Raw vegetables and fruits with high water content keep you very full and are the lowest in calories. Nuts are a bad choice=high calorie and not filling.
Whole grain bread, rice, pasta. This is something I've only recently found out. White bread in a sandwich and I'll be eating again really soon, whole grain bread, lasts a lot longer.
Instead of salad dressing, you can add fresh lime or lemon juice and a bit of salt to your salad. It tastes fantastic and saves you the calories.

Put a paper towel in your salad ziplock, it draws moisture out and lasts much longer.🙃😁

Using MyFitness Pall as a guide for how many calories I’m eating has really been an eye opener when I’m cooking at home! Measuring oil and butter and meat has really shown me how excessive I’ve been when I can get away with cooking the same delicious meals with a fraction of oil or butter I was using before. This video is exactly how I go about my day now. I know how much I’m eating now and with this knowledge and these same tools you shared, I’ve lost 25lbs :) Thank you for making such an informative video for others. I’ve been trying to tell my coworkers my tricks but this video perfectly sums them up!
Oh My - I used to calorie count this exact way, with the old Calorie King Book, and the site and wrote down in an exercise book my calories and I did it for a few years and ended up losing half my body weight (I lost 63 kgs). I used the book and pen and paper (so old school) to track my calories for weight loss. I love your videos. Thank you so much and sending love to you from the rural forests of Tasmania x

Just take them out completely. You can get oleic acid- which is a fatty acid in avocado- from olive oil too. Or better still, switch from olive to avocado oil for the salad dressing.
Someone who wants to eat a healthy amount of calories
Hey Laura, I really admire you as an actress. Some of the things you mention in this video are problematic and encourages an unhealthy relationship with food. For example: 1800 calories for a 150 lbs active woman... or the idea that food is to be restricted etc...
Food should not be eaten in excess with reckless abandon..that's why so many people are obese. Not everyone is comfortable gorging themselves. She gave 1800 as a general average if you type in how many calories you should eat in a calorie calculator. 1800 calories is not "restricting" food, it's having self discipline.
Amazing!!!!! Noting how high calorie certain foods are is important. This is why some people struggle to lose because they think because if you eat healthy you’ll lose weight. Not if you’re eating excessive amounts of high calorie healthy foods.
I was surprised when she said 1800 calories for her to maintain her weight until I realized she's 5'10" lol
This is great! I rarely think about calories unless I’m trying to lose weight but I should think more about it to maintain the weight that I have. Instead on eating too much then having to lose weight.

That video is sooooo wrong you shouldnt starve yourself you shouldnt feel guilty about calories these are all healthy food plus if you are a little active you burn calories and you should work out but as long as you eat mostly healthy you should never restrict yourself
Please dont count ur calories on food like avocado or greens, there is virtually no fat in them and are not stored like other fats

Another useful tip I think is worth saying from my own experience is to prioritise low calorie, nutrient dense foods. So yeah like avocado- nutrient dense but also calorie dense. So just be smart about which foods you want to have more of because ultimately volume is what will give you satiety. A lot of people get turned off or give up mid way counting calories esp those who want to lose weight because the sheer volume of of food they can eat is substantially limited and therefore will not fill them up. Either take out the avocado completely or replace the olive oil in the dressing with avocado oil and you’ll get the same fatty acid profile; in fact more so because it’s just pure oil. And yes like you mentioned: up the veggie intake! Especially leafy greens and those in the cruciferous family. Almost nothing calorie-wise but so nutrient dense and full of fibre. And just to highlight again here if you’re cutting/trying to lose fat: regular potatoes are actually lower in calories than sweet potatoes for the same amount. Yes, sweet potatoes are more nutrient dense but they are also more calorie dense. Much love, Laura and to all those who follow you xx

Loved this video! Thank you so much for sharing. I've actually lost 110 pounds being more mindful of my calories (and cutting carbs). It's something I practice every day and I'm so much more aware of the types of foods I eat.
Love these videos you make! I've lost 48lbs in the last 5 months all from doing this. Bought a food scale, used my measuring cups/spoons. Im doing Weight Watchers, but its seriously the same doing..calorie counting and portion control. Cant wait to see more videos from you! 😊

Instead of measuring out things, try intermittent fasting
Laura, please look into a whole foods plant based diet. You can eat quite a bit more without all the calories. You feel satisfied and it's the healthiest diet! I've been doing it for about 3 years and its so satisfying. You don't really have to worry about calorie counting. Plants have protein, it's better for your health, the environment and the animals. Bonus, your risk of getting heart disease, cancer and diabetes dramatically drops on a whole food plant based diet. I promise its not a bunch of mumbo jumbo, it's backed by science. Check out Dr. Esselstyn, watch Forks Over Knives, Plant Pure Nation, read How Not to Die and The China Study. My seven year old has been very happy with what we eat, and we feel very good knowing he will grow up knowing what healthy food is and how to prepare it! Much love, been a fan of yours since the 70's show. Just watched the final season of Orange, it was amazing!
Hey! Love your channel, but I didn't agree with the practices showed in this video... I'm studying to become a nutritionist and counting calories goes against what I believe as being healthy. Getting to know your portions and ingredients that go into what you eat is key to me. When you're able to look at your plate and know that it contains the quantities you need of vegetables, carbs and protein, you'll be able to maintain you're calorie intake with no effort. And knowing what goes into each food makes for better choices. A good rule to follow is: if it has many ingredients that you wouldn't have at home, avoid it.
Get balsamic vinegar dressing it will change your salad life lol

Ela tá ensinando as pessoas a contar calorias do q vc come em um dia. Fazer isso umas 2x por ano pra ter uma ideia de quantas calorias a gente tá consumindo no dia a dia e ajustar de acordo com as nossas metas. Pra quem quer manter peso ela recomenda comer 1800 calorias. E daí medir as calorias das comidas q gente mais come só pra ter uma ideia, sabe. Se informar do q a gente coloca na boca. Ela disse q sempre come em casa pq ela sabe o q ela tá comendo.

You explained this so well! It’s so easy to underestimate how many nuts you’re eating! I like your approach aswell, counting calories everyday is so exhausting and stressful but checking how many calories you eat a few times a year is a really good compromise! Also, yes avocados are such a calorie bomb, I noticed though that 1/4 avocado is more than enough to satisfy me, which actually saves me a lot of money since I dint have to buy as many as I used to.
A trick I like to do with salad dressing is have it to the side. I dip my fork into the dressing then into the salad. Every bite has the taste of the dressing but I consume very little of the dressing, maybe a teaspoon worth.

I used to count calories but since I started to, I gained weight. But after watching this quite healthy video I decided to try again😂
I ran into a similar issue! I cut back portion sizes, got super small and then gained ALOT of it back… 😅 I felt like I was starving. But maybe I’ll try again.

This video really helped me understand how quickly calories add up. As Americans, our idea of portion size is so skewed. We eat twice the amount that is recommended. And restaurants are the biggest offenders. If I go out now, I save half of my meal to take home to have the next day for lunch. Thanks for the video. Great job!
It would be better to eat 2 big meals a day with no snacking than 6 tiny meals that make you go hungry.

Hi Laura :) I just wanna share a simple way of counting calories, I just memorize 100kcal portions of every type of food. For example, 100kcal of rice, 100kcal of milk, 100kcal of egg, 100kcal of olive oil... that way is really easy to compare which foods are more heavy on calories than others. I just look at my plate and I can assume, by the portions size plus the olive oil used, how many calories I have in front of me. Kisses :)
