      Please watch the Animatrix! The Final Flight of the Osiris leads into the beginning of Reloaded and I wish I'd seen it in the proper order.
      Also these 3 movies were from the beginning 1 story (an allegory about being Transgender which is something I didn't know until last year but gives a deeper perspective about the whole story) and thinking of the 1st movie as chapter 1 might give a better perspective on The Matrix trilogy as a whole.

    Seraph is an Agent from the first Matrix: The Paradise Matrix. Seraphs are one of the choirs of angels in Christian Mythology, and that's why he appears to have golden code when Neo looks at him. When the Paradise Matrix was shut down due to human rejection of it's perfection, Seraph chose to enter the service of the Merovingian in exchange for continued existence rather than being repurposed at the Source. He disliked the things he was forced to do, however, and left the Merovingian to serve as the Oracle's protector.
    The Twins (aka the Ghosts) are Agents from the Nightmare Matrix, the second one, where all of the monsters and terrors of humanity's past were made real. This Matrix didn't work either, and they also sought refuge with the Merovingian. This is why they can phase in and out of reality, that's part of their programming from the Nightmare Matrix.
    The Merovingian himself (named after the dynastic line of Frankish kings during the Dark Ages, including Clovis, the 1st King of the Franks, and Charles Martel, the grandfather of Charlemagne) is rumoured to be an Operating System who chose to go into business for himself within the parameters of the Matrix, and is thought to be one of the oldest programs known of. As he has created a vast organization that he controls, along with laying the groundwork for other programs to do their thing, his status as an OS is likely.
    This film is also where the concept of introducing code within food in the Matrix is introduced, when the Merovingian sends that girl the slice of cake. Remember when the Oracle gave Neo the cookie in the first film? That was activation code, like a patch, installed when he 'rebooted' after being shot by Smith.
    As for the Architect, he purposefully speaks using 'big' words to try to confuse Neo and see if he's following along, and it was done intentionally by the filmmakers to confuse the audience as well. Essentially: humans will only accept the Matrix as reality if they are given the opportunity to question its reality on a subconscious level. Those who do eventually find a way to exit it, and pull others like them out, thus maintaining the stability of the Matrix to a point. When the unplugged population grows to a certain size, the Matrix becomes unstable as more and more begin to question, unless "The One" returns to the Source. He is the result of the recursive coding errors that are built up over the years by this method, and by recompiling his data and rebooting the Matrix, they can restabilize it and keep the human population within from self-destructing.
    This time things did NOT go as planned, and Neo chose to save Trinity over the whole human race, because he believed that he could fight the Machines and win. Since he did what no other One has done and exited the Source with the anomalous code, he becomes wirelessly connected to the Matrix (hence why he can zap the Sentinels at the end with his brain outside the Matrix, and why he collapsed, it was too much for his meatbrain to handle).
    Also, keep in mind that this is where Smith is shown to be the Anti-Neo: his speech about purpose, his desire to enforce conformity by turning everyone into him, directly contrasts with Neo's role as that of the Liberator, The One with free will who can choose. This is why Smith continues to chase him: Neo is the embodiment of everything he is not, and he feels compelled to force him to conform, to submit to his design.

      I thought the golden code was to represent Buddhist enlightenment.

    • @Lia-uf1ir
      @Lia-uf1ir 2 года назад +2

      I think Smith's desire to enforce conformity is a metaphor for fascism. Smith, already a reactionary as an Agent of the system, became a totalitarian fascist after being unplugged. The Wachowskis essentially were ahead of their time there because that is exactly what happened when actual fascists appropriated the Matrix plot for their own goals (this is why "taking the red pill" became a catchphrase among fascists to now mean things like anti-feminism), just like Smith got infected with the anomaly's code but interpreted it in his fascist view of the world.

    I feel like the subtle references in Matrix lore was really cool. For example, Werewolves or ghosts and other monsters were explained as ways to control humans by fear in earlier versions of the Matrix. Eventually the Architect realized what was missing is choice. But I think it's cool how some of those older creature programs were still running around. Since The Merovingian kept so many of these programs around him.. I feel like he might have been where the idea of Count Dracula came from.

He was a very bright character that got little screen time or development. I would definitely watch a spinoff movie in a spinoff movie about something in one of the other matrixes. Perhaps another Matrix exists in parallel to the main one, e.g. in Europe, and it is still running old code with ghosts and such? And people from Io show up to liberate it or something?

    It is a theory. The architect does talk about 6 versions of matrix before he "perfected" this one. So basically giving chance to humans make them feel like they are in power. The mere decision lets them feel free and hence they wouldn't understand the truth. So, if this is the matrix (the one where they think they can fight) the humans will think they've won after a long fight. But eventually will always be under the code. Which even explains why he kept programs to help humans like NPC in games. He made myths to make people feel things like fear and believe in something beyond what is human, like gods and themselves.

Also he had a part in the 9th of the Star Trek films. The second is in regards to 18:21. The part that everyone misses when talking about the energy efficiency of using humans as a power source is that it's "combined with a form of fusion" as Morpheus said, such as cold fusion. Although cold fusion is only theoretical, it's believed to be entirely possible, and if it is possible, a super advanced A.I. could probably solve it. That's how they achieve a net energy gain.

    Holden's theory about the real world being a second level of the Matrix is actually a big theory that the fans have.
    The architect sais that 99% of all of the people plugged in are happy to stay plugged in and never look for the Matrix. That 1% is an anomaly that can't be coded out. These 1% of the people will always look beyond the Matrix and want to free themselves. The theory is that the Machines created a second Matrix within the Matrix to fool the people that free themselves into thinking they're free, when in reality they're still plugged in.
    And as Holden said, this is why Neo can use his powers in the "real world".. Because he's actually still in a version of the Matrix.

    • @bemasaberwyn55
      @bemasaberwyn55 2 года назад

      The major flaw with this theory is actually because it ignores a key piece of dialogue from the Architect. "You have many questions. And although the process (going to see him) has altered your consciousness, you remain irrevocably human. Ergo some of my answers you will understand and some you will not. Concordintly while your first question is the most pertinent, it is also the most irrelevant " Translation : I know this isn't what you expected. And while coming here has evolved you, you're still "only human". As a result some things I say will make sense, others won't.
      This means that Neo was no longer just human. He was "advanced " so his powers existing in the real world isn't surprising. This is something touched upon in the next film(as Neo is the first to buck the system)

    The trouble with not watching the movie on DVD is that you miss all the extras like the Philosopher's commentary and the BTS about how it was made. The is a reason why there were so many sexual overtones in Zion because it represented the Body and the Matrix represents the Mind while the Machines represent Spirit, that is why the scenes in Zion have a red cast to them, the Matrix is lit with Green and the Machine are made up of gold light like when Neo saw Seraph as before their fight on the tables. The commentary goes into a lot more and ties it all together for the trilogy as a whole

    This is my favorite of the trilogy. I would recommend The Animatrix, it does fill in some of the backstory of the films and it does show how the war between man and machine started.

    I don't know if it has been mentioned, but the irony of Jada Smith being in this one is that Will Smith was offered the role as Neo before Keanu, he turned it down for Wild Wild West (LOL) and Val Kilmer was on the role for Morpheus but was taken back as Will rejected the role of Neo, which I would have to admit was a real lucky strike as Keanu and Laurence Fishburne are the perfect people for these roles, the other 2, not so much.

    I moved to Western Washington as a kid and I've lived here for 35 years. I can say that the lack of sun definitely affects me. 10+ months a year of depressingly oppressive overcast and near constant non-committal mist-rain. I don't think I fully realized how it affected me until a few years ago when I had to do something in Eastern Washington. As we drove over the mountains and the sun came out I actually started bouncing in my seat. I hadn't seen the sun in months and suddenly I was giddy, had a ton of energy, and annoyingly happy.

    A few fan fiction theories: the mother of the Matrix was Persephone, not the Oracle, and was practically confirmed when Neo was speaking with the Architect after he brushed off the Oracle guess.
    Seraph, the Merovingian, and the councilor in Zion that talked to Neo are all thought to have been prior versions of The One.

    Love watching this channel and seeing Jens reactions to these classics. The Matrix is a great movie to make you think about what is real and actual reality. Being from the UK….. Fun Fact I always remember seeing this movie in the cinema and the Twins appear on screen…. A great addition to the story but I will always see them as Neil and Adrian from a home make over show called Better Homes. Two twin builders working together. 😂 A home make over show that was on tv in the early 2000’s. Thanks Wachowskis…. 🙈🙈 I love this movie but can’t see past this 😂😂

    I once spent an entire afternoon (when I first got a CD of this movie 15 years ago) counting on still frames how many Smiths was Neo fighting by the end... and there were over 216 of them. And each of them stronger than any Agent, upgraded or not. That's a lot, even for the One...

    My two big issue with this part were the bowling strike sound in the Neo vs multiple Smiths at the playground fight, and the Neo got wifi to stop the sentinels at the end.
    Yes, it would be much better if they continue the story as they find out they are in a second level of a simulation because theyve got by the machines or something.

  • @marvelencyclopedia
    @marvelencyclopedia 2 года назад

    The way I read the ending with the machines, Neo has cybernetic implants from when he was in his pod. This, along with the One glitch that he has imbedded in him, allows him to manipulate and control the machines in the real world by connecting to them via WiFi/electrical signals. This also explains how he "sees" near the end of the third movie. We never see Neo fly or fight in the real world. I believe he is essentially hacking into the machines, as the rest of his powers are only able to be used while in the Matrix, where he has full control of the program itself. This is why I believe there is only 1 Matrix, and we actually are in the real world in Zion and the ship.

    Whoever once told me this, thank you. At the end of this movie, Neo got an upgrade from 'the source' to be wifi enabled. That's it. That's how he can do stuff to the sentinels now. MAKES SO MUCH SENSE. When this came out, wifi wasn't a common thing yet so I never made that association. I think Resurrections makes Reloaded/Revolutions better.

    So originally the wachowskis had it so the machines were using the humans to create a neural net. Effectively utilizing brain power for computing. The studio said that was too hard for people to understand so they changed it to batteries.

    So the original script or story didn’t have the people as “batteries.” Their minds were being used to create the matrix, like a collective GPU or something. It makes wayyyy more sense than using us as batteries. I think the studio didn’t think that people back then would understand that concept though.

  • @KillahMate
    @KillahMate 2 года назад +1

    The 'batteries' thing was a change added in a script rewrite at the insistence of the studio, who believed that audiences would be too confused by the _original_ concept: the Matrix was supposed to be... a neural network. The machines would be using human brains as neural network processors that the machine civilization ran on. This immediately explains where the powers of The One come from, because if the Matrix runs _on your brain processor_ then if you are capable of _believing_ 'reality' is different then you _change_ 'reality'. Agents are programs running within the Matrix, and therefore "they can never be as fast or as strong as you can be", because they're just programs and Neo is _the CPU._
    I always hated that this got changed because a few Hollywood execs were scared, the original concept not only makes sense scientifically but it _makes the movie make more sense._
