  • After a Senetti is finished flowering it can be encourage to produce another flush of flowers by cutting it back hard to one third of its original size. In this video I show how hard to cut it back and the timelapse footage shows how quickly it will recover from a hard prune. Within a month or two of cutting back your Senetti should be in full bloom again. Keep your Senetti in a bright position and feed well for best results.

    This is great, I thought my senetti was dead after some beautiful initial flowering. I know very little about gardening but seeing your video gives me hope I can bring it back to flower!

      Good luck with your senetti, after cutting back it should flower again in a month or two.

      They can survive for several years with repeat flowering three of four times a year, however hard frosts will kill them and I've never got more than three years out of a plant because leaf miner damages them in my area.

    Your video gives me hope. I've just bought three Senetti plants for 36 euro, thinking it was a perennial. I wouldn't pay that much if I knew it was an annual. However, I'm in hardiness zone 8-9, so I"ll give your method a go. Thank you for sharing.

      As long as you cut them back after flowering and you can protect them from hard frosts they should last a few years.

    My senetti plants were in full bloom - gorgeous, until a hail storm hit. It smashed all the flowers and buds off and some of the leaves. Will try cutting them back as you suggest. As it's only April I'm hoping they will recover. Thanks.

    Thanks for this video. I just bought a big senetti from the supermarket reduced to a £1 from £12! Didn’t have a clue what to do with it as it’s all drooping but will give it a good water and cut it all back hopefully get some more beautiful purple flowers 👍🏻

    Canada is a hot country over summer reaching well into 30 dog heat with high humidity. I was born there and live there on and off . Sennetti care in Canada is not same as Scotland

    Hi is it possible to take cuttings from this plant ?

  • @christelnellemann2966

    Great video, thanks, saw this after my very first, and now I will run today tonget a few more colors, so wonderfull. Slightly bothering me, is , my plant has instructions, that it is good for full to half shadow placement, but maybe Denmark is a bit warmer than your climate. Supposedly, this plant should be easy to propagate (right word?) by putting cut off branch in water to sprout roots. Do you have experience with that?

    • @Gardeningat58N
      @Gardeningat58N  3 года назад +1

      I would give it full sun in the cooler months, but in summer I would give it some shade from the midday sun as it doesn't like high temperatures. I would expect it to easily propagate from cuttings, but most varieties are protected by Plant breeders rights so there are legal restrictions to what you can do with the cuttings.

    Great video!! Do you think I can regrow mine after I did cut almost all the flowers?

    • @Gardeningat58N
      @Gardeningat58N  2 года назад

      Yes, as long as there are some stems left it should be able to regrow and flower again.

    I'm afraid mine's dead but after I saw how much you trimmed off of yours, I'm hopeful it might come back. Mine got too much heat and it looks so, so sad right now!

    • @Gardeningat58N
      @Gardeningat58N  3 года назад +1

      Cut it back and keep it somewhere cool for the summer, it should recover and flower when the cooler weather arrives in autumn. if you live in a very hot country an airconditioned house might be the only option as they really don't like long hot summers. Keep away from hot sunshine until autumn.

    • @darah.herron
      @darah.herron 3 года назад

      Thanks! I have brought it in and it doesn't look like it's gotten any worse, so maybe it will do exactly like you say... I'm hopeful! It was so beautiful I would hate to have killed it!

    How long does it take it to grow back? What kind of food do I need to U.S.A. Decaturville, Tennessee

    • @Gardeningat58N
      @Gardeningat58N  3 года назад +1

      It takes about a month or two, feed it with a general/balanced liquid plant feed. Then switch to a tomato feed when the flower buds appear. They really don't like hot weather so it will struggle over your summer time, keep it away from strong sunshine if the weather is warm.

    How long does it usually take for the plant to bloom once again ?

    • @Gardeningat58N
      @Gardeningat58N  2 года назад

      It usually takes about two months, my plants normally flower from April until the end of June, and then flower again around September.

  • @jamesallen6767
