Dr Steven Gough-Kelly presented his talk on galaxy research, which included some of his doctoral thesis. Steven explained the historical thinking about galaxies and the work done by HST and JWST, which is changing the way scientists consider the famous 'Hubble Tuning Fork' diagram to be in the wrong order, i.e., starting as spirals and ending up as ellipticals. Steven concluded by anticipating work that will be carried out by the new telescopes about to come into service.
Speaker: Steven Gough-Kelly is an Astrophysics Researcher studying galaxies, including our home, the Milky Way. In addition to his research, he has given public lectures, taught physics, and developed workshops for all ages, aiming to pass on knowledge through the curiosity of space.
