilion
I agree we have a beach house in the agia region, great local community, no F tourists, its heaven by the sea
Very cheep & beautiful island for retirement is Leros in the Dodecanese.
Personally I prefer Astypalea, because i'm in deep love with that magic island, but unfortunately has become one of the most expensive in the Aegean and I speak mostly on buying a house or just a plot... don't thinking on that anymore.
On my island Lesvos, I prefer the southern coasts from Tarti & Plomari till the westernmost South coasts of Tavari & Eressos!!! These places in my opinion are having the best natural energy for your soul, because these are the most sunny cause are looking towards the most southern archipelago. Also Molyvos is a preserved masterpiece traditional settlement & looking southwards to the rest west island, but a more expensive one.
I can't miss also the beautiful small settlement of Sigri, the most Aegean whitewashed looking settlement on the island, with an open sea positive energy, on the westernmost point of Lesvos and having a new constructed ferry port!!!
Crete is one of the best places for retirement, cause its climate, especially the south part of the island which has the most wild "face" & for it's a huge island with many chances.
Also I love very much Tinos island in the northern Cyclades. It's an architecture cycladic diamond with many beautiful small villages & nice "calm" nature (not very green or very arid)!!!
The rest of the most appropriate islands are Amorgos, Kythira, Kea, Andros, Kythnos, Skyros, Sifnos & of course... Icaria!!! In Chios island I like mostly the southern medieval villages, which are the most preserved & traditional with their vast mastic cultivations around... a magic place to be!!!
The first time I traveled to Greece was October 1985. It was an overwhelmingly pleasant experience traveling around there for almost half a year. The climate, the landscapes and certainly the very hospitable people (especially in the small villages) plus the irresistibly delicious food and drink, no wonder the gods had their place there. Who wouldn't want to live there?
Thank you!!
Crete is the pick if you want to stay on a island to retire, othewrwise the mainland is overall better
good video
As someone who works remotely, does anyone know if Crete has good internet?
Yes, Vodafone have mifi which is fast but I would still take a 4g meter app on your phone to test reception where you plan to live, some remote areas still have poor reception. I was going to move to one village where my readings showed nothing so chose a village where it was stronger. Vodafone was €20 for 200GB, this was last year so it may have better offers. Either this or landline but then you’ll have to ask a local regarding reception and speed. Oh and get a vpn.
@@Mike-hg1fn This was super helpful. Thanks Mike!
i leave in Greece the bst placs in row in my view is Pilio, Thessaloniki,Chania(Crete) Corfu , Rodes ,Athens

Only Americans and Canadians must stay up to 90 days. Citizens from an EU member state don't need a visa or resident permit because they are European citizens, they can work, retire, stay, and open business free. All EU citizens and their family members have the right to move and reside freely within the EU
Are you sure?
Beautiful may be but better option is Portugal weather is mostly sunny and don't have cold winters as Greece has and is cheap by western standards - - sardines are delicious
What about Portugal and Greece? My wife is Portuguese and has a house in Portugal and I am Greek we have a place in Peloponesos, in Evia near Chalcis. ....We will use both places as both countries are wonderful with wonderful hospitality! Either way one cant lose, just as long as we get away from the Canadian winters.
Kalamata is one of the best places to live in Greece
But it's much too hot half of the time! I need something with a more temperate climate and varying seasons.
Good❤
KALAMATA ❤
Nafplio is where id like to live, but it seems hard to find work there as an soon to be expat from sweden
You don't move to Greece for work. Their unemployment rates are very high.
You saying Thessaloniki, a city with a 1000 year old history is influenced by a 20 year old country is atmost disrespectful
Since you addressing to retirees you should stress that Greece, especially the countryside, is very safe, random crime virtually unknown. Also, we have a world class health care system, with abundance of very competent doctors of any specialization and Hospitals that can provide very high quality health care for free …. Yes, Greeks bitch, moan and complain all the time about our Health care system but trust me, its one of the best. They cannot resurrect the dead, but I can testify on multiple occasions, including my case, they came really close ...
You know there is a saying about Amfissa hospital thought...Once you get there with a headache you get out with a Coma. Basically half of western central country has to go to Patras for serious medical stuff.
A friend of mine is a Greek professional working here in Germany. After a cancer scare, she said she was convinced that doctors in Greece were far superior. Medical technology is better financed in Germany, but the attitude of doctors, including how much time they can spend on a patient, is apparently much better in Greece.
Athens should be judjed per neighbourhood. Nea Smyrni, Pagkrati, Neos Kosmos etc. could be considered good. Crete is a vast place. Chania, Rethymno and Irakleio provide everything. That's not the case for the rest of Crete. There are other nice places, like Palaeochora, that are very quiet during winter time. You missed cities that provide everything, such as Alexandroupolis, Xanthi, Volos, Ioannina, Ermoupolis etc.
🇬🇷🇬🇷🇬🇷♥️♥️♥️
You put Lefkada but actually, Preveza, next to Lefkada is far better o live. It is a bigger city, just as beautiful. It is touristy as well in summer but not as much as Lefkada, which btw has become unbearable in summer months and if you want to visit Lefkada, it's only half an hour away by car.
Where is Nafplio;
Στην Πελοπόννησο είναι!

I have heard some good things of Igoumenitsa, anybody else?
Make your research correct EU members, they can stay is to Greece as long as they like Canada and USA yes and 90 days.

No Kως on the list? 😢
i would give a like but you failed to mention Xanthi bro! google our gold sand beaches, Nestos river, and Rodopi mountains yourself besides being one of the best municipalities in Greece when it comes to infrastructure. oh, and literally half the price for what you'd pay for rent in those touristy places!
Lots of good options.
Go to smaller areas.
I want to retire in Greece.
Me too
Be careful from real estate scammers, they're too many now and if he says the house or land or appartemen cost 100k that means it is 45k, I know two poor German families got scammed in Crete 370k for a piece of land and still they have to pay taxes and more money and to buy a license to build it will cost you an arm and a leg and maybe your heart even.
Indeed.....:)
What town is the thumbnail ?
Kavala
Kavala I live in that city
Kavala
As a Dane, I do not need a visa- I can live and work in all EU countries without one.
Chios is nice place not to tourists ones that do have local ties.
Kalambaka is one of the best places,or even trikala
surprisingly wonderful considering it is not by the sea. I loved my visit there. We went to see Meteora and it was so beautiful in that area that we spent a week discovering Kalabaka and Trikala.!
What about the weather in winter time wich place is the Best i need hot and sunny
FYROM, Not North macedonia.
Alexandroupoli also
Visitors from EU countries can stay indefinitely I think. Probably you mean from US and Canada is 90 days.
Check out Kastoria...
very affortable place to live and retire
Not for natives thought.
Older people need decent healthcare and such a thing is non-existent in the smaller Greek Iskands.
Except Crete , I would suggest not to retire in islands . They are very beautiful but health services are not top notch there . Better stick with the mainland
With my $1200 retirement paycheck once I got retired several years ago I moved to Russia looking for a cheaper place to retire. Africa could be the cheapest, but not a desirable place to retire, but in Russia I found acceptable life where my income was more than enough. There were nice relationships between the US and Russia at that time so I did not expect any trouble. However three months ago my retirement payments have been stopped without explanations and Social Security has not responded anymore. I find myself trapped in a foreign country having no sustenance. On the other hand I am too old and weak to resettle again. I don't have power and money to move anywhere else. I can only go to the street begging in a foreign country. The government has defrauded me. Don't trust them. They are swindlers.
Oh my God 😮I hope you figure out a way to solve this. I'm so sorry.
I told my story not to hear expressions of compassion on me. I wanted to tell people what kind of country the US is. I am still alive because I live in Russia, but another US's citizen Gonzalo Lira in Ukraine was bitten to death in jail.

Λυπάμαι πολύ γι αυτό που σας συμβαίνει...ελπίζω να βρεθεί μια λύση κ να ζήσετε όπως πριν...υγεία κ τύχη από Ελλάδα 🙏🙏🙏
If you make another one of this lists make sure to include Pyrgos it’s a beautiful city and safe
However beautiful Greece may be, it is not a place for digital nomads, as it has one of the slowest and more expensive internet connection in Europe!
Sooo true. Makes me sometimes going crazy, especially during summer peak.
Then you ll have to adapt to slower Wifi apparently...
I spend the summers in the middle of nowhere on Crete and the internet is MUCH cheaper and better than what I get in Canada. Just saying.
And not only that. Everything is. I'm Greek, but I'm not a liar.
A video totally forgetting Nafplio-Porto-heli-Corinth (the actual first capital of Greece, where Germans and Brittish expats have already invested) and Alexandroupoli (a US Navy fleet hub and LNG hub investment spot, near Kavala).... Athens and Thesaloniki should not be in this list!!
