- I attempted to film the next video in the Chosen One series and found myself chasing tangent after tangent....so instead of posting a 40 minute tutorial, I decided to give those tangents a video of there own. This is designed to compliment The Chosen One Bare Bone BULKhead Video and all following tutorials for the Chosen One.

Thanks for sharing those quick pro tying tips and tricks, I will definitely use them when I get those kits later this year and on other streamers. Looking forward to the next one. I love that firetiger color I can see a pike, muskie and smallie just smash that color and profile.

@@Gunnar_Brammer you are welcome. I can see it calling them in. I know a lake about an hour and a half drive from where I am where muskie and big smallies love orange and black. So I have heard. Need to get after them more myself. I would almost be tempted in putting an orange, black or chart smaller wiggle tail on the back of that to try alongside the standard for them toothie critters.

Thanks Gunnar, the pure white fuzz has been driving my crazy with its stiffness, I’ve thought about soaking it in fabric softener but have tried that yet. I thought maybe it was just me but your explanation makes sense.
Hope it help Ryan. Really work the stuff hard. Stonefly222 also commented about potentially wetting the material while working it in the loop to create that dense hackle slicked back hackle. It may be worth giving an attempt at.

I had the hardest time getting the "spinning head" correct. Oh well, I just did 3 revere stacks and an old fashion folded back "wool head" with the material. I don't think small mouth bass cares ... lol.

How do you not stick yourself with the hook points on a regular basis? Practice I guess. But I digress, as always a great video. Keep up the good work.
Haha... I stuck my thumb while filming this....but I didn't include it because it was during a side tangent about the peacock herl. I have holes all over my left thumb!
I have learned a tremendous amount from your RUclips videos and your excellent site. My question is: Would wetting the stiffer materials in your dubbing loop(re: Jerry French's excellent vid on the OPST channel on composite loops) hamper the trimming? I have used the wetting technique to compress stiffer synthetics( thank you Mr French) and was thinking it may be a useful step here, I imagine the trimming would then have to wait until it dried, From my experience it does help to get more material( if that is a goal) in a smaller place. Thank you so much for what you do!
Interesting...that is not something I've tried in recent history. I know I've seen that exact video before and had used the technique early on when dealing with strung fuzzy fiber but now I seemingly don't find the need to. You shouldn't have any problem trimming the Fuzz if you give it try, it won't hold any of the water and will be just as full as if you hadn't got it wet.

2 questions: If I am getting gaps when spinning the FF is it due not having enough tension? And when wrapping the preened back FF it seems to rotate when I let go to spin vise...is that the result of too tight of a dubbing loop due to overspinning?
Any reason for silicone on the eyes vs UV?
Hey Richard - Absolutely feel free to use UV, and apply a top coat over the eyes ect....For these "Bare Bones" videos I'm trying to keep things as simple as possible and the UV is an extra step and an extra expense. The Silicone does a good enough job to make it worth it, but I UV top coat will certainly help
Thanks for all your hard work! Would need to change anything to be able to scale this fly up to an 8” fly on a 4/0 hook for Muskie?
The Squimpish is perfect as is up to about 6". If you were to go Big with an 8" fly I'd recommend supporting with hollow ties of Bucktail so that the fly maintains its bulk.
