    The five coolest TT you sell....but maybe not the best overall, in each price range.
    I noticed you left out the German built Clearaudio turntables and cartridges.
    I have a few Mobile Fidelity half speed recorded LP's (from the '80's) I would not say they're better than 180, 200 gram LP's I've bought since.

    I like TT2 signature turntable more, it has a lot more power and grunt and is more revealing, these are all okay but too polite and safe for my taste. I want to feel as if the music is being summoned from another galaxy and is about to eat me, while still being pleasant.

    Why don't they make a groove for the belt to ride securely on?

    • @christopherward5065
      @christopherward5065 5 лет назад +4

      Roberto Rodríguez a groove can cause the platter speed to vary. If the belt wanders on a flat surface on the platter or, a sub-platter, as the record plays the speed of the turn stays constant.
      If the belt ran in a groove on the platter/ sub-platter and sometimes passed in and out of the groove, belt tension would change and the ratio between the drive pulley circumferences would change. It would be like changing crank cogs on a bike, the big cog would make you pedal more slowly than a small cog to maintain the same speed of travel. The turntable with a groove would slow down when the belt leaves the groove and return to speed when the belt enters the groove and you would hear that as ‘wow’ (the pitch shifts down and up audibly rather than staying constant).

    Pretty sure the AT-LP5 is better than the Music Hall. The others look far above what most people are looking for irt price.

    The best tables still are built in Germany imho.
    And I am not even German.

    Belt drives without quartz speed ctl have terrible wow & flutter. Every 50 hrs of rotation the belt changes tension. At 500 hrs use at least 25% of belt tension is compromised.

    The best that money can buy? Even VPI makes 5 tables that out perform this one. The Prime is maybe the best 4K can buy.

    There is simply no point in trading in a upper middle class vintage deck for this, even for 20% discount.
    Instead of reinventing the wheel on a yearly basis, producers should focus on quality and comfort enhancement.
    Probably then we are in a a couple years there where we were in 1980.

    VPI is also a really really good company, btw. vpi "traveler " is about $1k with a headphone jack, ortofon red and a mm phono stage. it looks cool too. Stereophile reviewer tried it with a better ortofon cartridge and lo, it was well worth it, of which I have no doubt, so do that - put a better ortofon on it. Having owned the rega 25 and P9 [lifeless], an expensive vpi 4/ et2 air arm [very airy, but fussy], and an lp12/ekos/archiv/mana [not fussy, v. great on classical], I think the middle range tables shown here stuff is a really bad move. Mot the money is going to making the table ook spiffy with no sound improvement over a dull rega. If you have 1k+ LPs, get an air amed table [wonderfully costly] or an LP12 [upgrade-able]. If you are reading this you probably just have a 100 or so ragged lps so go with a Traveler. MESSAGE TO VPI : offer a "Traveler, First Class" [ price varies according to selected options - better tonearm, phono stage and wiring, cartridges inc MC].

    Shinola sells overpriced watches, now they are selling overpriced turntables?

      They sell overpriced watches made from foreign parts and assembled in Detroit while claiming the 'made in Detroit' honors. I wouldn't trust anything they sell.
