A Moranbong Band performance to celebrate the 1st air force personnel conference

This is one of the Moranbong Band major concerts. It starts off in a solemn mode where the nation's founders are honored. In the song "Thinking of the General" even Mother Kim Jong-suk is personalized by Ra Yu-mi. Towards the end they gradually build up an atmosphere of unity, strength and willingness to give one's life for the nation and their leaders, aimed both at the air force pilots in the audience and the whole people watching on TV.
The term "pangchang" in the English subtitles (please, activate them if you want to know what they are singing) means "chamber vocal ensemble" or to perhaps be more precise "singing in the room but not on the front stage". I have previously published all songs individually, often with more explanations in the video description of the many symbols that appear throughout this concert. I think every fan of the Moranbong Band has got to admit that, if this concert is not the very best, it must be at least one of the best. From the lovely air force jackets the girls wear to the old MiG jet adorning the stage, all of it is so great! And Ri Myong-Hui's solo is overwhelmingly angelic! The way the songs have been ordered throughout this concert is indeed the best I've seen, with the quiet, beautiful and emotional songs at the start and the powerful and cheerful songs at the end (though I suppose putting "Sound of Horse Hooves on Mount Paektu" inbetween "Shine, Jong-il Peak" and "Thinking of the General" doesn't seem to have been the best decision musically, but these songs all share very similar symbolism as they all reference Mt. Paektu to an extent). It is sad because this will be one of the last opportunities for me to sing praise of this wonderful concert... It is one of the greatest showcasing of the Moranbong Band's musical abilities. To watch it in full in HD is a pleasure, Thank you.

By far the most masterful of all Moranbong band performances, probably the one where they showed off their artistic prowess the most. Could not count how many times I ended up listening to this particular concert, but its alot. Its a shame that they do not perform anymore, but its great that someone is keeping the spirit alive by archiving these videos, thank you. :)

Without a doubt one of their bests. It is impossible to spot any flaws except for maybe 1...Poor Kim Yu-Kyong is receiving virtually no camera attention except for perhaps 1 shot at the beginning and during "High Haul in the Sea", she went from one of the stars to invisible very quick...Nevertheless this has allowed other singers that are often kept in the 'pangchang' to rise forward and steal our hearts including the likes of Kim Sol-Mi with her high notes and Pak Son-Hyang with her joyful expressions.
This concert is surprisingly quite relevant to today - the focus on Mount Paektu and reverence to the leaders, happiness amongst the people, increased fish hauls but not forgetting that the military is still of great importance. Perhaps the Moranbong Electronic Ensemble will give us something like this at some point...

I like your thinking... the recently released song from the Moranbong Electronic Ensemble "The Sun and Star of my Heart" would indeed fit very well stylistically in this concert...
The NK art people have their own specific terms to name each type of artistic performance, and pangchang 방창 is one of them. There's also 독창, 중창, 합창, 독주, 경음악, 기악, 현악, 무반주합창 etc. It also indicates who or how many people are performing, 남성 for men, 녀성 for women and 혼성 for both.
So, 녀성4중창과 남성합창 would roughly translate to "Women quartet and Men background choir"
And those terms are just for musical performances.

Ja, bei so schöner Musik stirbt es sich vor Hunger gleich viel angenehmer. Das ist ein kleiner schöner Teil von Korea Nord. Es gibt weitere Teile wie Hungertod, Lagerfolter. Im sozialistischen Kollektiv kommt der einzelne Mensch nicht zu Gott, nur unter die Erde. Jeder Mensch ist aber einzigartig und ein Individium. Manchmal auch ein Teufel. Die Lieder sind sehr schön und machen Lust auf Kampf. Die grossen Chöre aus Russland trösten. Da kommen keine Kampf oder Erhabenheitsgefühle. Die Frauen sind hübsch und ihre Stimmen lieblich und alles ist perfekt, ohne den kleinsten Fehler,. Das klappt nur bei großer Angst! Sie sind so schön, das man sich verneigen muss. Schönheit ist das Größte auf Erden. Moranbong Band, Alles Gute!!!!
