Good morning little late i know lol Dec 30 Monday i did a first time quilt as you go with out the sashing in string quilting came out ok i was afraid with my corners joining not too bad my friend tries to get me to rip but me old fashion thanks for doing this i like to know how to do like 5 inch squares in quilt as you go without sashing i used cotton batting from Newfoundland Canada we got lots of snow lol

    • @QuiltingWithNancy
      @QuiltingWithNancy  5 лет назад

Hi :) - I honestly wouldn't recommend doing 5" squares, maybe do at least a 4x4 layout, so it would be 20" square. Doing the joining without sashings is more difficult to get everything to match so i would believe you did it correctly, it just won't be ask smooth as if you put sashings. Which makes me think, why not? Why not do 20" squares with a 2" sashing, i think it would look cool - Happy Quilting - Nancy

I was introduced to quilting when my children were in nursery school, 1981 - 1983
I was co-chairing a fundraiser for our co-op nursery school. The little nursery school
had always done a quilt to raffle of at a weekend event when all the co-op nursery
schools of the area participated. (Co-op nursery schools were parent run and each
parent works a day or morning per week. Each parent takes on jobs to run the school)
Each mom dd a block in is fashion. Then the chair and I put the whole quilt together
it was a wonderful experience. That was my introduction to quilting.....a quilt as you go
    Process in 1982.

Hello Nancy and girls, forgive me not catching everyones names, but i want to thank you all for giving so much of your time and talent in give us so much expertise in quilting.
I wondered when i seen you wear a wonder woman actual bangle if you were of my wonder woman age group and i find that you would be my baby sister by a year, lol. Love the material and i can see why you would want to choose it, but i'm wondering whether it's going to see the top of your bed, or will Bill say "no way"? Hee hee hee. I think that the backing fabric you chose just jumped out at you to say "me, me, pick me, i'll be good with her".
I hope that you and the girls are having a lovely time weather wise at the moment and hope that you are able to do things freely again pretty soon. Across here in Scotland we are having the best weather we have had in years since spring, but of course until recently you couldn't actually enjoy it if your lived in a flat or tenament. We are really lucky in that we have a back garden, so we have that space to enjoy, but so many people don't.
Take care and crafty hugs, from Norah, Glenochil Village, Central Scotland

Hi, my first time to watch. God bless you! I'm an experienced sewer, quilter, but never did the quilt as you go before. I think I'm going to try it this year. I have several Quilts of Valor and Quilts of Love I need to do quickly (I'm very behind...and almost 68, so don't want time to run out.. Keep me going Lord, Thank you.). I laughed when u said, we'd ask God when we get to heaven, why after being so careful lining up the strips, why they're still off. It dawned on me, only now, AFTER ALL THESE YEARS, how many people have said in their lifetime what they planned on asking God when they get to heaven. Think about it... Truly, you have to laugh and hope He is going to have a sense of humor or have a specific way of telling us or perhaps a group of angels that only answer ALL OF OUR QUESTIONS we've had in our lifetime. The thought just made me laugh. He'll be shaking His head at me, for certain, saying, "Seriously, Lana, how many more questions do you have!!?? I don't even remember how many times I've said I'm asking Him this or that...but ALOT!!! lol You did a great job. Thanks for your fellowship and for going to spread God's word and love to other people throughout our world. Blessings to you, your family and friends. Travel safely, L :)

Good morning! Why are you not a fan of poly batting? I don't use it a lot either just wondering why you don't care for it. Just in spring from Ontario Canada.

Hi Janet, no problem. For me, the polyester batting has such and odd feel and with it being "plastic" I don't think it breaths like the natural fiber battings do so I don't like sleeping under them. And I like the way the cotton and cotton blends shrink a little to give the quilt more soft texture :) and I LOVE wool batting for bed quilts. There, that's all I have to say about that :)Nancy

I just used poly for the first time. I’m not liking how it gets caught on my foot.

@@QuiltingWithNancy I have to agree with you. I haven't tried the wool yet. My son would love it if its heavy. Is it?

Thank you for this. What is the technique you talked about to put the blocks together? Could you provide a link? I would love to do this as a lap quilt.

Hi Cynthia, here is the video for putting rows together - ruclips.net/video/cyTORHIoiQw/видео.html
and you could consider using the Easy Sashings for the blocks and rows - ruclips.net/video/FPfMIX3Q8Nw/видео.html

Hi Dawn, it can't actually. there is no mics available that work with live videos - well there is some but they cost over $500 so we can't get one - i will try to talk louder :)

I just want to thank you for ripping your fabric! It will be on the straight of the grain, which is very important!
