    I wanted to make some kind an ancient Greek song but I didn't know what it should sound like. So I made a mix of European medieval instruments and Persian instruments, since Greece is somewhere between Europe and Persia. Huge epic choirs, horns and percussions also. Obviously.
    This song was made with FL studio 10 with several different virtual instrument libraries (EastWest/Quantum Leap, Best Service, Bela D Media etc.).

      @@Jeqavy_Wavy In reality , Greeks (Hellenes) of 2 century before Christ , were inviting Romans to help them against their fights with other Greeks (Hellenes) , and they were inviting Romans exactly because they were not seeing them as something distant , but more like cousins. So they were calling their cousin to fight against their brother. Unfortunately.

      What does Νηριτός mean?

    • @Michael5iLVEr
      @Michael5iLVEr 6 лет назад +31

      @@ashwinmiyer6159 It's a name. In transcription from ancient Greek it's Nēritós and in transcription from modern Greek it's Nīritós. The macrons and the accents above the letters are optional.

    • @ashwinmiyer6159
      @ashwinmiyer6159 6 лет назад +2

      Thank you! But what do the macrons and accents indicate?

    • @Michael5iLVEr
      @Michael5iLVEr 6 лет назад +18

      @@ashwinmiyer6159 Macrons in ancient Greek showed that a vowel would be pronounced longer (macron = long). In modern-Greek-translitterations-to-Latin-letters it's there only for orthographical reasons, as there isn't really a distinction between long and short vowels. However, nowadays it's not in general use. See: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Romanization_of_Greek#Modern_Greek . Accents in ancient Greek showed when a syllable would be pronounced at a higher pitch (tónos = accent mark, pitch) than the others. There were three accents in AG, acute (oxeía) (like the symbol on the á), circumflex (perspoménē AG, perispoméni MG) (like the symbol on the ô/õ) and grave (bareîa) accent (like the symbol on the è). In modern Greek, pitch accent changed into stress accent and we use only the acute accent to show which syllable is stressed. For example, kafés (coffee) is stressed on the é, meaning that the syllable fés is louder than the syllable ka. I hope it isn't too confusing.

    I will never forget the kindness of a Greek gentleman who led an Englishman and his girlfriend on a cross-city walk that was out of this man's way to the only working cash machine on the island. As we walked this kind man told me a story about how the English had helped during WW2 and there was a cemetery dedicated to the joint loss. I love you Greece.

      About 15 years ago i was walking near a big temple in Chengdu, China, and this tall old chinese man looked at me as I was walking toward him; we locked eyes and he said "American!" He started telling me about flying planes with Americans in WW2 and was really happy saying how proud he had been to be chosen to fly with them and how he loved Murica. Conversation drifted to Dunkirk and all kinds of other WW2 stuff as the three other people I was with stood there completely clueless as to what we were talking about. He said he was looking forward to seeing his American comrades in the next life and was so happy. He said "soon enough." Then he walked his way and I walked mine. He's dead by now. Good guy. This brought that up.

    The Greeks had access to percussion instruments (drums, chimes, bells, or anything that you hit to make noise), pipes, and guitars (although their guitars were smaller and had a varied number of strings). Pipes and guitars seemed to be the most popular since they're in most of the art.
    Ancient Greek guitars are called Lyres, or Kitharas (kithara being where the word guitar comes from). Greek pipes were mostly flutes, pan-pipes and aulos (all of which were made from reed, wood, or bone). The Aulos are two pipes that are played simultaneously with each hand.

    The most important aspect of recreating ancient Greek music is the type of scale used and the simplicity of technique and arrangement. A simple lyre with voice sound can work providing it follows some principle of scale and tone of whichever ancient Greek time.

    You can say I’m a sort of ancient Greece weeb, you know, I study ancient Greek at high school in Italy at the Liceo Classico, and I really like the myths and all, I also like the idea of discovering how was and how was made the actual ancient Greek music, it could actually be different from what we imagine and what we know (but I don’t know if such studies were made yet). I’m also quite good at traducing semplified (it’s my first year) greek mythology (word that comes from ancient greek “Mythos (with the Theta)” ) and Omero’s tales. Wish me luck for my future studies!

    This song really took me on an adventure through ancient history.
    0:06 took me back to the time of ancient Egypt.
    at 0:42 I felt like I was right next to the Chinese Emperor pass down the law
    1:02 takes me back to Biblical Israel marching on Jericho
    2:08 feels like Sparta and Athens duking it out over the entire Pelopponesian and Delos.
    2:49 reminds me of Alexander chasing Dario all over the Achaemanid Empire.
    3:23 is like Xerxes marching on Greece will the full might of the Persian Empire.
    and then 4:37 is like the Roman Republic and Carthage duking it out over Hispania.
    and finally 5:16 is like Constantine in a procession in the newly built Constantinople.

    I'm a Greek. Nice track you made there with FL. The real ancient Greek song comes solely from a harp, a lyre, a bendir and a flute. Those are the very first instruments coming from the land of my ancestors.
    Try searching about Eleni Tsaousaki (harp) and Lina Palera (Lyre). Try out those guys from Lyre 'n' Rhapsody.
    Good luck out there. :D
    Peace from Greece.
