- This had been an interesting opportunity to see a genuine 1870 express engine in action. Whether it will ever be allowed out onto the tracks again is anyones guess. Please note this is a transfer from a super8 sound film and not video.

Would anyone else love to see her back in steam!!??

Shes got fractures on her driving wheels she wouldnt stand it
Nice to see two first-of-the-Class survivors running here. Butler-Henderson and the Stirling sure are a wonderful sight.
I never expected to see video footage of Stirling Single No. 1 in operation. Thank you for posting this. I never knew that #1 was operational in preservation.
It's Emily From Thomas & Friends In Real Life!
"There's no one quite like Emily..."
Too true, she gives justice to such an amazing Steam Engine
+Barnaby Cooper I like The Engine but I hate Dimly she gives it no justice Trying to replace the most famous pannier tank of the world
Epic Llama slap
Damn... most people refer to engines as feminine, but the Stirling is the only one that truly looks feminine!
Beautiful and truly majestic.
Micawber 01 the Midland spinner is graceful and feminine as well.
SteamGent Emily is the Stirling Single. Speaking of "Single", she's a single lady,
She really knows her stuff
Absolutely the most beautiful steam engine ever and I don't say this lightly.
Emily!!!
This is how the Thomas & Friends Movie in the Marc Forster should look like this
Emily Yay
First time I've ever seen footage of a Stirling single (or indeed any 8ft single) in action. It's so incredibly low revving, it looks good for 150mph!
It wasn’t going 150 mph
Emily
What an experience it was to ride behind such a magnificent machine.
Would be great to see these loco's in steam again
oh for those glorious days
Emily was in Thomas & Friends!
What belle beautiful engine the Singles Sterling engines are workshop masterpiece designer Patrick Sterling. my greetings from United States .
I remember this. It was great to see it running. The line has changed a bit now.
What an insight! Thanks for uploading this! And what a beautiful engine, too!
It’s Emily. Hi Emily!
Wonderful to see her in action.
Yes
2:17❤
What an experience it was to ride behind such a mag
The Stirling is one of my favourite steam locomotives - you need a photo with someone either standing on the footplate or next to the engine to give you an idea of how big those driving wheels are! The footage also shows at 1:00 the mail carriage that picked up sacks 'on the fly'.
I was there with my kids, what a great day!
That's Emily
Yes yes
Hi Emily
nice video. i watched it twice and the second time in 1911 as it sort of goes :P
cool, my Great Grandfather was a signalman for the chester region, probably during the days of the L&Y :)
@ta455driver Thanks. Should be back in service after another overhaul soon I've heard.
Who wants this locomotive to be on Train Simulator 2017
I have Trainz: A New Era, so I'm good.

@paullubliner Yes, I had a cable link from the extension speaker socket of my Elmo ST1200 sound projector to the input of the video camera.. The audio auto gain is a bit of a pain but it cant be helped. There is a resistor in the cable as the 10W projector amplifier was overloading the cam when I first tried this.
@hirofan97 - no the Stirling Single has never been made as a powered 00 scale locomotive. There was a plastic model available for many years though and parts could be bought to enable making a powered one up I guess. I have a diorama made up, using the plastic model
brillant vid
@campainr That is the former LNER B1 chassis (6)1264 ex Barry scrapyard condition.
Is this the same loco that's sitting in the train shed at Kirkby Stephen East at the moment?
Very nice - too bad about the faded colour, but great to see that single driver revolving at speed!
The loss of colour is due to my videoing from the projected screen image..
what a gorgus engine my great great grandfather used to ben an engine driver in the 1870s
What is the loco at 1:55 ?
A bit parky in the winter eh?
Need to keep producing these. Why did they stop?
BR found diesels better so that's how steam ended
i wonder they made a sirling single hornby train
Good video, poor picture quality, not often you see the big single drive steam locos now.
That's Me In Real Life!
Emily The Stirling Engine emily, your one of my favorites, in 2 place to Donald and Douglas and after you Is James. The problem is that your not shown as much in the series but you are useful
