I agree, despite that controversial loss to Ohio State in the BCS title game, they've produced the who's who of great talent for the NFL. Plus, that team won the title back in 2001 and many expects (minus ESPN) have them as one of the all time great teams because of their talent.

They were "heavily favored" because they were the defending national champs and were on something like a 21 game win streak. That was the Reggie Bush, Lydale White, Matt Lienart team. They overlooked Texas for some reason, nobody thought theyd win that game. USC was supposed to be invincible..
But no, Texas wasn't a normal team either. They were 11-1 the previous year (to the Sooners team that USC played in the Natty) and 10-3 the year before that..11-2 and 11-2 the years before that..

I mean who edited this video and who is commentating it? Do you not know simple words?
Enrique Comas gotta disagree. ESPN was right on this one. Youre forgetting about coaching. That's a big part of the team. If u placed Cokers in-game strategy against Saban, Meyers, or Carroll, I'm putting my money on the other guys everytime. Best talent, not best team.

Your argument is that these players would out scheme Saban, Carroll, Jimbo, or Meyers. Answer my initial question please. No they didn't. There were so many blown calls that should have went Ohio States way in the 4th quarter of that game. Should have ended in regulation. Miami got punched in the mouth all night.
The 01 Miami team Frank Gore was a 3rd string RB and Sean Taylor on special teams. Please that championship game would've been even worse if they didn't take their foot off the pedal
The 2001 Hurricanes and the 2008 Gators should be 1 and 2. Can you imagine Tim Tebow’s high powered offense with Aaron Hernandez and Percy Harvin against the greatest defense in NCAA history led by Ed Reed and Sean Taylor? This would be a battle of the greatest defense and offense. I think the Hurricanes win because their offense is better than Florida’s defense but it would be a legendary.
I'm wondering where the 2018 Clemson Tigers would be ranked in this list after a 15-0 season. Obviously the Miami team should be number 1, but is Clemson number 2? Clemson beat the brakes off an Alabama team that many were calling the greatest team of all time going into that meeting. Clemson also won all 11 games that Trevor Lawrence started and finished by 20+ points. This includes a 42-10 win in the ACC championship, 30-3 vs Notre Dame in the CFB playoffs, and 44-16 vs Alabama in the national championship game. I believe Clemson should be number 2 on this list; however, I'm biased being a life long Clemson fan. I don't trust my own judgment to be accurate, so any opinions on this would be appreciated. Thanks in advance👍
this is a lazy list.. they took point deferential throughout the season and 2005 Texas had the largest difference. They played 2 teams within the top ten and one team ranked 24th. they beat the brakes off of all of their opponents except #4 Ohio State (25-22) That Texas team was no where near the 1999-2002 Miami teams.
MEALSONWHEELS I think the argument here is that USC was on their way to a 3rd national title in a row and had probably the greatest offense ever put together and Texas STILL beat them in their home state. Maybe ESPN’s rationale but I’m a horns fan so I’m a little biased
I’m a Florida fan and having 01 Miami anywhere other than one is just ludicrous. And the Alabama’s teams should be higher although they had some weak qbs for the most part
The 2001 Hurricanes are the greatest college football team of all time. Sorry but thy are. That team was loaded with so much talent it was literally unreal. I doubt we'll ever see a team like that again...
I hate to say it as an Orangeblood, but I would put 2001 Miami #1 and 2005 Texas #2. Yes, Texas was dominant and it wasn't just the Vince Young show. Jamaal Charles, Michael Griffin, Aaron Ross and others would also collect NFL paychecks. But the 01 Miami Team were not just 2 deep with NFL picks. We're talking high 1st rounders!! Jeremy Shockey backed up by Kellen Winslow Jr. and Ed Reed backed up by Sean Taylor??? Then you had an RB rotation of Clinton Portis, Willis McGahee, and Frank Gore????? Oh, and you didn't want to crowd the line because Andre Johnson would beat you deep. The 2005 Horns are number #1 in my heart. But objectively speaking, I'm going with 2001 Miami.
How the 14 buckeyes aren’t any higher is insane. They won with a backup all year then won the natty with A THIRD STRING QB! Edit: also now have the highest paid receiver and running back in the league on that team.
The thing about '01 Miami is they had what very few if any teams had. They had playmakers on the offense that could score from anywhere but the defense with that secondary could do the same thing. Just an other universe type team.
04 USC was a better defensive team than 05 they would have beat 05 Texas a team that couldn't handle OU. OU beat Texas 12-0 That 04 OU team was labeled the greatest team of all time until USC destroyed them. Heisman winner Jason White and Adrian Peterson as a monster freshman did nothing.

Not only did that Texas team have I high explosive Offense. That ran through every team they played. The Defense was nasty! Forced turnovers all the time. Just suffocated QB’s. And even the special teams was amazing. Would be a great game. But Texas I think would come out on top.
Lmao
@@jackwynperle5013 the only close game if I remember correctly was Ohio State. A very good Ohio state team. They blew out most of the teams they played. I remember I went to two or three games that year.
@Daniel Espinosa the texas A&M game was close that year too. Also the championship game against USC was a 3 point game with Texas needing a 12 point comeback in the final minutes. Honestly, I bet if they played USC 10 times that year they wouldn’t have won 5 of them.
I agree minus 3-1
1. MIA
2.Texas
3.Tebow
Texas?? Really?? 17 First round draft picks. 38 overall. The third string running back was Frank bleeping Gore! The 01 CANES would’ve mopped up any team on that list
They weren't as dominant as the teams ahead of them. Plus they played in a mediocre Big East.
[]_ _[]tube preach on brother🙌
Not against the 11 and 12 Bama teams. Those teams bullied just about any one that went against them.
Even the 2016 team which had arguably one of the greatest defenses ever fielded in the sport. It's a shame the offense failed them and they became overshadowed.
They didn't mop 7-4 Boston College. Took a wack interception to beat them. they didn't even score an offensive touchdown. Barely beat VT too
[]_ _[]tube u canes fans are overlooking a major part... coaching. That was the 01 Canes Achilles Heel. Saban, Fisher, Carroll, Meyers would coach circles around Coker in a bowl game situation with 30 days to prepare. But still agree, they were the most talented team by far...
Willis mcgahee will always be my favorite collegiate RB!
Interesting list. All great teams. Obviously there is some subjectivity but still a nice rundown of a lot of greatness.
2001 Miami Hurricanes best team assembled
Chris Bateman ...no
@Chris Bateman not at all they were good but not that goid
i liked Vince Young he was so great against usc and auburn thanks Vince.
Do you mean Michigan, because that was the other Rose Bowl opponent he played. (Vince never played Auburn)
01 Canes easily number one, wth
2001 Miami is the best college football team ever
I agree, despite that controversial loss to Ohio State in the BCS title game, they've produced the who's who of great talent for the NFL. Plus, that team won the title back in 2001 and many expects (minus ESPN) have them as one of the all time great teams because of their talent.
Not even close, 95 Nebraska is easily the most dominant team in CFB history.
Frozilla15 they don't shit about football. Granted Miami kicked our ass in 2001 cool as a die hard Cornhuskers Fan I had to accept that. But overall anyone with common sense knows that those Back to Back Championship teams would kill all these teams. Wouldn't be a game if these fools don't believe us ask them to talk to Spurrier.
Devan Taylor even tho they struggled against boston college and va tech? The best nah, most talented roster?...absolutely
Opinion alert
ESPN, in the words of your own Stephen A Smith...STAY OFF THE WEEEEEEEEEEDUH!!! How can you say 2001 Miami Hurricanes are not the best team on this list but best roster of all time?!? #CanesNation say getting hated on. If USC, Norte Dame, Alabama, Oklahoma, etc, had a roster like this they would praise them. SMH! #itsallabouttheu
ralph laurens mascot they lost to osu so
I hate the Canes but there is no doubt that '01 Miami should be number one on this list.
Josh T what are u talking about?
Josh T off a bad call, there was no pi on that play
Ain’t nothing about the U. Lol y’all irrelevant.
I suppose all 1,232 people that commented are Miami fans considering each and every one of these comments is "ESPN hates Miami." "The 01 hurricane would destroy all these teams." "I'm from Miami and I didn't finish school."
ESPN was smoking some good ass loud while making this list 🤦🏽♂️😂
That Auburn Team is Criminally Underated nobody could stop that offense
This is how #1-5 should've went
1. 01 Miami
2. 08 Florida
3. 11 Alabama
4. 14 Ohio State
5. 13 Florida State
Mr Q Ceaz you got 13 FSU ahead of 99 FSU?! Come on man! Auburn should have beat them for real.
Ken Jones bro they were averaging 42 points again plus look at all the pros in the NFL thats on that team even Kelvin Benjamin soft ass had a great play
12BJJohnson no team would've beat them are you serious? USC defensive line was trash Vince Young would've gotten destroyed by those top 5 teams
Texas shouldnt be number 1, but they easily top 5 lol
Mr Q Ceaz left Texas out ? Ahh hell
USC vs Texas 2006 Rose Bowl
Miami vs Ohio State 2003 Fiesta Bowl
Will we ever see a another game like these in our lifetime again??
The narrator says "Texas beat highly favored USC." So Texas was a regular old team until they got the upset? Doesn't sound credible. 2001 Canes all day.
Cam Newton and Vince Young got the best chips coming from a USC fan
Lil Dagga where's kareem
2010 auburn is the best rushing offense ever with cam Newton combined with Michael dyer who broke bos record as a freshman it's a shame he was only there one year
01 Miami should be #1, by a landslide
There's nothing miami will ever do to get the credit they deserve, 2001 canes are the greatest college football team of ALL TIME, I have all the facts to back it up, but when it comes to miami, nobody likes miami because it's MIAMI, it's just how it is, it is and will always be miami vs everyone else, we are the most hated team/fanbase, and I'm fine with that, I enjoy it 😎
I don't hate you guys... Wish we could get some more home and homes scheduled. Had a few during the Tressel Era, needs to happen again. List is a joke lmao, don't take it personal.
Goat is the 95 Huskers.
Most hated? Stfu y'all wish. Another football program living in the past. Y'all basically Nebraska
daylanthegreater bro it's just my opinion....the "stfu" is a little unnecessary, we are just talking about sports, no need to be rude☺
Jo Backson they killed everybody they played
As a UT fan I completely agree with this
99 FSU is top 5 for the simple fact that they went wire to wire at number 1 never losing the top spot all season going undefeated
Finally someone who know the history behind that season
@@IBKING-yk2ih FSU all the way
FSU was happy to play Louisiana Tech, Miami-Fl, UF Gators. Due to Auburn swapped FSU for App State.
At least 4 NFL HOFs on that 01 canes list.....SEAN TAYLOR WAS 3RD TEAM FRESHMAN....ARE U KIDDING ME
01 miami is the best team hands down , he just mention few of the players that went on to be great nfl players
The crazy thing is without Cam Newton, that 2010 Auburn roster would’ve been a 7 or 8 win team. He really elevated their potential singlehandedly.
2001 University of Miami enough said 34 members went to the NFL and 17 in the first round. Plus they won the National championship. Everyone else is following them🏆
"Plus they won the national championship." So did every other team on this list..
1. 01 Miami
2. 08 Florida
3. 09 Bama
4. 99 FSU
5. 14 Ohio St
Texas was unreal on both sides of the ball that year with VY not to mention how unstoppable VY was. Never had there been a dominating individual performance in a Natty before
Tommy Frazier QB Nebraska
My Canes 01 squad was the best team ever assembled and it’s not even close.
This list is perfect
YOU PUT ONE OF THE GREATEST COLLEGE FOOTBALL GAMES IVE EVER SEEN AT #12????!!!!!! You’re CRAZY
If you think Miami wouldnt have handled every last one of those teams you’re crazy Miami had the best team. You need to redo this and put Miami at number one.
As a proud USC Trojan fan..
..that 2001 Miami team is the greatest college team of ANY college sport ever Imo.
Clearly, you dont watch college swimming lol
@@Peter.Young21
I admit, not alot.
I meant in regards to one single season & not a long term dynasty. Is there a college swimming team you feel is better?
2001 Miami should be number one. Come on man! 17 first rounders. Not to mention the other great players
How can a team that won ALL of its games minus NC game by an average of FOURTY TWO points not be the top? I’d argue 1 Miami, 2 FSU as most dominant of the era
Really!!! Miami was without a shadow of a doubt the best team ever assembled on a football field
Aaaaaannnddd this is why we don’t give much to “analytics”. The 01 canes were so stacced that frank gore was 3rd string. Kellen Winslow was baccing up Jeremy Shockey and Sean Taylor wasn’t even Sean Taylor yet.
"Texas beat the HEAVILY favored USC" So how is Texas the best team and they weren't even favored to win? ESPN, this list is a joke cmon get it together. 2001 Canes and its not even close.
Who cares who was favored. Who won?
Huge Florida fan, but having the 08 gators over the 01 canes is a crime - and I hate Miami lmao
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣. I find this so laughable.. The 2001 Miami team is by far considered the greatest team in the BCS/CFP era. Think about how many stars were on that team
12BJJohnson be more clear what you're talking about.. Trojans were on a 34 game win streak which started a week after their loss in a 3OT to California in 2003 and it continued until they lost to Vincent Young and the Longhorns in the national title game in 2006.
You honestly think that Reggie Bush and the crew would stand a chance against the 2001 squad?? 🤣🤣
It’s tied with USC 04 if you check articles written years ago. Before ESPN fired writers
Rion Nabors a year later with most of those players got ran over by Clarrett and Ohio State.
Rion Nabors Lendel would run all over Miami. Remember the depth sounds nice but a lot of those players never played. BC nearly beat them
Drummajortsu Miami got robbed out of the title from a phony pass interference call..ohio state was the luckiest team to ever win the title and if McGahee had not gotten hurt in the 2nd half he would've ran all over the Buckeyes
Hey ESPN, best roster of all time is like saying the best team of all time you jackholes, in the definition of roster, the words "list of players of a TEAM or organization" So by saying that the 01 Miami Hurricanes have the best roster of all time, you are literally saying the opposite by not saying their the best team.
Miami never need coker all they wanted was a substute teacher so they run the plays
Brian Hurricanes fan so ur saying that u believe that a bunch of 18, 19, and 20 year old kids would out scheme and out play call Saban or Carroll??? Okay buddy...
BigCal 3000 THOSE so called kids ran the practice AND games but didn't call most of the plays if you watch the U part 2 Documentary you will understand the circumstance of who was running the team
Brian Hurricanes fan I know what ur talking about. Running sprint drills and practicing the plays in a playbook on a Monday afternoon is completely different than running proper tempo, making correct substitutions, calling proper blitzes, AND MAKING HALFTIME ADJUSTMENTS on a Saturday night under the lights with 90,000 fans going crazy. Your argument is that these players would out scheme Saban, Carroll, Jimbo, or Meyers. Answer my initial question please. Do u actually believe they could outpace and out play call all of these legendary in-game coaches?
1. Miami, '01
2. Texas, '05
3. USC, '04
4. Clemson, '18
I could agree with that. Just saying VY was the best single player in CFB history. I don't see him ever losing a game to anyone
Salvatore Sultana FSU ‘13>>Clemson ‘18
Texas 05 wasn't really better than USC 05 so no way is Texas 05 better than USC 04 which was a much better defensive team out of SC
@@TheoSprinkles He lost 12-0 in the red river shoot out to Texas in 04 when he went 11-1. Reggie bush doesn't turn the ball over the VY story never happens.
Let's look at just stats:
Wins/Losses: 2008 Gators = 13 and 1; 2013 Seminoles = 14 and 0.
Average margin of victory: 2008 Gators = 30.71; 2013 Seminoles = 39.5
Total points allowed (including post-season, to be fair to UF): 2008 Gators = 181; 2013 Seminoles = 170
Total Yards of Offense: 2008 Gators = 6230; 2013 Seminoles = 7644
Touchdowns: 2008 Gators = 70; 2013 Seminoles = 84
Players drafted by NFL following Championship: 2008 Gators = 3; 2013 Seminoles = 7
And so on . . .
Nobody is beating the 2001 The U
01Miami
08Florida
05Texas
11Bama
13 FSU
Where would you put the 2018-2019 Clemson team at in this list
Top 5 not below #5 maybe #3
1. Miami
2. 04 USC
3. 05 Texas
Texas literally had miracles go their way to beat USC that title game. If USC had won that it’d be 05 USC at 2 because regardless no team will ever be as amazing as that Miami Hurricanes team. Greatest team ever. Period.
As much as I am a Texas fan through and through, we wouldn’t have beaten that 2001 hurricanes team. Their the greatest team.
01 hurricanes would crush Tebow and crush Vince young and Texas what a joke to have the 01 hurricanes at 3
This is bullshit everybody knows 01 Canes was the best team ever we had the most draft picks better talented then any teams we supposed to won 3 championship in a row 00 01& 02
I like how they can go clear back to 98 but barely mention nebraska at all (2001). Your talking about one of the winningest programs in college football history.
That Vince Young Texas team was legendary. best college football game of ALL time.
ah-in-nist sipes 01 canes would easy stomp them out
I'm a Noles fan. But Miami 01 was the GOAT team. 2013 is a close 2nd though
Tennessee Titans 1 yard
Tennessee Titans oh well. That's one year We won 2 natties and 2 Heismans since then how did u guys do since then? I don't dwell in the past I don't have to go back 20 years to remember when we were last on top
Tennessee Titans and lose to teams like Vandy and Georgia State. Good luck against them this year
Appalachian Country Ohio State has more titles than Tennessee
I was about to guess that the top 3 was all the hurricanes, but apparently I’m wrong. I’d say the 87 Hurricanes and 01 Hurricanes are some insanely good teams. Just watch 30 for 30 the U ESPN.
As an Alabama fan Miami beat Ohio state fair and square
No they didn't. There were so many blown calls that should have went Ohio States way in the 4th quarter of that game. Should have ended in regulation. Miami got punched in the mouth all night.
#1. 01 canes, #2. 99 noles, #3. 08 gators, #4 2013 noles
Those top two teams couldn't stand on the same field with our 01 Hurricanes, this has to be a joke ESPN.
That U team world crush that Vince Young Texas team
2001 UM bench could beat Texas and Florida. Miami had Sean Taylor, Willis Maghee, kellen Winslow . on the freakin' bench!
I think they have a solid case for #2 especially with how they totally mowed through the last part of their schedule which was also the hardest part.
The only one they got right was texas.
Miami has players like Frank Gore being a backup
Brendan Owens he was 3rd string 😩😂
Sean Taylor was a freshman too
I'd like to see Cam Newton's team vs Vince Young's team.
98 vols are definitely underrated on this given the amount of future pro bowlers on that line up.
It's like they waited until 2018 to make this list so they wouldn't have to include any of the Nebraska teams.
lol because Nebraska fans would try to claim the whole list
#1 Texas Vs USC (06 National) & #2 Miami vs OSU (2002 national) is the TOP 2 greatest national championship games of all time
this is a lazy list.. they took point deferential throughout the season and 2005 Texas had the largest difference.
I'm a gator fan til I die and I agree with is being number 2....but that 2001 hurricane team was the greatest team of all time
I agree Gator meat All day but 01 Miami just whole lot better
‘01Hurricanes
‘13 Seminoles
‘08 Gators
You forgot the highlights from the 2017 UCF Knights championship game
The 2001 Hurricanes are the greatest college football team of all time. Sorry but thy are. That team was loaded with so much talent it was literally unreal. I doubt we'll ever see a team like that again...
01 Hurricanes could’ve beat some nfl teams lol
you are foolish if you really believe this lol
sabian thomas We had like 18 NFL players on that team
Conorcane 12 once again, you are FOOLISH if you think a college team can beat a PROFESSIONAL football twam
Conorcane 12 did everyone on that team go to the NFL? No? Alright then case closed
Oh yeah and just throwing this out there, but the 95 cornhuskers has 27 play in the NFL
1. Miami 01
2. BAMA 09
3. BAMA 11
4. BAMA 15
5. BAMA 12
How the 14 buckeyes aren’t any higher is insane. They won with a backup all year then won the natty with A THIRD STRING QB!
Edit: also now have the highest paid receiver and running back in the league on that team.
Glad to see Texas on here
The thing about '01 Miami is they had what very few if any teams had. They had playmakers on the offense that could score from anywhere but the defense with that secondary could do the same thing. Just an other universe type team.
Cant we appreciate each Team for its own merits and accomplishments.
Lets correct the list
1.)01 Miami
2.) 05 Texas
3.) 04 USC
04 USC was a better defensive team than 05 they would have beat 05 Texas a team that couldn't handle OU.
OU beat Texas 12-0 That 04 OU team was labeled the greatest team of all time until USC destroyed them. Heisman winner Jason White and Adrian Peterson as a monster freshman
did nothing.
2004 Auburn got snubbed. Cadillac and Ronnie Brown would've ran down SC's throat
So did you not see them get dominated by USC in 2003 at Auburn losing 24-0 lol
Cadillac and Brown -shut down
Darren McFadden and Felix Jones - shut down
USC 4-0 vs SEC under Pete Carroll
