my grandpa in belgium had the fancier Nissan, the Bluebird (in sedan form, but there were also hatchbacks and even a turbo version I think) all of his life he bought Mercedes and the Volvos, but then he bought this one in 1989 and it stayed with him until 2003 when he had to retire from driving, these were really very high quality cars that stood the test of time.
it was funny to see how those nissan looked all alike, like it was very similar to the american sentra of the time, but it was not "the same" like the panels were kind of thicker , still had that same look kind of borrowed from the audi 100
I got 205 kmh out of a 95 year Mazda 323F 1.5.. It literally hit the rev limiter in 5th gear at 6500 rpm.. Best car ever and very reliable.. I would rate them above the Sunny and Corolla.
We had a 323P with the same engine, had 300K+ on the clock when we sold it. Still worked perfectly. However, all those Mazdas were killed by rust issues since then, except maybe the ones not driven in the winter or the ones in southern Europe. Not many new cars have as perfect manual transmissions as those old Mazdas.

We had the SGX 1.6 Sunny in our country. There was also a 1.3 and a 1.5 LX with less outer trim. Since the early 70's, when they were known as Datsun, the 1200 / Sunny could reach 100mph/160 kmh ! Traditionally, the Sunny/Sentra model was Nissan's best line of cars. Trinidad & Tobago. West Indies.

I drove a 1989 Nissan Sentra E with the same GA16i engine when it was new. 90HP was not a lot, but compared to the 70HP E16 engine 😂 in the 1988 model, it was a significant improvement! On economy cars back then, 3-speed automatics were very common. On manual transmission models, most cars had a 4-speed on the base model and only the mid/upper trim models had 5-speeds.
Was in Germany to get a Nissan 200SX and we did drive there with a 75hp WW Caravan diesel, it got up to 150+ km/h and still accelerating with the RPM going into the red, that car was insane, it just got more and more power the farter into the red you went with the RPM... We did not dare to drive faster then 150+ Km/h as the engine would for sure self disintegrate at some point.
nissan was and are great quality cars....i still drive my bluebird sylphy..its a 2liter sedan with spacious interior and superb comfort ride...service the cvt in time...and the car last u forever,,..15 years and still drives great.
I had a 1991 Hatchback dark blue 1.4 manual...at that time Nissan's were very reliable and robust.. I bought it with 44k miles and sold with 117k with nothing spent but services and usual things like tyres brakes Super cars that gave back really good mpg...
These were great cars in their time... Sadly Nissan used a 3 speed auto box for this car which resulted in the engine having to rev high at motorway speeds :( My old 1985 Austin Maestro Vanden Plas 1.6 auto was pretty similar with the 3 speed VW auto box from the mk2 Golf of that era...

The engine was warmed up before I turned it off for about 3-4 minutes, then I started recording. The engine temperature gauge takes some time to reach the correct position, you should check after 30 seconds to 1 minute after start the temperature. That’s why it takes a bit longer to show the right position. However, the temperature never reaches the midpoint of 90°C. it always stays around 70-80°C, even at top speed and full throttle.
@@265justy Τhe equivalent 80ies generations of the above mentioned cars were perhaps as good, but no better than this Sunny model. The 80ies Nissans were truly INDESTRUCTIBLE.
They were all much of a muchness. For most people it came down to personal taste . In South Africa , the Honda Ballade was premium to all these . Then Corolla, Sentra and 323. But you could spend days arguing amongst yourselves as to which is best.

Thus we had many examples of (well maintained) Sunnies with 600.000km that looked & worked as if they had 150.000km on the clock. This is absolutely phenomenal. Of course back then all Japanese makes used to make (and still do) durable cars.
190 kph on 3 speed automatic transmission is impressive but do take good care of its engine the car has good power to weight ratio but you are actually maximizing the power band in order to achieve the top speed

Yeah that was GM family II rubbish underpowered engines with timing belt break between 40 and 80k or less causing complete destruction. This is Sunny with real Nippon engine.
I had one in this same spec...driving at 120kph for long periods was headache inducing and it drank fuel like some kind of alcoholic...plus I'm quite tall so I kept hitting my head on the roof when I stopped at traffic lights.
I love feeling of air, visibility in this car.
Cars of those times offer amazing vision at any direction.

These were so useful and economically correct cars. My father had the 1.4slx sedan version. Fast enough, very roomy and comfortable for lonh drives.
