Nice one. It looks soooo much better. I have a 1996 FJZ80 Series Landcruiser GXL and I have those same wheels, which in Australia from 1994/1995 onwards came standard on the Sahara & VX models (also on some limited edition versions) and optional on the GXL. I also noticed yours has drum brakes at the rear, I didn't realise in some markets they had drums. In Australia, all 80 Series sold here came with disc all round. I'm running BFG K02s which are 33" tyres, and have no issues with them.
Going to 33s on any truck is probably the most cost effective mod you can do on any truck. Cost is minimal. Gas mileage drop is minimal. Work is minimal. Performance goes way up. Appearance is way better. Hell, even your ride quality will improve.
I ran Mastercraft 33’s on my stock 80. When I installed my Old Man Emu it looked like a buffed dude with skinny legs but I was to cheap to buy new tires. So when the time came I went with 35’s and GAME ON!!
33" are what the FZJ80 should have come with from the factory. I find the vehicle drives much better with 33's than the std size 31's, the auto responds better in my experience, ride quality feels better and with regards to economy I have found it to be better with 33's looks wise they suit the car so much better too
35s fit no problem on stock height. The only real way to tell if they’ll fit is to actually put the tire on not by rolling it beside the car. I have a 93 stock height on 35s.
Yep common problem. I broke off three studs and mine was only three years old. Had issues with power widows coming off the track in the winter if any ice had formed on them. Probably happened three times at least.
😅 “Wether or not we like the affected mpg”. Haha I think you mean how much worse mpg we’re willing to tolerate given how awesome it’ll look! Your truck is looking really awesome with those 33’s. Maybe the 8 mpg IS worth tolerating and like you said “it’s just gas”. Keep on trucking dude!👍
I have 33 bfg at on My stock 95 fzj80....no rubbing at all but close to front bumper corner on a sharp turn 👍 love em ,just not the price. ( Haven't had them off-road)
Hey bro i notice you had some pieces off from the bumper. If you had them on will they not rub. I need to replace my tires and i am thinking of getting the 33s. Thanks!
What up , Thanks for sharing this video . I have a question I am asking everyone that has done it. How are the 33's on the 40th anniversary land cruiser wheels? R16 8jj? How do the ride on the road on a long distance ? I am sure they are amazing off road. Have you done much sand driving on low tyre pressures ? I hope your feed back can help me decide what to put on my 40th anniversary land cruiser wheels. Thanks
Awesome video brother. Question, you mentioned it's stock LX450 rims and 305/70/16 tires? Do I need to upgrade my rims to upgrade my tire size? I have stock lx450 rims with 275/70r16. Trying to figure out the best way to upgrade to 33s and put a 2.5" lift. Also, do you suggest 33s with the lift or 35s? Thanks.
Im running a dobinsons 2-2.5 with 33s on stock wheels. I could squeeze 35s but im almost positive it’ll rub with the backspacing on the stock wheels. I cant remember the exact offset for the best fit on 35s but its on several of the threads on ih8mud. Most of the guys recommend regearing your axels for 35s as well, as they add so much weight from the stock 31s.
Id be curious how some 35" pizza cutters(35x10(or 10.5)x15 would fit on that without lift. which is potentially doable since you have the FJ80 which will clear 15s
Your fuel economy won't be as good driving around town but it should improve on the highway due to the larger tyres giving you a higher gearing. However, any improvement will be cancelled due to them being mud tyres. I have a 70 series that had 29" tyres, I put "33 on and it transformed the vehicle. Jut KO2s though.
That's not how that works, fuel consumption isn't solely based on engine rpm. It's based on load at that rpm. If the engine is doing 3000rpm with 60% load it will use less fuel than at 2700rpm at 65% load. Also, the official test done on fuel consumption found that mud tires and all terrains of the same size had no difference in fuel consumption (at least not measurable). The handling is compromised by almost 8% in steering and roll over avoidance, however, if done so the vehicle can go to more adventurous places it's great! If done purely for looks, it's dumb. Hate seeing a 4wd with not a spec of dirt in the chassis!
@@AiDOS__ Good information. My reason for going from 29" to 33" was more to do with noise. I have a 70 series Prado with a little 2.4 Turbo. It is great, but above 55mph it got a bit noisy, now with 33" the noise doesn't kick in until 62mph (100kph) so it is more relaxing to drive. Oh yes, mine gets dirty.
The thing is, i love my land cruiser the way it is, it has 31 inch tires, same as your stock ones, but it is a short vehicle, and has good stock clearance. However i would like to buy a set of mud terrain 33's. My concern is that as it is a short vehicle, it gets unbalanced due to the tires getting bigger, and the axle width remaining the same. Installing some wheel spacers seems the simplest of solutions but i don't know if it affects negattively the durability of the suspension

Totally agree
Do 35 even fit either?

Glad i ran into your video bro! My LC FZJ80 is needing new set of tires. This video is helpful! Thanks! 🤙🏼

I agree! Had it on ome and it looks small on it. Btw what size 35 tires did you go with on a stock wheels? Thanks!
Once it was time to replace my 33's i went with the Discoverer STT Pro. Its beena great tire! @@motogp2375
Thanks for posting all you do. I’ve done most of these repairs but there’s not any video content on the early fj80’s.
It's just gas !!! My new favorite quote for the week!
The acorn nut tightens at 107lb ft., it's only common if you don't use a torque wrench.
That's where I messed up
videos like this is making it harder for me to find a LC, making price go up
I had my cruiser 80 on 38”with 6’ lift and a little fender trimming with plastic fender extension, many install 44” with little difficulty.
33" are what the FZJ80 should have come with from the factory.

Did you have to trim the stock bumper?

8mpg?! I get 12.5mpg on 33s, 1991 FJ80. Twisty mountain roads, rarely over 60 mph.
I got 24,8mpg cruising in my LC80 VX diesel on 38”tires,gas engine in the same car are gas guslers .

sir i have the 1997 lexus lx450 i want to change the tires in 35 12.5 17” what do you recommend
We put these on 35’s on Stock suspension here in iceland

What is the actual tire size please ?
305 70 R16
Don't worry about it and if u r. Don't worry about it 😂👌
Those 33x12.50 ?

Not to forget the added unsprung weight. The added rotational mass hurts that mpg, and stopping distance as well while we’re on the topic.

I fit 35s on mine with no lift just a little bit of trimming
what size rims do you have? I have a 91 with 15's, I think this might work for me? Thanks
"Wimpy ... and goofy" and again "looks wimpy".
Now I understand.. yes. These guys going for bigger and taller are mostly just going for looks.
How much ground clearance did you have from the front and rear diff after the 33's?
It was an extra inch from the ground
37s fit without a lift
How did it effect the braking and bumps on the road?
Please where did you get the brush guard from ?
Remember 91-92 sit an inch taller than the later 80 series..
Could you fit the 33's with the bumper end caps on?
Hi ,thanks for your video, it's great but I'm planning to buy the 33" tires the correct size it's 33"/16??
Or it's another number between...
Does anyone know if the stock rims can hold 35 inch ????
Yeah they do
And you can fit 42’s on that cruiser without axle problems
You think 35’s would fit fine with like a 2.5 inch lift?🤔
Oh yeah no problem
You might get some rubbing when going over obstacles if are doing some off-roading.
Lower your bump stops and you will be fine
So you've had zero issues with the 285 75 16
Does the 33" spare wheel fit underneath?
Hi, what is the total size of the 33s you put on. I don't want to change my rims, as they are stock.
I had mine on 285/75/16 and it looked great and ran with no problems.
Hi! How much is coast in the USA 1fzfe engine rebuilt kit? Im form Bishkek, sorry for my English)
No need to apologize, engine rebuild kit..... like a full rebuild kit might cost between $600-$900 USD depending on the kit.
Do you still have the original wheels?
What is the size of 33”s ? 285/75/16?
ppl have alot of time to watch an 8min vid when they could just google, lol.
Do you still own your 80s Land Cruiser
What is your opinion on wheel spacers?

Most people recommend not using wheel spacers on off-road vehicles its too risky
What are the actual size of that 35?
I would have gon with 235/85 16
Are you selling those oem rims?
I have the same rims and will be listing them for sale next week. In central Texas.
Your front bumper doesn’t look stock?
Some of them came with 'Brush Guards' they're honestly not the best I took mine off
At 35's you will want to re gear your axles.
agreed!
You are driving on a FLAT street!!! The FJ80 can be easily be "Over Tired".....not near enough power out of the 3FE engine for the larger tire sizes.
Dude get rid of the bumper
what name rim off 33s tyre
its the stock rim that came on the lx450
@@LNDCRUZIN tq sir.
You need to re-gear. You just changed the perfect 4.11 ratio!
