I watched this anime in HS, forgot about it, and lived like the MC during the pandemic. Had a massive mental breakdown, pulled inward, pushed others away. On the other side things have finally gotten better. Seeing this takes me back to binging anime and games, ignoring everything else. Being able to accept past mistakes and forgive myself instead of running and being alone.. It's been a ride. Thanks for the good vid.

To me it feels like it was made by someone who never was or was barely a hikki. Way too optimistic and simple. Honestly feels like the creator is insulting and looking down.
No one cares, which is why this has become an epidemic across the planet and whats worse is that instead of at least being understanding people just want to feel superior even tho theyre barely better off.

The creator lived as a hikkikomori for so long his life and relationships deteriorated and he feels ashamed of living off of his royalties, while not creating new work. regularly struggles with depression/ suicidal ideation among other illnesses.
his life went into the toilet for a long while, no idea how he's holding up now.

@@hydehg1441 sources and that sounds like after the manga for this was written. My point still stands the show is too suface level and gives basic responses while not tackling the depth of the issue and i say all this because no one is even allowed to get to the causes or get insulted into oblivion and written off.

@@NaturalSynthetic777 I'm not gonna scour the Internet for the interview from the author, if you're interested it's out there.
The "surface level" comment just seemed a little weird because the manga is from mostly one man's perspective and not intended to be much more than that.
As for the societal part you were mentioning, You're right about that. emotional scars are invisible, that's why the average person doesn't care about people struggling with being NEET/Hikkikomori. It's very easy to write others off as lazy or incompetent and feel superior instead of taking time to understand them.
Something I've noticed in life is that it's way too common for people to prop themselves up by looking down on someone else.
