I was looking at your collection of old videos and I came across this one. I LOVE model train shows even though I've never been to one. Loved looking all those beautiful scale model trains. I hope to go to a model train show one day. 😊
Thanks again as always!!! Did you see our videos on this mine? The one shows how big it’s gotten. And now, two years later, it’s the same depth and width as the Grand Canyon. And a hundred twenty years ago it was a mountain!!! ruclips.net/video/WnmB2FmtSGk/видео.html
I lived in Utah in the early '60s and at the time Kennecott sponsored a weekly TV show of some kind. Their commercials always took you through some portion of the mining operation and were often the highlight of the evening (unlike commercials these days).
Hi. That was the Kenncott Neighborhood Theater. John Barlow did the voice over for the breaks. And big dynamic music. John jr was my best friend in the 4th grade. We would watch the show with his dad sometimes. Sunday night. An old but great movie with a 5 minute break 4 times per hour. Then there was Johns sister Treasure.... but that’s another story.
I have to take a moment to say just how well together your videos are. They are second to none in quality and are so informative. The Bingham Copper Mine is a slice of Americana that has made this country what is today. The fact that this is going full throttle in a time most copper mines are played out or not economically viable is amazing in it's own right. Though you can't visit the mine courtesy of Google Maps or Google Earth. I hate plugging them but, they have done such an awesome job as presenting quality, relatively accurate geographic data. Thse books Tim gave you are price less.Thank you for another awesome video documentary.
Coffee!! I'm an instant human, just add coffee. Sitting here with a cold working on next weeks show, "Awesome Car Collections - The Cars and Times of Larry Miller" . Way too long!! 25 minutes. But I just can't cut awesome.
I've only recently discovered your channel, and I'm loving it. My favorites are the ones on 'Eureka', but this one was special to me. When you said "Local Lego Group" my ears perked up. I looked around the scene and sure enough there was my "old" friend Iso Vernon and his three kids. He's young compared to me, but I've known him literally since he was a baby. It was odd but in a good way to see someone I know well in one of your videos.
That’s a great LEGO group. They have an annual show I think? But always at the train shows. My sister in law collects lego. Wow! She buys two. Puts one aside and builds the other.
Much of the same footage I used before, but much more!! Always was planing to go out there and shoot more. But then it was gone.... So we wanted to use what we had.
OK. OK! Uncle! This was a great video and I have finally gotten use to a couple of really cool wacky folks who go out on the loose with an excuse. Thanks for covering the train show. I've never been to any really big ones in my 51 years of modelling. My first will be next month on February 25th in San Jose, CA - about an hour an a half away from the Pacific Crest (my 5th HO layout under construction down stairs off the garage and shop). Ya'll must be of my generation because I loved Rat Fink. If you are ever in the Monterey/Salinas, CA area, maybe we can take him to dinner at our Olive Garden... now I'm hungry. It's only 0745 hours! Thanks a lot! I'm on a diet....
Sarge, how long have Smith and Jones been out on patrol? ... Um, since 18:30..... GEEE thats over a hundred years!!! I hope they get back soon, I want to go to Olive Garden.... Planning to be on the central coast for Memorial Day. Planning to at least.
Cool. Unfortunately, I'll be up in Felton (Santa Cruz County) at Roaring Camp Railroads for a Civil War reenactment that week. I command Company B of the Confederate States Marine Corps. ...Just another expensive hobby that takes time away from model railroading. I really must settle down to retirement someday.
You'd better feed your pet Rat Fink in the back. It reminds me of when we were pesty little kids (8 of us!) in the back seat nagging my parents to stop for ice cream, are we there yet, gotta go to the bathroom! LOL! Really enjoy your channel. If you ever come to Disneyland /Southern California, please let me take you to lunch...at Olive Garden of course!
Any chance of a video of the East Broad Top Railroad? The oldest original narrow gauge railroad east of the Mississippi! It might all be quiet there but the Friends of the East Broad Top are looking after everything.
This was one of my favorite videos of your channel. I am trying to create a small open pit mine scene for my On30 modular layout. The B&W photos helped me begin my creation. Thanks! I do have a question, though. Did you ever make it to Olive Garden?
OK, thank you. I didn't know that they went so fast in the mines. I may have exaggerated the 100mph bit but it still seemed a bit fast to me though for some of the turns.
I like slow runnen. BUt to each their own. At one time I like to run faster. They run better. But then I came up with better mechanisms and motors.. Anyway, what ever someone wants on there layout.
Technically Dale, the Lego Train celebrated its 50 year anniversary last year. The track the ULUG guys are using was produced in the 1990's-2000's. Lego has actually dramatically decreased train production in the last few years. Most of what you see in the show are "M.O.C's" which means "My Own Creations." Only a few of the Lego stuff on display is bought and built following official instructions. The only reason it seems relatively new is that Lego didn't start importing their trains to the U.S. until the mid 1970's, while Europe got them about a decade earlier. Any way onto the other model stuff. We were upset that the hobby show didn't even have an HO layout this year since that is arguably the highlight for us. The DRGW Modeling and Historical Society booth was actually rather fun though, and we also screwed around with the NMRA "crash loop" they had.
My sister in law is trying to make us converts. Love them, but gad, too many toys, sooooo little time!! Small show for sure. Fun but SMALL. Looking forward to Ogden, one of the BEST!!
Yes we are all excited for Ogden. That place is huge. I am hoping that by the time Ogden rolls around my HO scale layout will be well under construction. My Dad and I are doing the benchwork this Saturday. Its a small switching layout, nothing to fancy; but that gives me hope the track work will be done quick and easy, and stuff will be running in a few months.
Yup… omg. Back in the day I worked on that stuff. “In Search Of”. For NBC. Everything was faked. People in big foot suits. Actors as “scientists “. Big money in it. Today “storage wars..”. “Under Cover Boss”. Geeeezzz.
Hi. That’s a big mine but Bingham Canyon has usually been the biggest in the world. A few diamond mines are deeper. And a pit in South America is at times bigger but then Bingham moves back to the top. At this point the pit is roughly the same width and depth as the Grand Canyon in places. Almost a mile deep. Three miles wide. ruclips.net/video/WnmB2FmtSGk/видео.html
Pretty close Hull Rust was 5 miles across and 3 miles across! Most mining companies in Minnesota also used a bunch of separate pits and also were part underground.
I can't wait until the video with the race cars I noticed Rat Fink in the back seat my father-in-law was close friends with him when your video is up I will post it on Bob Shaboom Fryz Facebook page
It depends how you measure it but the mine itself is just about 4000 feet deep. Deeper than the Grand Canyon. More if you measure from the mountain instead of the rim.
@@ToyManTelevision Based on the sources of videos and build plans, it seems that Lego trains have had greater popularity in Europe than here in the US. US Lego fans seem to be coming late to the party. (Strictly my impressions, no actual facts were harmed in the production of this comment!)
As always.....American Flyer and All Lionel trains haul butt down the tracks goin' 150 mph. But that is the charm of those type of "toy" trains. So much more dramatic to see HO trains ( or any train) runnin' slow and easy, draggin' down the line. Eh?
You Tube,WiFi and this here confuser are being about as bad and cranky as Rat Fink at this writing. Enjoyed the new Side Kick. The Lego Story would be better fleshed out. The overall train show was great. About that mine, WOW! As small as I can get, now, is my Bride's O gauge stuff. Only have one complete SP Daylight Engine and full consist left in my HO; of which I had plenty at one time. Is it me or is HO and N just getting way to small to build in and on? As always another well made and presented adventure for Toy Man and crew, Greg and Jeanne.
Not really. I have heard it was "discovered" with the help of an old Spanish mine map. Back in the day there were thousands of these maps for sale, most 100% fraud, but as I understand, the Spanish did mine there and took the gold and silver and took off leaving very rich mines behind, and 100 years later the new comers just picked up where they left off. So they say... We are doing a few shows there on the live steam railroad.
Nice stuff. But...... it looks like somebody hung wet towels over newspaper? Tim is running his trains too fast! Wow! It's an derailment waiting to happen. Hang on! careful! You'll get bush whacked! LOL!!!

Lol Olive Garden! Always love your videos
I wonder what Olive Garden would think if we took him in and shot video..... OK PLAN!
